ok but like shout out to all my girls with skin conditions like eczema or acne or keratosis pilaris, etc. society paints such a false picture of women as having perfectly clear and soft skin and like….that ain’t true. so many of us have bumps and scars and dryness and redness and no matter what we do it won’t go away. but yall are perfect okay like believe me i still don’t love my skin but its so Wrong that we hate ourselves so much for something so trivial. you’re beautiful okay and so is your skin i love u.
me to other people: ur self-worth should not be defined by ur grades!
me to myself: if u don’t get a 107 on this assignment ur dead to me
Can’t see yourself waking up at 6 am every morning? That’s okay, start at 8 or 9 or 10 or 11 if you need to. Can’t cook a proper meal yet? That’s fine, start by just boiling some pasta, or making some rice, or baking a cake from boxed cake mix. Don’t see yourself going for a run or doing yoga any time soon? Just aim to take a few extra steps and stretch during commercial breaks while watching TV. Every little step counts, you’re doing great.
8 of my favorite youtube channels for studying
these are just the people i personally watch, so please feel free to add some if you have more!
1. John Fish. John is a computer science student at Harvard that mostly makes videos on how he studies and stays productive. He’s a very smart guy, is interesting to watch, and seems to have studying down to a science!
2. The School of Life. The School of Life makes all kinds of videos on a wide array of topics such as psychology, neuroscience, philosophy, history, etc.! A lot of my professors recommend to watch their videos while we study.
3. Studyign. I’m sure we’re all subscribed to her, but it’s not a complete list of the best youtube channels without adding her in. Sareena has all kinds of videos on study tips, how to’s, etc.!
4. Hannah Like Science. Hannah is a freshman at Dartmouth and makes videos mostly on college applications advice. If you’re co 2019 definitely check her out! Her older videos have more to do with science, so if you enjoy curiosity-style videos, check her out.
5. Ted Talks. There are hundreds of Ted Talks out there on how to increase productivity, if you haven’t seen any yet definitely watch them! some have changed my life.
6. Crash Course. I’m sure you’ve seen one of these before, but Crash Course saved me when I took AP Psych. Teachers love to show them in class, but even if they don’t, watch them in your own time! You’ll learn a lot, I promise.
7. Flipping Physics. If you are taking physics, I guarantee this guy has a video for any topic you’ll learn. He’s a teacher, so he explains things in a way to engage students and help them understand.
8. Khan Academy. I used Khan Academy throughout high school to help me study for math tests. Their videos helped me a lot, especially in calculus! However, there are videos explaining a wide variety of topics.
again, these are just the ones I watch on a regular basis, i know there are hundreds of other studyblr youtube channels that I didn’t mention, so please reply with some that you guys love (i’ll check em out!).
thanks for reading! x
tips on how to manage your time for school
managing my time is something I struggle with but I’m trying to work on it with these tips so I’d thought I share them with you guys.
tip 1: do the easiest subjects first
I know a lot of study posts say to thr harder subjects first because you will burn energy on the simple things but it’s actually the opposite
I’ve done this before and I just end up finding myself exhausted from spending the whole day on one assignment and not even finishing! At that point I’m not even going to bother looking at my other assignments so I basically spent the whole day working but yet didn’t get much done.
tip 2: put your phone away
I know this is a common tip but it’s something that I and I bet a bunch of other students have problems with. I’m not addicted to my phone but I do often find myself procrastinating on youtube when I should be studying for psych lol.
I have seen people use the app forest but that doesn’t work for me so what I do is put my phone in another room so that way I’m not even tempted to look at it
tip 3: plan
if you have a test coming up plan about three to four days to study or even more depending on how big the test is.
tip 4: don’t cram
it’s not healthy. trying to fit all that information in your head will just burn you out. it won’t be needed if you plan :)
tip 5: don’t pull all nighters
I’m really guilty of this sjsjs but I’m trying to stop. you have to make sure you get enough sleep which is about 8 to 9 hours to function properly. if you come to school tired then you’ll perform poorly.
tip 6: remember to take breaks
this is another thing I really need to work on. do not study/do homework for hours on end. you will become exhausted (trust me) and end up not being motivated to do anymore work (trust me pt.2).
I do this all the time and I’m trying to stop because it’s not healthy and I’ve finally realized that. I become extremely exhausted and unmotivated.
This leads to me not taking care of myself which isn’t worth it in the end.
after working for 30 minutes to an hour take a 5-10 minute break and then resume working. that way you can do your work and have free time. just remember to not take advantage of your break and end up procrastinating.
I hope these tips help you guys with school and help me as well haha :)
To everyone who's starting school tomorrow
□It’s gonna be okay, you got this. □Ask questions, raise your hand, speak up. □You can stumble or fail and that’s okay. □Your grades don’t define you or your value. □Learn as much as possible because knowledge really is power. □Take care of yourself, eat, sleep!!! □Sometimes you just have to take a break and that’s acceptable and important. □Don’t quit your hobby and don’t give up on your passion. □Keep your eyes on your goals. □ Good luck!!!
short, sweet, & to the point back to school tips
An anon recently asked for some back to school tips, so I thought I’d give a few for both high school and college.
For high school & college:
Need new stuff? Have you checked your backpack? Is it falling apart? Make sure your most basic needs are covered.
Be certain you have the right supplies for each class, such as a folder and a notebook for each.
Of course, make sure you have pencils, pens, paperclips, tape, post-it’s, index cards, and anything else you might need.
Prepare your workspace! Clean out your desk and make sure everything has a designated space. Clear away clutter. A cluttered desk makes for a cluttered mind.
Freshen your wardrobe! If you have the extra cash, use some to buy yourself new clothes and shoes. It’ll definitely get you in the back-to-school spirit.
Did you do your work for over the summer? Please do not wait until the last week/day/night to do this. Try to enjoy the rest of your break!
Do you have a reading list for the upcoming year/semester? If so and if you have the time, get a head start on your reading before you start getting busy.
Get a planner or a bullet journal! Set it up and fill out as much as you can: important dates, big projects, etc.
When picking a seat on the first day, sit at the front of the classroom. You’ll be free from distractions, be able to hear & see better, and more likely than not your questions will be answered.
Start organized, stay organized. Keep all your handouts in separate folders or binders. Use a color coded system: match your folder/binder to your notebook for a particular class.
Get on a good sleep schedule. Gradually start going to bed earlier and waking up earlier. It takes two weeks to establish a new sleep schedule.
For college:
Make sure you have everything you need to furnish your dorm or apartment!
Stock up on some healthy study snacks.
Look at a map of your campus and learn the routes you will have to take to get to your classes. You don’t want to be late on the first day!
Get your books early to err on the side of caution. Professors are very unsympathetic to, “I didn’t do my reading because I didn’t have the book.” Figure out how much you’ll use your books and/or if you can effectively share, and sell your books back as soon as you can.
Best of luck to everyone as you get ready to head back to school!
[4/11/18] Quiet morning catching up on work emails. I found a beautiful coffee shop in downtown Chicago!

Things to remember before starting the school year:
These might not work for everyone but they’re worth a shot.
· Always have a positive mindset. I know it can be hard sometimes but trust me, it’s worth it. I did this for my first year of university and it actually made a difference for me.
· Your grades don’t define you or how smart you are.
· Always give it your all, that’s what’s important.
· When things get too much take a break. Especially if you’re stressed. Spend some time with family & friends or simply do something you love.
· Don’t neglect yourself. Self care is highly important.
· Write everything that you need to do in a notebook or on your phone so that you don’t forget anything. ( Homework, exam & quiz dates, presentations, etc )
· Take notes in class and write them in your own way.
· Don’t let what people say get to you.
· Get enough sleep.
· Stay hydrated! I often forgot how important this was and it affected me at some point. Get yourself a water bottle and keep it with you at all times.
· If your school/university has a clinic that has a telephone number (mine does) make sure you add it on your phone. I never thought I’d need it but one day I did and thankfully it was there. Better to be safe than sorry.
· Remember to eat! When you’re free and even when you have short breaks between classes.
· Try making a few friends in each class. Always helps in the long run.
· Try joining a club? Not everyone’s cup of tea but explore what they have, you might like something!
· Don’t over study. It’s just going to make you tired.
· Don’t be afraid if you get lost or don’t know what to do. Many other people are in the same situation.
· Also, never be afraid to ask for help from others.
· Try to expand your friends group. Having many friends on campus can help you a lot!
· Don’t compare yourself to others. You aren’t them. You don’t have the same goals or ambitions. You do you. Always.
· Get to know your dean and advisors. They help A LOT when things get tough or hectic.
· Work hard from the first day.
· Make a schedule to make things easier.
· Professors are going to stress you out so damn much but remember the student before you could survive, and so can you.
· Don’t base your course choice on what people say. Pick a course YOU want to take. Don’t go for something because everyone says its easy and don’t avoid it because some people said it was hard.
· And lastly, the first week is bound to be a mess and that’s okay, because we’ve all gone through it (you should have seen me when I first joined university) everything will fix itself eventually.
Hope I could help you guys. I start my second year of university next month so I needed to remember all these :D
If you need any help at all feel free to send me an ask or comment on this post I’d be happy to help as much as I can! <3
