What's it like being on the road? The Howl reveal all.

Leaving Chicago always seems to feel like you are swimming against a current. There’s some sort of elastic force that keeps you within city limits. As we drove sleepily and steadily towards Montreal, you can feel the tension break at the Illinois/Indiana border, the infinity ahead of you with home in your hindsight.

Premiere: The Howl - 'Sputter'

Chicago has always boasted an incredible punk scene.

Years may pass, but the Windy City will always produce the goods, always throw up something unexpected.

The Howl hail from Chicago, and possess arena filling riffs but a steadfastly independent stance. Spending the bulk of 2014 on the road, the band have added some real muscle to their blend of punk riffing etched with math rock.

With a new EP forthcoming, The Howl have handed new cut ‘Sputter’ to Clash. Accompanied by a pleasingly lo-fi video, the track is an anthemic return – all scorched vocals and fuzzed up guitar, you can tune in below.

"Sputter" on The Deli Chicago

The Howl have released a new single called "Sputter". The track is energetic and pure rock for all 2 minutes and 45 seconds.

The third band of the night, The Howl, came all the way from Chicago and had the growing crowd bouncing and grooving with some excellent garage/punk rock. These guys are a really talented group as each member sang parts of songs and they had a presence about them that I can’t quite put my finger on but there’s something special with these guys and are worth checking out.

We want to say thanks for Pancakes and Whiskey for the kind words. And also thanks to CBGB Fest, Trash Bar, Honey Wild, Bridges & Powerlines, J and the 9s, and STRNGRS for making Friday night awesome.

Among the other bands on the festival roster are Mother Feather, Rocket and the Ghost, The Soft White Sixties, Electric Six, Mind Over Time, Scale Model, [T]he Howl, Lily and the Parlour Tricks, and Wake the Sun.

The Howl – “Jejune” music video premiere - Alternative Press

Chicago grunge punks The Howl jam soulfully in a warehouse in their new music video for “Jejune”—a gloomy, yet urgent number, rocking in the realm of Rise Against and Gaslight Anthem with an emo twist. “The song is about adopting a naive state of mind in hope of a happier future,” says vocalist/guitarist Sam Porter.

Diving deeper into the track, Porter adds, “I’ve put up my guard, because of the times I’ve been hurt in the past, and it keeps me from experiencing new things. If I could go back to a simpler state of mind, before I was ever burned by anything at all, embracing new things, new people and new ideas would seem much simpler. I get stuck in my ways and become a curmudgeon (something I’m trying to change). It's for letting go, and embracing the blissful ignorance for a brighter future.”
