Hey so… I’m not really in the Percy Jackson fandom, but if there’s any overlap between y’all and the Project Hail Mary fandom, I have a consideration:

Something that I feel like we don’t talk enough about is how fundamentally human every single Avatar has been. Korra, Aang, Roku, Kiyoshi, Kuruk, Yangchen, they’re all just people who’ve been given the weight of the world and the power to hold it.

Like, Wan was just a guy who pissed some people off and then went on a wacky adventure because of it that lasted 10,000 years.

Thinking about the Day of Black Sun in Avatar the Last airbender and wondering how the geology of their world works if the eclipse is all encompassing enough to cover Omashu to the Fire Nation Capital.

Now on one hand I could do complex research on how that might actually be able to work out with the sizing of the world of avatar, but it’s much funnier to imagine the spirit aspect of things.

We know the moon spirit is an actual thing, so Agni the sun spirit is probably also a thing, so I’m imagine that every once in a while Tui and La dip into the spirit world, bother Agni for like 8 minutes and then leave.

I’ve seen a lot of Altean Lance fics and au’s where Lance is like, the “long lost prince” who for whatever reason doesn’t remember that after arriving on earth, or was never even secretly altean to begin with, but what if Lance wasn’t the long lost prince.

What if his dad was? What if Allura’s little brother was placed into the blue lion for protection and sent to earth in a cryo pod? What if he woke up, years before even Krolia came to Earth? What if he meets Lance’s mom and they fall in love and her family hides his origins by claiming they found him washed upon shore with no memory?

Imagine Lance is half altean, imagine all his siblings are also half Altean. Imagine Allura finding out that her brother lived, but believed she didn’t and made a family of his own? Her little brother, now as old as their father was when he sent them away, but she’s still the same?

Imagine the mindfuck that would be to Lance, who was always told the “story” of how his parents met, never realizing it was a lie to protect them all?

Imagine the chaos when his family learns that they’re all technically Alien royalty from a planet that was destroyed before human civilization was even really a thing.

Y’know what’s be fun? If every single Paladin, not just Pidge and Hunk, came back to earth significantly smarter without ever realizing it. I know they probably canonically did, but I mean:

Lance, Pidge, and Hunk are around a bunch of other humans on the atlas or at the garrison, and Punk breaks out into a super in depth conversation about shit that’s never come up on earth, so everyone, even the other scientists are like “wtf are they talking about???” Meanwhile Lance not only follows the conversation, but proceeds to explain what they’re saying to everyone else in simpler terms because he thinks it’s just a matter of Alien terms getting lost in translation, when really, he’s just learned this incredibly complex thing by hanging around Punk enough.

A scientist is explaining their findings to one of the commanders and Keith, walking by hears something not quite right and goes “actually that’s a common misconception. See-“ and then proceeds to explain thinking that it’s just a normal thing, because he heard Pidge complain to Matt about it once, but that thing’s actually never been discover on earth before and he just revealed ground breaking information never heard before like it was the full version of an old saying

One day someone notices something’s broken mid flight and they bring it to the head engineers (not Pidge and hunk because they’re busy) and it’s a really big problem. There’s no way to fix it without landing but they’re pretty far away from the next planet so everyone’s freaking out. A few minutes later, Shiro strolls in, sees the hologram of the broken thing and casually says, “oh! Don’t worry about that, I noticed blah blah blah and I fixed it right up. Should be good now!” He’s spent too much time helping Coran and Hunk around the castle to understand that they’re actually insane engineers and what he did was not only risky, but should’ve been impossible.

They were in the middle of a war and had to learn fast to survive, they just didn’t realize how much they were learning :)

Just fun little moments where they casually prove exactly why the lions chose them instead of anyone else. They’re some of the most resourceful and adaptable people in the universe!

Also sorry all the science-y stuff is so vague, I’m a writer for a reason I don’t know shit about science

Voltron’s on the brain so here’s another one:

It’s always pissed me off, the whole “Lance only got into fighter class because Keith dropped out” because unless the Garrison is actually a shit school (which can’t be true they’re literally sending people to space), they have standards. They didn’t just put names in a hat and randomly draw Lance, that’d be insane. He specifically was the one they bumped up, which implies a few things:

He was top of the Cargo class

The fighter class has a limited number of spots

Lance met the standards of the fighter class (he must have, because I can’t imagine they would’ve filled the spot with someone unqualified rather than just leaving it empty)

There were just enough people who scored higher than Lance that meant he didn’t have a spot

I’m not going to pretend I 100% understand how this kind of school works, but I can imagine that training people to send to space is very serious and they weren’t afraid of failing people if need be. Hell, Iverson basically said that when he introduced the damn “Lance is only in here because of Keith” thing in the first place.

But that in and of itself also implies that they couldn’t fail Lance! He may not have been doing great in the simulators, but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t doing well in every other aspect, well enough that dropping him wouldn’t have been okay.

My whole point is that Lance was qualified for fighter regardless of the Keith thing, there just wasn’t enough room in the program.

And I bring this up because it’s really common in the fandom and in fics to use this as fuel for Lance’s insecurities, usually followed up with some character vaguely being like “no, Lance you worked hard to get into fighter class” and that’s it. Never more specific than that, never actually convincing that he deserved it, and personally I think he deserves better.

I can’t believe I’m writing this, but:

Voltron au where, back at the Garrison Lance and Keith never came into contact. They always had different classes, they somehow always left and entered rooms staggered just enough to never come into contact. They don’t know what the other looks like, but they know each other’s names because Everyone is always comparing them.

It’s the strangest thing. Lance isn’t even in the fighter class, yet every time he gets the top score of the cargo simulators someone is comparing him to Keith motherfucking Kogane. You’d think they’d reserve that treatment for the top 2nd fighter pilot, but nope! It’s always him. Every test score, every combat class, someone always compares him and the worst part? He doesn’t even know who this fucking kid IS! He’s never seen him and if it weren’t for the fact that he could see his name at the top of the fighter class rankings, he would think this was just an elaborate prank that everyone was in on to mess with him!

Keith, on the other hand, is constantly compared to Lance, but not in classes. No, for some reason every botched interaction he has, student or teacher, someone compares him to Lance motherfucking McClain. Apparently, Lance is really good with people. Everyone likes him. Everyone knows his name, even if they’ve never actually spoken to him, because he’s just got this socially magnetic energy to him. And for some reason everyone has it in their head that Keith should be just like him, and they’re all disappointed every time he’s not. Except, not everyone knows him, because for awhile Keith thinks that he’s some weird pop culture reference that he doesn’t understand until one day he catches his name at the top of the Cargo Class rankings. Keith has no idea who this kid is, but he thinks he hates him. When Lance was some fictional character that became an inside joke, he could deal with it, but he’s an actual real person?! Mf’s gotta die.

Basically, all this is to say that when they break out Shiro together there’s no time for introductions until the next day with Shiro and they have a moment where they both angrily point and shout “YOU!”

Thus is born a rivalry, but neither of them is competing for the same thing so they both think they’re constantly failing while the other is winning.

Hey y’all, are there any fics where James Potter or Lily Evans Potter are parcelmouths? Like, a fic where, at the end of his second year, Harry is told that his parceltongue comes from Riddle, but then third year comes around and someone, either Lupin or one of Lily’s surviving friends takes the time to be like “yeah they didn’t really tell anyone, but I want you to know you got that from your mom/dad.”

Because like?

Think about little Harry, worrying after that conversation about how much of him is really just the guy who killed his parents? Who is his temper from? Is this why the hat said Slytherin? If he gained a whole language from Riddle, what else did he get?

And then third year roles around and he learns that the language was his.

He learns from Lupin that his dad shared that ability with him when he found out he was a Werewolf. That he had to hide a part of his culture (Indian!Potters, come on now) because these fuckass white wizards made it seem evil, when really it was just another thing. That he was really saying, Remus you’re not a monster even if that’s what they call you.

He learns from Lily’s friend (not Snape I stg) that she didn’t even know until she passed a portrait with a little snake in it. That she neither hid nor flaunted it until she started hearing hisses from certain pure blooded students who had always been known to look down on people like her. Most people didn’t know how, but no Death Eater ever got past her until one did.

And this then opens the door to more. He got his temper from his mother. The gleam of mischief in his eyes was all his dad. His quick wit came from both of them, but his proficiency in DADA was all him.

Because like, Dick was absolutely going to kill the guy responsible for his parents death and had Bruce there to stop him and teach him something better, but Peter?

Peter didn’t have anyone to stop him. In half the universes I’ve seen him in, he does go through with it, and ultimately regrets it, and I think that’d be really interesting for people to explore.

Because, like. Robin was the first child superhero in DC, and Spider-Man was the first in Marvel, but no one really knew he was a child.

I just think it would go crazy for the bats to realize that Peter is like if Dick never had Bruce and had to figure shit out for himself.
