I watched the Greatest Showman for the first time (I had heard many of the songs before, and had even sung some, like A Million Dreams and Never Enough but I only just watched the film in it’s entirety) and I was blown away.
Every single frame was important and every single voice was beautiful and every single instrumental section (or silence!) was exquisite. All the songs were even more powerful in context, and I already loved Hugh because of Les Mis, but it was an experience to see him playing another character, one with hope (and—spoilers for Les Mis—one that doesn’t die in the end haha).
When Philip ran into the fire, I really thought it was going to make me angry but he survived and it was beautiful.
And (I’ve got to say it again, sorry 🤷♀️) the music and the voices and the orchestra and the story and the themes…
When I watched the start of it years ago, why was younger me struggling to engage with it? Today, throughout, I could not stop smiling and I wanted to sing along the entire time but I didn’t want to disturb my housemates, and Come Alive made me want to dance…
