A Watcher doing what Watcher does best... being a golden boy and posing.
Art from a while ago, as always! It's been quite some time since I drew Watcher so I'm glad I have a backlog of him.
Horror-themed campaign you say? Well, let me just pick out the ancestry that's predisposed to be terrified of everything because everyone is out to steal your eyes.
That and I thought it was time I pick something that's not your average humanoid (human, elf, halfling, gnome etc etc). So multi-eyed bipedal horse-like creature with claws it is. Because why would I want to draw something easy?
So this is Sen (Sentry of Many Eyes), my goloma investigator (Pathfinder 2e), who's spooked by pretty much anything, but forces himself to try and overcome his fears.
There's not much info on goloma and only a couple of official pictures, so I took some artistic liberties. Namely giving him some whacky teeth and a set of little eary-like horns to use for conveying emotion (because his eyes are just globes, he probably doesn't even blink??). Also since the campaign has an Asian setting, I wanted to lean into that with some of his design, so took a few little bits from hanfu. I have no idea if goloma can put their hair up when it's covered in tiny eyes, but Sen does, because the way their face plate (??) flicks up at the top looks a bit like a Han dynasty-esque crown.
Likewise, the guy has tens of eyes, and yet he wears a pair of spectacles he doesn't even need. He just wants to be like a regular two-eyed person... So long as they don't take his eyes to make him like them.
When it's the first session of a new campaign and your monochromatic ranger almost has his black-and-white secret blown straight away (I have no idea why they suddenly asked if he was colour blind or not, it came out of nowhere, which made it even more of an 'oh shit no' moment). It's handy when the other player hasn't thought about if their goblin is green or not.
At least Astor was able to salvage it. Watcher wasn't so lucky when he was about three sessions in and his attempts to keep it quiet that he was a prince failed. I did have terrible flashbacks to that moment over six years ago though...
Don't mind me as I try to familiarise myself with a new character design (and throw together a goblin bard on the spot). It's very odd moving from shiny, bright, enthusiastic Watcher to dull, shady, neutral Astor.
How many ways can I draw Watcher, I wonder? I'm always scraping for something just that little bit different, and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. This is somewhere in between I think, if only because I do like a lineless style :'D
Some Grayson from around the time I was rewriting Rosso e Nero. I was so out of practice with drawing him that this felt so strange to put together. It still looks a bit off to me even now
*insert plugging Rosso e Nero: Accession here* - Go buy my book if you want something that's got guns, casinos, money and action.
After the trauma of his not-quite-girlfriend turning to snow in his hands, Watcher eventually found the real Aranessa at the bottom of the ocean in the plane of water. The party also found a kraken guarding her, so that was a fight... :'D
Some old Watcher art to remind you all I'm still alive.
With everything he went through in his campaign, Watcher was usually one wrong step away from a breakdown. Often he got close but managed to save himself, but I imagine those cracks never healed and his façade of a positive, can-do, let's-just-keep-going attitude only hid them.
He made it through the campaign, but I still imagine even in retirement he was on the edge of falling apart. And knowing Watcher, it would be a dramatic falling apart, because he'd let everything go in one big moment...!
A fake screenshot from a little while back when Watcher was rescuing Aranessa, but I think she was more capable of saving herself once she got hold of a gun. Good thing too, because Watcher was too busy swooning over a confident woman shooting a bunch of guards.
I went back in time a bit to do a few screenshots from the campaign, so there may be a bit of back and forth in the timeline (not that I'm sure anyone will notice!).
hi i keep seeing your posts! did you know your pc Astor looks a loooot similar to the video game character named Astor (from Age of Calamity), specifically the fan renditions of him?? if he wasn't an influence/inspiration then this was an insane coincidence and i just HAD to let you know
-the Astor age of calamity cult
Hi there! I didn't know this, no, so it's definitely a coincidence! My Astor (aka Astorius) has been around longer than Age of Calamity (roughly since 2016 or so), so I like to think there's been no accidental subliminal influence in my creation of him - not to mention I've never played the game before!
But thank you for letting me know, it's a funny one!
Then and now. Before and after.
Just some old Astor, when he used to just be your average game tracker for hire, and the now Astor as a monochromatic bounty hunter after he lost colour and feelings.
Don't mind the thrown together 'before' design - Astor has always been the monochromatic, armour-wearing boy to me (he's been around for at least nine years since that's when I have a little cartoony doodle of him from), so putting colours and regular clothes on him was downright odd. I just made up an eye colour because it's always been grey 😅 But I wanted a bit of a contrast picture, so had to come up with something for the ~art and meankng~ (which I won't stick with because hunter, edgy Astor is how he should be...!)
Have a silly comic doodle following on from the last one (it was only posted around Valentine's last year I think...) when Watcher didn't get his much needed beauty sleep because of reasons/Aranesaa.
Art from so long ago (only two years...) that it feels odd revisiting things that happened in Watcher's campaign... And yet I have many an old campaign things to post 😅 please excuse me as I get through them slowly but surely!
An Aranessa piece, as I forever struggle how to draw women... Because she deserved a portrait piece when she has Watcher fawning over her.
It's definitely better than I used to be, but let's just blame any women inaccuracies on this being old art and I must be even better now, right?? (spoilers, I'm not 😅) It's only been over two years since I drew this...
Nothing says edgy like twin swords and a big cat skull. And Astor can't be anything less than edgy.
I continue to have a backlog of Watcher art, but I've been playing Astor for over a year now so should really sprinkle some monochrome emo elf in between the paladin ray of sunshine.
Some old art from Watcher's campaign (never mind it finished over a year ago... 😅)
After probably something like a year of in-game time of waiting for the chance to go back to her, followed by doing everything you could to try and keep the woman you're chasing alive when you see her again, I imagine it's pretty traumatic to have her fall apart into snow right in front of you (not to mention the fact he had to kill an alternate version of her a short while ago as part of a dungeon test where they were married with a daughter, so you know, Watcher is having a rough time with his love life in between watching family members die and trying to save the world).
On one hand, Watcher knew what it meant (simulacrum, so like a magical clone of the original), but on the other hand, it's still much like having her die on him because he had no idea if the real her knows who he is and the times he spent were with the fake her.
Just some awkward Watcher, because that boy is awkward as af, especially for a max charisma paladin of heroism...
A redraw of my dynamic duo of problematic besties. Dekker and Zeke were in two different campaigns, but as polar opposites I used to write with them a lot and enjoyed the contrast immensely. You can't beat the rogue/assassin and bard combination.
Have a silly little Watcher x Aranessa strip born from a session over a year ago... :'D
For someone with max charisma, Watcher struggles a little.
I do have a few other bits and pieces for the two of them, some more little strips, some more arty, but this is the oldest so probably best to post sooner rather than later...
