Drabble
It had been as ordinary day as it could be in some strange new place. She had woken up, struggled out of bed and slammed back a fruit smoothie. gulped down the sweet fruit mixture and went back to her room.
braced herself to see if the berry mixture would settle well on her stomach or her ulcers might be backed up again.
She had worked on her art, hands listless as she sketched and scribbled. She was taking commissions now, as a means to make money. With no clue how long she might be here.. she needed to stockpile. Needed to be ready for anything that might happen. Needed to buy meds for her ulcers, needed to ensure she was as independent as possible from anyone else.
Such a horse thing.
And the next she knew, things were happening, she was out of the apartment and following the crowd.
and now, here she was.
Rin stared around the overrun Domain of Midney. It was a once beautiful place and Rin felt that perhaps Yuki would have adored such an area. But more importantly for her purposes, it was a peaceful place.
Rin wasn't built for fighting, for darting hither and yon to find some form of reward that might as well mean jack to her. She was a normal woman, with normal needs. No matter the reward she held no power to be returned to her, so why bother trying?
Instead, she focused on cleaning this little place up. To keep her hands and feet busy and to rest well. Working hard on something new like this helped Rin feel a little more at peace with herself. Watching the weeds being tamed and trash being cast aside.
Was this a part of how Yuki felt when he worked with his hands?
She paused and held a dandelion between her fingers, making a tiny face as she sniffed at the bitter juices.
Did she think, that by some chance of working to repair this garden she could repair herself?
That with every dead head snipped, that with every glass blade trimmed. That would every spent weapon set to the side to use later if need be some part of her broken self was being corrected?
That by fixing this, she could undo the mistakes of the past?
She honestly didn't know.
What Rin did know here and now, that keeping busy and steady was the best thing that she could do.
Despite everything, she was.. bored. Lonely. The silence unnerved her beyond anything else. Even her room mates snoring would be a welcome add on to her grunts as she worked about.
"I know this is crazy. Haru, if you could see me here now.. you'd laugh and laugh. To see me here. Grubbing about in soil and filth to try and pass the time.
"To pass the silence she began to converse aloud. Picturing Haru. picturing Ayame. or really any member of her family to cover up the empty lonely feeling she bore here.
"Yes Aya, i know i know.. i need to take care of my hands, don't i? mustn't allow them to become too rough and calloused.."
She thought of Hatori and sighed. He would be urging her on one break after another, cautioning her not to tax herself beyond repair. After all, there were no reliable doctors to entrust the fact she turned into a horse around.
At long last, she hauled herself into the shade and rustled around in her knapsack. It had been a long enough morning that Rin felt she could afford her own lunch break, small though it might be.
A bottle of water and tasty jerky.joy.She tore the rough meat away from the main body of it, making a face. Rin knew this shit wasn't the best for her with it's salt content. But really at this point she felt like she didn't have much of a choice. Rin didn't want to risk building a fire and drawing the unsavory lot.
Even with the stock pile of pole arms she had found.. she wasn't in near any shape to defend herself. It was a loathsome fact of life; beyond any she had control of.The most she could do was spear a person or two before her weakened body might give out on her and she'd be over run by who knew what. So, Rin sat and stared across the garden, lips pressed into a thin line. Perhaps a bit of singing might do to pass the time?
Let's go in the garden You'll find something waiting Right there where you left it lying upside down When you finally find it, you'll see how it's faded The underside is lighter when you turn it around
She wondered..what was waiting for her at home? Haru, could he wait for her to return? was he safe from...from...and that brought the blinding headache. She knew, knew there was a danger at home, but every time she sought to dig into her memory.. the longer she worked at it.. thee worse it hurt!!
Everything stays right where you left it Everything stays But it still changes Ever so slightly, daily and nightly In little ways, when everything stays
What changes awaited her at home? Was Shigure still writing, was Hatori still smoking. Did anyone even notice she was gone? It was.. painful to think of time passing while she was gone. Go down to the ocean
The crystal tide is rising The waters' gotten higher as the shore washes out Keep your eyes wide open

Go down to the ocean The crystal tide is rising The waters' gotten higher as the shore washes out Keep your eyes wide open, even when the sun is blazin' The moon controls the tide, it can cause you to drown
Drowning, pulled under. The water clinging to her hair and to her thighs. Wouldn't that be a poetic end to a fool of a horse? to float eternal under the waves, crashing into the rocks.
if she died here.. what happened? would her body be returned home? or would she wake up once more?
