Re-Posho
Through long intervals, I’ve been stepping my way in and out of this blog. Summer has not been the way I planned it to be in the slightest. I thought I would finally be able to spend time practicing music production, art and tackle game development at ease; I even bought a new tablet and, uh, ᴬᵈᵒᵇᵉ ᶜʳᵉᵃᵗᶦᵛᵉ ᶜᶫᵒᵘᵈ.
Instead I got to help around my dad’s business, attended a few web development courses online and some well-needed math classes. By the end of each day I just wanted to sleep (just like a normal, responsible person I guess). It also didn’t help that I got a surgery and fell off a 2nd floor, nearing almost 2 months of recovery time altogether.
So, leaving depressing stuff aside, I exercised a lot and managed to go down 14 kgs.!
Oh and also I, uh... became 21. Hoo hee...
I’m finally old enough to drink around the world (not that it ever stopped me anyways).
I have to bring up a little about game development anyways. While trying my best to rush Pik & Pok back in March I equivocally lowered myself to use spaghetti code on the project which then lead to countless bugs, which meant spending more time just trying to fix mistakes. Then Uni partials got in the way and I had to prioritize, which meant I missed the game’s deadline.
After that, I have decided to lay down Pik & Pok’s development. It’s a project I’m quasi-passionate about but I don’t think it’ll work out. Retro-wannabe stuff isn’t as cool as before, and I’m afraid no one will care unless I put out something of bigger caliber first.
I feel pretty terrible about this, specially because I promised it would be ready and even a few friends spent some time covering it. My advice to any young content creator reading this: give yourself due dates but don’t tell anyone publicly unless it’s finished.
Pik & Pok will be finished one day but it’s not a priority at the moment.
Despite everything I said above, I still managed to participate in the GMC Jam #4. Where a ton of talented GameMaker developers got to show off to work on a lil’ game called Beyonder. You can read more about it here.
Other things I worked on: this Twitch layout that has chat integration so viewers can interact visually on the stream. I have a larger post about this, you can view it here.
Something else, while fiddling with my web development coursed I tried making a quick Pokédex tool for making living dexes but with some more options. It’s not finished yet and might talk more about it someday later.
I had some time to update DoodlyBot to its 2.0 version and now makes sexier line art thanks to a better vectoring code and has more personalized automated replies!
Besides just that, I added two new Twitter bots to the family! First off is LewdyBot which makes fully automated ᵖᵒʳᶰ and posts the censored versions on Twitter.
And a less greedy bot: PixlyBot that makes automatically-generated pixel art in both 8x8 and 16x16 resolutions! Have a look!
I am so proud of my boys.... (Just in case it’s not clear, these are parody/joke accounts; don’t take them seriously)
As a final note, I got accepted into the university of DigiPen-Europe in Bilbao, Spain.
I’m enrolled into the Bachelor in Computer Science and Real-Time Interactive Simulations (that’s the actual name, what’s wrong with you, Americans??).
I have a sane mix of excitement and nervousness, I’ll start classes this September but will move to Spain... today! I’m excited to learn more about development and surround myself with people with similar tastes (I just hope they’re not too weeb-ish).
This will be the first time I get to live on my own absolutely alone (as in, without relatives or life-long friends living in the area), and not only that, but I’ll live on the other side of the planet. So yeah, I’m a tad anxious about it.
But then again, I’m super happy about this opportunity and I’ll do my best to stand out! ....Which ironically means I have to tone down the time I spend on my personal projects, I really need to make things right. Maybe I’ll get to post casual drawings and participate in some game jams (which frankly, means it’ll all be the same as before), so... stay tuned?
That’s where I’ll end this. Thanks for reading another morbidly long post from me. I know a lot of people don’t read this, but I like having my own life journal. And it’s alright since it doubles as a portfolio, so it’s a win-win and only I win, no? .... yeah, whatever.
Wish me luck!
k bye
