āKnowing doesnāt mean Iām going to not do it.ā
Casey snorts a little before he places the elder back down on the ground, however his arms donāt leave him. Leaning down then to rest his chin on top of Jamesonās shoulder he hums softly.
āMissed me?ā
With a small huff of irritation, he glanced back at the much taller man. This fucker knew he did. Without him or Larkin around, it usually left the leader in a slump. Jameson obviously could get by and keep up his spirit without the two of them, but not for nearly as long.Ā
āI guess. Hopefully wonāt have to send you back out there for again for a while.ā
He's quiet as he's walking up behind Jameson, footsteps surprisingly light compared to how tall he was. He takes it slow until he's close enough to wrap his arms around the man's waist, pulling him close before lifting him off the floor.
Jamesonās natural instincts arenāt exactly bestĀ to mess with, now that he was a leader with a target practically painted on his forehead. So, as heās lifted up off the floor, the slightly older manās eyes widen. His own hands grip the strangerās wrists and begin to try to pry them off him, until he realizes just who mightāve been the one initiating contact in the first place.
āWhat the-- fuck, shit... Casey, you know better than to do shit like this.ā
God damn, he really needed to chill out.
Jameson wasnāt usually a person who let otherās words get to him. The only opinions he cared about were from the people he himself cared about, and just -- fuck, this had been a moderately big blow.Ā
Larkin was pulling away from him, and he didnāt get why. She really hadnāt been talking to him much in general, which was... well, it was weirdĀ for them. They didnāt see each other too terribly much outside of these events, but they usually talked often enough. Things had been quiet lately, and she told him that she needed space from him.
Vaguely, he wondered if her little boy toy had anything to do with this.
With a small growl of irritation, he downed the rest of his glass of whiskey. Someone sat beside him, and he side-eyed them. Ā Looking at them for a long moment, he realized he definitely recognized them.
āOh-- you.ā

PROLOGUE
you play halo from day one, as not even a teenager. you play it with your friends, your sisters, and even make more friends through it. itās a serious shock when you find out that people are able to play it competitively. you grin, and want nothing more than to be able to do that.
you round up some of your real life and online friends to conjure up a viable team. you all do your best over the years to rise up the ranks.
CHAPTER I
youāre up there. youāre not the best, but boy are you regarded with high praise. āthe insurrectionistsā feel unbeatable. you make a new friend in your free time, a young woman named larkin. sheās damn well nearly better than you are, and you offer her a spot on your team.
she declines, and makes the vague mention of another group. while youāre disappointed, you still wish her the best. you stay friends, but contact strains.
you see her in person for the first time, facing off against her and her team from āproject freelancer.ā
CHAPTER II
the rivalry becomes a little more. while youāre generally a good sport, you want to impress larkin. you want to make her envious, and perhaps even regret not coming over to your team.Ā
EPILOGUE
you and the girl you pine after remain on good terms, though you and her teammates definitely donāt see eye to eye. youāre not sure whether you truly dislike them, or whether youāre just playing up the rivalry, but boy does the anger sometimes feelĀ real. you arenāt an angry guy by any means, but sometimes -- sometimes those guys just push you.
youāre starting to get irritated with a certain member of their team, as well...

Jake swallows thickly, this was getting away from him and fast. While the rolling back of fallacies seemed to work a bit, it provided new issues. Harder ones to overcome. Heās starting to feel like a piece of shit, the more and more they converse, and maybe he just needed more to drink to ignore that; or maybe it was a sign.Ā
Regardless, he was feeling guilty so with his last drink he cashes out,Ā āAnd take care of his tab too while youāre at it,ā he instructs the bar keep. The handshake is good, puts them on better footing he supposes. He should have tried being friendly. He was good at this, so why was he so bad at this? Was it the whole undercover thing?
He nods,Ā āYeah, Iām sorry I⦠look.ā A sigh passes through his lips.Ā āYouāre really, really attractive, and clearly out of my league. I think I got in my own head and convinced myself that you were making eyes at me, so I thought I had to come over and play the game Iāve had played on me before. It was a mistake, and I apologize. So Iām gonna get going, but I do hope I see you around⦠tomorrow night maybe? Iād like to actually take a chance to get to know you a little better.ā
Reading this guy was beginning to become all the harder Usually he could tell when shit was going down but right now? He really couldnāt tell whether this guy was being genuine or not. It was so strangeĀ
"Appreciate it,ā He told him when Nick ended up paying his tab Jameson supposed he couldnāt exactly say no to free drinks. Still, he definitely had to repress a snort of laughter when he was described as āout of his league.ā Oh, Casey would get a laugh outta that one, that was for sure. It was enough to stroke his pride just a bit though, and he shrugged his shoulders.
āYou were fine, man. Donāt beat yourself up about it. Rejectionās kinda typical around the bar scene, yāknow. Not Ā worth getting yourself all down about it,ā Jameson did try Ā to help, mainly because he did really bad for the guy. It mustāve been pretty embarrassing, if was actually being genuine with his attempts. It wouldnāt have been right of him to be a douche about it.Ā
āBut, uh -- weāll see.ā Iām not sure when Iāll be back here tomorrow, because of the stuff Iām doing. If we see each other, we see each other. If not, donāt take it personally, all right?ā He reached out one of his large hands and pat it down on Nickās shoulder before offering him a small smile.

agentofthenorth:
Jake flushes red almost instantly.Ā āOh God,ā he mutters, nearly sputtering up his drink.Ā āI totally misread this situation.ā He laughs, awkwardly at that, before grabbing a napkin to pat his lips dry.Ā āIām sorry, I⦠to be honest I thought you were making eyes at me across the bar.ā He orders a new drink for himself, this time a whiskey like the other man was drinking.Ā
āI honestly donāt do this often, I know I said I did, but I was trying to-ā he cuts himself off, clearing his throat.Ā āLook, Iām bad at this, horribly bad. The last time I was at a bar in this city, a guy pulled that on me and it worked like a charm. I thought the same thing was happening so I tried⦠and failed mind you, to do the same.ā He checks the time again, it was getting close to the time he had to head back and get to bed.Ā āLet me get you another drink. Or food, have you eaten? I feel like I owe you a burger at the very least.ā
He offers the man his hand.Ā āItās Nick,ā he introduces.Ā āAnd I take it your name is Jameson? If I remember correctly?ā
Oh, that immediate admission of guilt was a hard one. Jameson wondered just how old this kid was, if he was that quick to take back when he was trying to portray. Either this guy was playing shit up hard, or he really needed a confidence booster. That suspicion was still there, especially as the stranger offered him another drink, or even some food. The older man just shook his head at both offers.
āIām all right, thanks,ā But puts his drink down to shake his hand, regardless of his words. With a small nod, Jameson confirms the otherās thoughts.Ā āYup, Jameson. Or Jay, occasionally.ā Nick, then. There were a lot of guys named Nick, but he didnāt quite look like any Nicks he knew. Perhaps he was just imagining things, getting a little paranoid from the red-eye flight that he and his team had been on earlier that day. Fuck, he needed to sleepĀ sometime soon, hopefully.
āFirst lesson in bar flirting, Iād suggest not lying. Itāll definitely get you into a shit load of trouble later on. Faking confidence is one thing, but speaking fallacies arenāt the greatest way of doing anything, Iām afraid.ā
Operation Trojan Horse
agentofthenorth:
The drinks arrive in a few moments and he pulls out his wallet to give the bartender his card as collateral. Heās careful, not to let the other see too much so he doesnāt get any ideas of what this is all about. The last thing he wants to do is cause a scene really. Unless that scene was making out with the enemy, because that sounds hot and this guy was even hotter.
āOh yeah, Iām the same,ā he admits.Ā āCompany sends me down once every few months to go through things, attend some conferences and stuff. Just routine, boring kind of things. But I do meet some interesting girls,ā he professes, taking a drink before smirking.Ā āAnd guys.ā
When the other looks around Jake takes a moment to check his watch, still early, so he was in the clear thus far.Ā āSorry, just have an early start tomorrow, donāt want to be up too late. You know?ā And like any good undercover agent, Jake had done his homework. Found a nearby conference that worked, and made up his mind on how he was going to sell himself. But he didnāt present the details, heād wait for them to be asked if they did at all. He offers a yawn,Ā āI should get going soon anyhow. Can I give you my number?ā he asks.Ā āOr would my room number be easier. If Iām being forward, I apologize. But this typically works in hotel bars.ā
Jameson found himself a little surprised by just how brief this was being. Usually, things like this lasted a little longer, with more pursuant past just getting a drink bought for him and a couple minutes of conversation. Usually it was him trying to make a sharp getaway. With what the other was suggesting, though, a few giggles bubbled out of him.
Forward was definitely one way of putting it.
āI donāt know, man. I donāt even know your name, and you wanna give me your room number? Sounds a little fishy to me,ā He expressed, a level of suspicion beginning to form behind his relaxed demeanor. With that said, he took one last sip of his first drink, and went on to the drink thatād been bought for him. At least heād seen it prepared, else he probably wouldnāt have dared to touch it. Didnāt need any of that shit when he was beyond busy tomorrow.Ā
Even if he was to take the information, Jameson knew his likelihood of doing anything with it was little to none. While he was definitely seen as promiscuous among his friends, he still wasnāt terribly fond of just fucking or getting fucked by any man or woman that wanted to chat him up.
Operation Trojan Horse
agentofthenorth:
Jake smirks inwardly, chuckling softly at the other. While this wasnāt their hotel, thereās was a bit more nearer the financial district, he knew that right now he seemed like a fan. But heād already ruled out going with that strategy, instead opting to just try and appear like a local or tourist. He just wanted to be the guy hitting on the cutest guy at the bar.
āA whiskey man,ā he notes. āCanāt say I disagree with that.ā Ordering two more drinks from the bartender with just hand signals, he motions to the man, Jameson, beside him, to order one for him. If this was going to work tonight, then heād definitely need to get him a bit more drunk. Not that he was going to take this anywhere beyond the bounds, but only so far as the other allowed. And as long as he wasnāt too far gone, otherwise heād just get his team to take him back up to bed. Wildly hungover could work too; if he opted to take him up on drinking him under the table that is.
āThis your first time in town?ā he asks. āOr do you visit often?ā
āOften enough. I come up here a couple times a year for business.ā Business was definitely a word for it, but Jameson knew better than to tell people about his profession. It often garnered mixed responses, ranging from people looking at him like he was a giant manchild, or as though he was the luckiest man in the world.
Neither was wrong, honestly.
He canāt help but glance around, at least to get some idea of where the couple members of his team that had accompanied him were at. Casey was chatting up a small group of girls, while he didnāt have any visual on Sharkie or Sleeves. That might end up being a problem if he didnāt locate them soon.
Still, Jameson put his attention back on the man in front of him. It wouldnāt do too much harm, just talking to this guy. He had to keep himself in check, however, they had one hell of an early morning tomorrow.

@theinsurrectionistleaderā
This is the first time in a long time that Jake actually puts some effort into his appearance. Gone are the headphones, the hat and the mussed up hair. In itās place is a neat combover, a close shave, and actually ironed clothing. He wears a deep v-neck, a blazer and a pair of jeans. Itās casual, but itās just enough to look well put together. He comes up to the bar, orders a double vodka, and a club soda with lemon on the side. Itās the way that heās always had it; you do the shot, you take a drink of something tart to wash it down. Rinse and repeat.
Making eye contact with a male across the bar, he downs his drink before moving over.Ā āWhat are you drinking there?ā he asks, though itās simply an ice breaker more than anything else. Heās just a guy at the bar, and Jake isnāt supposed to know he goes both ways.Ā āThat actually doesnāt look half bad, may have to try it for myself.ā
The tips of his fingers massaged into the top of his eyes, hoping that it would do well enough to ease the dull ache of exhaustion that was plaguing him. Heād done little to his overall usual look when preparing to come to the bar, but at least he didnāt seem as though he was just a typical slop going from bar to bar.
When a voice began to address him, he removed his hands from his eyes, and the possibilities already began to turn through his head. The two very real possibilities of this interaction couldāve just been a stranger urging some flirtation, or perhaps this was a fan trying to make it seem like they didnāt actually know him. Regardless, he humored the guy and offered him a bit of a grin before shrugging his shoulders.
āNothinā too special. Just a Jameson on the rocks. Can never resist getting a drink with my own name attached to it.ā He excused, then took a small sip from his glass.ā He looks the guy over a bit, and canāt help but feel like thereās a familiarity to his features. Still, the low lighting and a mild headache was making it hard to place it.
