unpop opinion but some people actually do hate that baelor loved maekar, they hate that at the end of his life meakar was on baelor's mind. they also don't like that maekar isn't a one dimensional, black and white person, and that he didn't mean to kill baelor, and that he absolutely loved baelor. a lot of people try to come up with these ideas that baelor is morally good and maekar isn't and the reality is that not only are they both complex, but their love and attachment to one another is something that no amount of fiction or headcanon can ignore or change.
they would die for each other, they would kill for each other. bealor was there when maekar had no one, as it is implied that he and his mother were not close. he was there when maekar breathed his first breath. when dyanna died, baelor clearly stepped in to help. baelor is happy around maekar, maekar's presence makes him happy, he enjoys fighting with him, he smiles when maekar gets annoyed, in his own way he tries to rage bait maekar. they parent their children together, they speak for one another, they are there for each other.
and in a world where media literacy has failed us, especially looking at a character like maekar who is very very morally complex, it annoys people that the character they have tossed into a very good two shoes, white washed role, loves maekar. it annoys them that baelor and maekar get along because in spaces now where analytical thinging and characterc complexities are non-existent, baelor is supposed to hate maekar. baelor is supposed to cast maekar aside for what aerion did to dunk, he's supposed to blindly support dunk while hating maekar and trying to kill maekar. because maekar is bad, and evil.
but that's not the case. even during the trial of the 7, bealor wasn't trying to kill maekar. and even AFTER the battle, it was baelor who instructed that his maestar see Maekar before anyone else, and as he died, the last thing he thought about was Maekar.
perhaps, when Egg said, 'no', as Baelor was dying, Baelor was looking Egg's direction because Egg looked like a baby Maekar, and the final thing he was thinking, and the last thing he wanted to see was his baby brother.
and when Baelor died, he took Maekar's smile. He took the warmth from Maekar. The last time we see Maekar around any lights, fire, etc., is when he is looking upon the smoke on Baelor's pyre.
So these two have a connection that makes people uncomfortable, but it is a connection that nothing, not even loyalty can break.
like i had seen someone say something along the lines of 'maekar/ no one deserved baelor', implying that maekar and his children took baelor for granted or didnt deserve him
but the fact is that, maekar and baelor deserved each other. what they didn't deserve was being thrust into a family and an abusive dynasty that even, when they had one of the healthiest relationships, pit them against each other. but no one deserved them more than the other deserved the other. they were always on the other's mind and on their heart.
and god baelor is FARR more complex than many of you make him out to be. he also deserves fans who can read him as nuanced and not one dimensional
