1. Bash’s character arc as a queer man in the 80’s, involving him discovering/denying his sexuality, trying to cope with the passing of his closeted long-time best friend who dies of aids, him not admitting to himself that he loved said best friend in a romantic way, objecting in the middle of Rhonda’s green card wedding by telling her the lie that he’s secretly been in love with her for weeks and “has just had trouble sorting his emotions”, and then convincing the already desperate Rhonda to marry him instead, all clearly done as a big gesture for himself to believe he’s straight and keep being in denial about his sexuality and feelings for a man who he can now never confess to or have a romantic relationship with, nor can he grieve him properly because of said denial.

when are we gonna realize that these change dot org petitions are typically nothing more than performative activism that allows people who are unaffected (usually white people) to do the bare minimum and then pat ourselves on the back for being so involved and doing the right thing and standing up for people?

you know what’s meaningful and impactful especially during a time when it really isn’t smart or safe to gather to protest and riot? donating money directly to people/families and foundations that help people and sharing those resources instead of repeatedly sharing trauma porn and change dot org petitions that will most likely never make a difference.
