Several times on here I've seen the take "I know local theater is bad and cringey, but you have to support it anyway!" And while I understand what they're getting at, I'm always like, why do you assume it's going to be "bad" just because the artists are members of your own community? I just saw a local production of The Importance of Being Earnest and it was HILARIOUS. Everyone was DELIGHTFULLY funny and we thoroughly enjoyed it! There have been so many times I've been greatly moved by "amateur" or student art, and if you can't allow yourself to appreciate anything but "the Best" (and who decides what "the Best" is anyway? This production of "Earnest" was way funnier than the version that Judy Dench and Rupert Everett were in, as deservedly "famous" as they might be) then you are just being a joyless snob. There's beauty and talent all around you. And if that makes me "easy to please," then well... That means I'm pleased more often! And why should I want to apologize for that?

I know this might sound wrong but I’m kinda happy about AI art - don’t misunderstand me, I hate AI ”art” and don’t think it’s even deserves to be called that.

But! The whole fight against it is beautiful. People saying ”any art is better than AI art no matter how bad it is” is one of my favourite things. People who I have seen say ”I can’t even draw a stick figure” are now genuinely trying to make art. It’s clear they’re beginners and the art might not always be the best but the fact that they’re making it and enjoying it? And people within the art community supporting and encouraging it? I think that is beautiful. This is the most accepting I’ve seen the art community like.. ever! And just the fact that more people are making art is amazing for peoples mental health and just humanity in general!

Sorry I know you asked for encouragement to do it but I think it would be pretty unfair to report all of that persons works just because they're not youre taste, getting commissioned to write something then posting it on ao3 so other people can read it for free isnt really that big of a violation of tos

Incorrect.

Taking money to create fics is a major violation of the TOS. The fact that writers are not collecting money for their creations is a key part of the OTW’s legal defense strategy to protect us (AO3 writers) as falling under the aegis of Fair Use provisions under US copyright law.

That their fics are formulaic and boring is a personal pet peeve, and that their fics come up when I search my favorite tags is just what brought them to my attention.

Also, that you said this on anon rather than putting your name on it tells me you lack the courage of your own convictions.

If they're taking commissions for fic and saying so on those fics on AO3, they are very much breaking the TOS and absolutely should be reported for it.
