Just a thought for those who don't care that Dump is trying to cut Medicaid ...
In July of 2013, our family was normal. I was happily married and all was well. In August of 2013, my husband could no longer read. An MRI revealed a malignant tumor in the speech and language area of his brain.
Every year, we had sat down and read through the "insurance" offered him at his work. I was self-employed and could not afford insurance. Every year, we looked carefully at what the "insurance" would pay for vs. what we would be paying in premiums.
That "insurance" would not pay for anything. It was "junk insurance ..." the same thing Dump is for that takes people's money but pays very, very little of your average hospital or doctor bill. Every year we concluded we were better off not paying for that "insurance."
The bill for an emergency brain surgery??? $100,000. How did we avoid going bankrupt??
Even though we technically were not poor people, we were for the six-month period in which my husband had brain surgery. Kind people at the hospital realized this and helped us apply for Medicaid, which covered that bill. Without that, we might have been out in the street.
Medicaid isn't just for lazy grifters who don't want to work. Medicaid is what pays for your gramma to live in the nursing home when she turns 97 and has long since outlived every single penny she was ever able to save. Medicaid helps YOU when you have a catastrophic medical emergency like we did.
And Medicaid is what Dumpy is trying to cut, and holding SNAP over people's heads unless we let him do it.
I wouldn't support that if I were you. My husband was a staunch gun-totin', Fox News-watching, Rush Limbaugh-lovin' Republican, COMPLETELY opposed to "making people dependent on government" and "lazy people who don't want to work" and "trading votes for free handouts."
When brain cancer struck and he needed the help, HE TOOK IT. Chances are, you would, too.
Don't you want that available when YOU need it??? Or your Gramma???
MEDICAID. It's not just for "lazy" people.
