“Yeah, fine, don’t trust me. I get it. Handsomer, more successful and friendly you shows up and becomes friends with your old team and you’re jealous over it. I get it, Harrison, I get it.”
“The rub of all this is, even if I told you I have nothing else to hide, you wouldn’t believe me because you don’t trust me. You can’t get to know me because you can’t trust a word I say so you’re just going to keep spitting in my coffee when I try to be friendly because I can’t be trusted. Spit in my coffee, break my spine, do whatever to me, but it won’t make me go home. Don’t have a home to go to anymore. Risked my life to get here and – you know what, you don’t deserve to know my reasons for being here.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t go out of my way to be friendly again. I don’t force my company on other people. I know I’m annoying. I know I’m a waste of space. I know I’m an idiot. But thanks for all the reminders. I’m sure they’ll stick this time. Oh, wait, I’m too much of a moron for that.”
Harrison watches HR walking away for a few seconds. The negative self-talk surprises him somewhat. He didn’t really think his trust in HR would matter so much to him in the first place. It’s almost purely superficial. He’s not even... very jealous HR’s here because their their differences in areas of expertise make Harrison quite a bit more valuable. Very simple. And he’s not just going to let the guy walk away misunderstanding to such an extent. (Not to mention he’d never hear the end of it from Cisco or Jesse.)
So. He follows swiftly behind HR and shoves him by the shoulder to stop him from going through the doorway and effectively trap him between himself and the desk behind him.
“Don’t do that,” Harrison says quietly, staring gravely at the other man from behind is his glasses. “I’m not jealous that you’re here and I don’t hate you. You are a moron, but you’re not entirely useless. There’s no denying you bring a different kind of... atmosphere around the team than I do. However, I am deeply concerned about what other dangers you might have brought with you -- intentionally or not. You almost got Cisco killed because... what? You were exposed as a fraud on your Earth? I sincerely doubt that’s a heavy enough crime to warrant you hopping through a breach to an entirely different dimension. You don’t have to tell me anything, but do not lie to me.”
He takes a deep breath and steps back a little, crosses his arms.
“If anything else you may be hiding puts this team in danger like that again, I will kill you,” he states this in a matter-of-fact tone, but it’s clear in his expression that while he would very much regret it... he won’t hesitate to do it. “Especially considering the fact that Jesse’s decided to stay here. That’s my daughter, HR. And besides that, this team is already fragile enough without having to face more betrayal. Iris could die. Caitlin could go off the rails. Cisco is... drifting. Wally’s untrained and too brave for his own good. And Barry will do anything to keep them safe -- especially Iris West -- and damn the consequences for everyone else. You’re not dumb enough not to see that. If you really want me to trust you, you’re going to have to do better by them.”
