“ AHHH !!! ” without any warning, toned arms wrap around the ( much ) smaller girl’s shoulders and pull her into a tight hug. “ fitz ! ” she’s kind of squealing in her friend’s ear, she realizes, and so she does release rachel after one last squeeze. sunny’s all bubbly excitement, clapping manicured hands in front of her mouth once or twice. it’s her first day back on campus after her year at CA, and she is practically humming with a need to catch up ( read: gossip ! ).

“They actually let you take that many eggs?” Rachel can’t help but blurt the question in fascinated disbelief, frozen in her tracks where she’d been passing the bright-haired boy, but her tone is far from unkind. After letting herself marvel over the impressive number of hard-boiled eggs on his tray, she moves to set her own tray down beside him, but hesitates before sitting.

“You’re one of the newer arrivals, right?” she asks even though it’s obvious, before flashing him a smile. “Mind if I sit with you?”

he guesses that, well, if one of the three of them has to be separate from the others, it should be him. harry is---. excitable, and uma knows how to rein him in. gil can’t do that. gil can make friends, at least usually. the whole ‘putting a love spell on king ben’ thing with uma made that a little harder right now, but HEY it wasn’t so bad. the lunch lady had only looked at him a little oddly when he had asked for six eggs ( a dozen might have been a little too much, he admits. ) , so he is content. uma always fondly said he was easily amused. she was right.

when someone walking by comments on the eggs, he swallows the first before giving them a wide smile. “ yeah ! ” he responds eagerly. it’s easy to pick up on the girl’s tone, and especially its lack of bite. ( plus, even if she had been trying to be cruel he was easily twice her size. ) “ i was pretty excited, too. ”

“ right ! i’m Gil, ” he introduces himself, gesturing grandly to the empty spot across from him. he already has a good feeling about her. “ bet you can guess who my dad is. ”
