The 13th annual international gender census, collecting information about the language we use to refer to ourselves and each other, is now open until 13th August 2026.
It’s short and easy, for most participants it takes 5 minutes or less.
After the survey is closed I’ll process the results and publish a spreadsheet of the data and a report summarising the main findings. Then anyone can use them for academic or business purposes, self-advocacy, tracking the popularity of language over time, and just feeling like we’re part of a huge and diverse community.
If you think you might have friends and followers who’d be interested, please do reblog this blog post, and share the survey URL by email or at AFK social groups or on other social networks. Every share is extremely helpful!
Survey URL: https://survey.gendercensus.com
The survey is open to anyone anywhere who speaks English and feels that the gender binary doesn’t fully describe their experience of themselves and their gender(s) or lack thereof.
So, I was snooping around (as I do. Its a habit I have that I havent shaken yet.)
And I read an oldish post about the gender wiki getting shut down and what one of the FANDOM staff said so I...in all my spiteful glory...coined the two terms mentioned. These terms may already exist so as such, if they do, consider these alt flags/alt definitions.
Murdergender!
A gender related to murder. Whether it be related to murder in general, related murdering gender itself, related to being a murderer or being murdered, etc.
Cheesecakegender!
A gender related to cheesecake! This gender may be related to the taste of cheesecake, the smell of cheesecake, the feel of cheesecake, or just general vibe. This gender may feel cold, creamy, smooth, a little sweet and a little savory!
[Image above says; All may use my terms. All may reblog (x2). Be aware OP is; endo critical, anti-radqueer. Do not put text (tags do not count, tags are fine) under reblog if part of my dni. Normal reblogging (ie, just putting tags) is fine.]
This is not me trying to persuade you to instantly quit/abandon Fandom, as I know there’s communities and friendships here, and requesting/suggesting that would be unreasonable. This is me warning you that they are queerphobic pieces of crap.
https://lgbt-pride.fandom.com/f/p/4400000000000095167 (this is just one example) (if you can’t access the link/it goes to a dead wiki, here are some screenshots)
Multiple of their staff team members seem to be conveniently ignoring their own ‘no transphobia or homophobia’ rules, and are in the process of (as far as I’m aware) deleting EVERY. SINGLE. LGBT+ WIKI, under the pathetic excuses of them being ‘duplicates’, or having ‘harmful content’, or whatever bullshit they like to spew.
They go ‘oh you have the perfectly good LGBT+ wiki WE made just go THERE dummies’, but they’re PERFECTLY AWARE that that wiki only allows ‘well-known’ or ‘popular’ genders, as well as generally having extremely strict rules. They don’t care about the queer community, and we need to stop pretending they do.
Be angry. Be pissed. Be sad, be hurt. But DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, go attack no berate them. They’ll write you off as an emotional woke teenager, and using your own personal experiences don’t fking matter to them; I see a lot of ppl do that, and I’ not insulting them in any way, but Fandom really doesn’t care when you go ‘oh no but MY gender isn’t ‘normal’ what about me don’t you relate to me’. No. They don’t. Your words do. Not. Matter. To. Them. It sucks, the world sucks, but we need to remember that some people are just full of shit.
If you have a small wiki/are working on one/hope to work on one, I’m begging you, DON’T USE FANDOM. Don’t support Fandom. Don’t support blatant queerphobes. Spread this post if you can, I beg of you. We can’t do much, but anything is better than nothing. Again, I don’t demand you instantly quit Fandom or anything, but do what you can. Try alternatives, if possible. I’m personally using Miraheze as where I’m moving my own wiki (The Invoker Trilogy wiki) to, and its coding style is pleasantly similar to Fandom’s — they even have a whole page on ‘so, you’re moving from Fandom’, lol!
I just wanted to get this out there. Don’t support Fandom.
The gender wiki is being closed down, for honestly bullshit reasons. (see this post for more information)
We have been actively working to remove problematic genders from the wiki, but Fandom has already decided to shut down the wiki entirely. We hope with enough pushback, we can change their mind on this.
This wiki has been active for almost a decade now, and not only is it a wonderful resource, it is also a safe place for many users who otherwise don’t have one. Myself included.
Please repost, and take whatever action you can to prevent this from happening.
An update to this: several other LGBTQ related wikis are being shut down, and they are getting worse and worse at hiding their transphobia. This time the supposed reason is that the content is overlapping with other wikis and they want everything on the LGBTQIA+ wiki, despite the majority of content on these wikis being closed down being microlabels and the LGBTQ wiki not allowing those. Also, there are other wikis out there that are much more duplicates of each other than these are.
This is, I quote exactly, what one of the fandom staff said:
“Just generally speaking... have you ever considered that... "thousands of identities" is part of a larger problem? Like as a gay man myself, I remember the era that I call the "Lady Gaga Born This Way" era of gay where the goal was to REMOVE labels and groupings. Instead, we've overcorrected somehow. Like the old Gender Wiki had a page for "Cheesecakegender" and for "Murdergender"... I think that's grotesque enough of a showing to beg the question... are any of those really necessary?”
It is also strictly against Fandom’s guidelines to be transphobic, by the way.
Again, please reblog, repost this on other platforms, get the information out there however you can.
The wiki they've "consolidated" to, the LGBTQIA+ Wiki, in addition to having a reputation for being very restrictive and unhelpful, has only 200 pages; combined, the Gender, Pronoun, & Orientation Wikis (not even counting others which are being shut down as well) had over 11,000 pages. The pages are NOT being moved to the LGBTQIA+ wiki. They're simply being deleted, forcing us to move elsewhere.
And for god's sake, we can label ourselves however the hell we want. Neither cheesecakegender nor murdergender were on the wiki in the first place, mind you (great research there, buddy) --- but even if they were, THEY WERE HURTING NO ONE.
I was supposed to be asleep 10 minutes ago but I just want to say this: FUCK FANDOM! IT WAS THE FIRST ONLINE COMMUNITY I WAS IN AND I'M LEAVING! I'M SO DONE. SHUTTING DOWN ALL THE LGBTQIA+ WIKIS EXCEPT FOR THE ONE THEY LIKE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY STUPID FOR THE PRONOUN WIKI BECAUSE YOU DON'T EVEN HAVE TO BE LGBTQIA+ TO USE DIFFERENT PRONOUNS THAN THE ONES THAT MATCH YOUR SIG! LIKE IT'S CONNECTED TO THE LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITY BUT IT'S NOT REALLY INHERENTLY LGBTQIA+. Anyways, goodnight. I'm gonna go to sleep. I made sure the pronoun wiki is safe and hopefully the others are being handled. Have a good day/night. Fuck fandom. <3
Fandom: we're gonna shut down this important lgbtqia+ resource :)
Fandom less than a month later: and these other lgbtqia+ wikis besides the main one that only hosts more common labels too for a completely unrelated reason :)
Like I wanna give people the benefit of the doubt but it feels like they were trying to look for a reason to shut us down.
Edited to add: Since a lot of people are reblogging this original post, I'm adding the updated version I did that incorporates the intersex circle...
I know intersex people are still getting excluded in a lot of LGBTQIA+ spaces (let alone wider society) and I think it's crucial to show this group is included in the statement that we all deserve equal rights.
Since the gender wiki closed on fandom and it was sad for many users I agreed then to share their final words about the wiki about a day before it closed. (The gender wiki still exists but on a different host, wiki oasis, but it was still sad to see it go)
Gonna put this under a read more cuz there's a lot

Hurricanekat63:
This place not only lifted my spirits, but helped me discover who I was. I now don't have to stumble when asked my pronouns, or question myself if what I am is even valid. This wiki taught me what should be taught in schools. No matter what you identify as, what you feel like, you are part of the community. This wiki made a rainbow mark on my life. Thank you.

DearKokoronomy (discussions mod):
You live and learn, and maybe end up with Sonic The Hedgehog being your online dad.
Boundaries and safety are important and I think we fostered those discussions well even the more dark ones.

HelenDaMelon (admin):
I'm not exaggerating in the slightest when I say that this wiki, and especially this community.
have saved my life. I attribute all the confidence I have in my identity ot this wiki; I would never have understood myself without the help of the resource and more importantly the people here. We may not be on Fandom anymore, and it may take some getting used to, but we will adapt. It's not the end.
And finally me (admin and bureaucrat):
This wiki has been like my home on the internet for 3 years. The wiki and its community have been there for me and I've been there for them. I'm glad I got to help out as an admin. Thank you to all the wonderful people I met
Archive Team has completed its Wikibot scrape of all the webpages and images on Gender Wiki.
The end result is surprisingly small: only 1.3 GB! You can download it here: https://archive.org/details/wiki-gender.fandom.com-20260401
That 1.3 GB archive includes the images on Gender Wiki. If you just want the text contents, you can download the database dumps, which are even smaller. The full database including edit history is a tiny 12.4 MB. The database that includes only current pages is an even tinier 5.7 MB. Comments and discussions on the Fandom wiki are not included in the database dumps.
A minor note: updates to the wiki made within the last few days might not be preserved in these archives.
In a reply to the original announcement, a member of Fandom staff informed us that Fandom's decision was final, and the Gender Wiki will be closed on April 13. We will no longer be making an effort to change their mind, because clearly it will fall on deaf ears; Fandom still refuses to give us any real answers (such as to why Gender Wiki staff wasn't consulted before this decision).
However, we will not disappear. The wiki is being archived by WikiBot and should appear on this site within 24 hours, thanks to help from ArchiveTeam. Additionally, I'm working with a few users on a possible project that will organize a public "archive" on Tumblr, in which anyone can post all the information about a given gender and tag it, so the information is not lost and is kept accessible.
The Gender Wiki staff is also currently in conversations about moving the wiki to a public and editable site again. At this point it is most likely that we will move to another site (though we have now been turned down by Miraheze), and continue from there. After this experience, our ultimate goal may be self-hosting, but this is still a little farther out than two weeks, as we lack experience with self-hosting and that advanced level of coding. (Experienced advice is welcome.)
I'd like to thank everyone, a thousand times, for all the things you've said, in reblogs to my original post or in signatures on the petition. It makes me so incredibly happy to know that our work on the Gender Wiki has positively affected so many people --- because that was /always/ the goal.
Please, please do not harass any particular people about this, even the user who posted the notice on the Gender Wiki. You can make posts targeted at Fandom as a whole, but don't target or harass any person.
So, on April 13, the Gender Wiki as we know it will be no more. But it will NOT be lost forever. We will NOT disappear. We will be coming back, and we hope to see you all there. I'll continue to post updates as things become clearer and plans are put in action.
