@thejax-reed
"So you won't ride to the top with me to see all the sparkling lights?" He pouted, looking more like a kicked puppy than a grown man. He probably should be asking Faye to ride with him. Some people thought the Ferris wheel romantic, but he wanted to go on it with Jax. There was something about the two of them attending a carnival ride in the middle of a vampire festival that seemed right in Will's addled mind. His vision blurred a bit at the edges. When Jaxon took the glass away, his gloves were once again visible. "Pretty colors." He tried to touch them only to frown when they moved, not realizing it was his own hand.
Jax squeezed William's shoulders a little tighter, not sure if there was much he could do to help. At least, now that he'd found him, he could make sure nothing too terrible happened, right? "If I wasn't afraid you'd fall, I would." the beta rolled his eyes affectionately, his gaze eventually drifting over the other's shoulder toward the neon frame of the Ferris wheel. Will was right. It did look pretty awesome. But first things first.. "Tell you what. You let me get you a tall glass of water and walk you to the bathroom to freshen up, and I'll consider the Ferris wheel. Is Faye busy with Caleb?"
one of the best things about being a spirit was the ability to simply disappear for a while, but it did leave her often feeling like no one would see her anyway. especially when surrounded by such a dense population of vibrant, lively others. vix hesitated, surprised to have been noticed as she skulked along the edges of the party. "three what?" she asked, curiosity finally getting the better of her.
her eyes followed his to his forearm and the fang prints still vaguely present there, but decided not to comment openly on it. vix chewed on the inside of her cheek thoughtfully as she quickly returned her stare to his face. "sorry, did I startle you?"
"Uh, no." The wolf managed in a gruff voice the second his gaze locked onto Vix. He was obviously lying, from the way his shoulders had instantly squared up, but he hoped that she might humor him. It wasn't unusual to get distracted given all the people there. Jax glanced down at his drink, completing his earlier thought. "Three drinks. That's what I meant." he continued, offering a faint, humorless smirk as an olive branch for his sharp tone. "Let's just say the air in here is a bit crowded." Jax lifted the glass, as if to confirm what he was saying. "..who are you?"
Caleb was off making sure that everything was okay and while it was admirable, Naz hadn't planned on spending her night that way. But when she saw Jaxon Reed by the dancefloor, she felt like she had to make sure he was okay. Grabbing a second drink from the bar, the spirit moved across the dancefloor to speak to him. She stopped abruptly at his tone, realising maybe she shouldn't have been approaching him. The pack already hated her so what hard could it do? "I didn't mean to disturb you."
The spirit held up a drink to the werewolf. Naz didn't know much about the inner workings of the Lycaon pack but she understood that Jaxon was important to her boyfriend. She wanted to make a good impression and a drink seemed like a good start. "Your drink was starting to look empty, Mr Reed. I thought you might like a fresh one?" she offered.
The frustation on Jaxon’s face smoothed out, replaced by a flicker of recognition as his gaze settled on Naz. He hadn't meant to look grumpy or anything, but judging by her own expression, it was obvious she'd noticed. "..uh, no. Don't be sorry. I was in my head." he muttered, looking from her face down to the glass she was holding out. "Naz, right?" The wolf reached out, his fingers carefully turning his inner wrist away from her line of sight, not out of shame but..in an effort to keep the conversation light and casual, as it ought to be. "Thank you. For the drink. It's definitely appreciated." he nodded, wondering if she'd been looking for Caleb. "..I think I liked the celebrations a lot better last year. How have you been?"
Caleb spotted Jax away from the dance floor. They had something of a truce between them now and it did not hurt to say hello to the lone wolf.
"Hello, Jax," he greeted, his keen eyes not missing the puncture wounds on Jax's inner wrist even if he decided not to pry. They lingered there for a moment before looking up at the other wolf's face. What Jax wanted to do at this party was not his concern. "Enjoying the party?"
"Caleb, hey." Was it a surprise to see the alpha in an event like this? No. Jaxon figured it was part of protocol, to make sure nothing too unlawful happened. But it was obvious by the subtle shift in his features, that he had not exactly heard him coming. The loud music, the crowd and the heavy smell of blood and wine would have thrown anyone off, right? At least that's the excuse he gave himself.
Turning his wrist inward to hide the fresh puncture wounds from Caleb's sharp gaze, the beta offered him a shrug. "As much as one can enjoy themselves in a room full of vampires, I guess." he scoffed, "How about you? I talked to Naz earlier. It seemed like she was lookin' for you."
Jaxon was sturdy. He needed sturdy when the whole room pulsed in time with the music. He wanted to ask how he was enjoying the party, but all that came out of his mouth was a garbled mess. His tongue felt heavy. He didn't know what made his tongue feel heavy. He grabbed a drink from the person passing, uncaring what it was. He drank down the fruity concoction, sighing in relief as his tongue felt lighter. He just had cotton mouth.
"Vampires are fun. Look what they did." He gestured all around them. "We should ride the Ferris wheel. They brought in a whole damn Ferris wheel." He grinned hoping that Jax would ride it with him. He would like Faye to ride with him, but she was busy being Caleb's second. That reminds him, he should find Caleb. He blinked, attempting to process what Jax had asked him. There had been a question in there somewhere.
Jaxon’s jaw tightened the exact second he saw William snag a random drink off a passing tray. The way he had already downed the sugary, neon liquid so swift..well, there wasn't a damned thing he could've done to stop it. "..I will agree the Ferris wheel looks nice, but that's about it, you hear me?" The beta took the glass from him, lest he should fall victim to another one of his whims, setting it down on the nearest surface. Turning to face the man properly, Jaxon's rough expression softened just a fraction as he noticed William's glazed, drifting stare. "..hey, Will? Where'd your head go?"
"Spoopy. scary skeleton send shivers down my spine." He hugged his brother from another mother, feeling the love of everyone around him. "Your outfit is so cool. I thought people would draw on my shirt, but yours is a skeleton. That's sooooo cool." He giggled, not laughed, giggled as he hung off of Jax. "Are you having fun? This party is so fun. These people are so fun. I don't know why Caleb was so worried. Vampires are fun. They made the fun."
Leave it to William Rogers to find him among hundreds of people. That man had an undeniable ability to track people down, and he'd ..well, succeeded yet again.
Jaxon didn't even have time to brace himself before the wolf collided with him. Any thoughts he was having, any ..worries, immediately evaporated as Will wrapped him in a tight hug, hanging off him with the absolute, unbothered glee of someone who was several drinks deep into a very good night. "Easy tiger," Reed scoffed, instinctively bringing his arm up to hold the other in return. "I'm glad you like my outfit..but wait. Did you just say vampires are fun?" Jax scoffed, "Jesus, Rogers. Are you high?"
"Just me." She slipped her arm around his being careful not to get paint on him. Max rested her head on his shoulder for a moment, she hadn't been to the bar in a little while. Avoiding going on another bender was for the best and she'd prefer to not end up in some kind of trouble here.
"You know you don't have to be here." Max would always be soft for Jax they'd spent a lot of time together over the past few months especially after the fires she'd spent hours at his bar repainting and he'd become a person she was comfortable with. Though that was likely made easier by her dating Gwen. "I'm really not sure why I am really."
Jaxon wasn't sure what he noticed first, her presence or her voice, but the tension in his shoulders seemed to fade the moment he felt her leaning in. The scent of paint clung to her, not ink..but glow-in-the dark paint, which, lest he forget..was tonight's theme.
The beta relaxed his fist, subtly turning his wrist inward against his torso to hide the fresh twin punctures before Max's witch's senses or the neon lighting could give him away, and leaned back against her head. "..turns out neither of us like the idea of missing out." ..FOMO, was it called? Yeah, probably something like that. "..you good?" Reed did look over his shoulder, unconciously looking for Gwen somewhere nearby, and heard himself exhale softly.
The Rubicund wasn't exactly Jaxon Reed's scene. It was loud, crawling with leeches and substances he did not care much for in his older age. And yet, there he fucking was, secluded to one of the faraway corners of the dance floor. His thinking was that he should at least check things out, see if he spotted any familiar faces and maybe..just maybe, have a drink or two.
"..or three." he scoffed, finishing that thought to himself as he stared at the puncture wounds in his inner wrist. A mistake. Not an awful one but..a mistake nonetheless. He shouldn't have let that vampire taste it, but to hell with it. Clenching and unclenching his fist, Reed soon overheard steps close by, and let out another huff. "What?"

JAXON REED's WINE FESTIVAL 2026 LOOK
Viv internally fought with the voice in her head that told her it was a mistake. She was hungry, exhausted, and jet lagged which was a bad combination for a vampire to be, but she was also homesick. Something about Jax reminded her of the home she’d rushed to get back to when she finished her research, and she wanted to savor that feeling a little longer. She also wondered if some part of her clung to him because it was her last tether to Danny, to the person she was several lifetimes ago.
“That sounds like some brave talk from the big bad wolf. Guess we’ll just have to see about that,” she mused with a half grin. The expression faltered slightly as he grew closer to her. She could feel a charge brew in the short distance between them, glancing up to meet his eyes before turning to walk inside.
“I’m glad to see the place hasn’t lost its touch.” Viv took in the bar as she made her way to the nearest stool, still smelling the remnants of ash and fresh construction at the rebuild. She’d been devastated to hear about his bar, considering how much he’d shared his passion for the place before she left. Feeling his grip on her shoulder as she placed her jacket on the nearby stool, a soft smile spread on her lips. “So…how are you holding up? You know, after everything. And don’t you dare say you’re fine because I don’t need vampire senses to know that’s a lie,” she asked, a hint of a tease in her tone as she watched him flick on the lights.
Jaxon switched on the overhead lights at the bar, choosing to leave the rest off, and moved behind the bar with a with a familiar, practiced ease..and a smile, which grew fonder when she spoke. "You gonna put me to the test, doctor?" the wolf said, giving the vampiress a slow, lingering look. The kind that she might have been used to from him once, before their lives and work took a hold of them. "I'll try my best, if that's the case. I can promise that much."
He reached for a couple of clean glasses, using a cloth to polish hers before setting them both on the countertop. Then, he looked over his shoulder and took a step back to get a wine he'd been saving up for some time. For what, he could not recall but..he remembered Vivian enjoying it that one night in his office. "..it wasn't all me. Will, Max, even Gwen..they all helped in one way or another." And he was thankful for it, he thought. Reed poured the dark, velvet liquid into her glass, and continued, "As for me..I'm good. Really. Just tired and missing pack life a little more than I'd like to admit."
Jax pushed the glass toward her, his fingers grazing the tabletop, and shrugged it off. "I also missed you." he added, "How's..research been? Good news?"
"I have avoided them most times but this one I got caught up in I guess." She hadn't had much experience being in the dreams the aftermath of know it's a dream is what really what had turned her on her head. She took a lot longer than she would have liked to get back to normal. "I've seen your work place it's only right you see mine."
She couldn't help the smile on her lips, he wasn't wrong they'd had a lot of fun in the years they'd been together. She'd never grown bored od him or sick of the way he made her feel. They'd had a lot of fun and she'd missed him almost desperately over the last few weeks. "We did have a great time... I'd like to have more great times if life permits it."
"Boring?" She shrugged a little, "I wouldn't say that, love. I'm sure your life might just be going through a bit of a lull but perhaps we can fix that?"
"A bit of a lull. I like that." Jaxon huffed, finding it extremely difficult not to let the amusement show in his expression. It was true. He had been stuck in a limbo of sorts, clinging onto the illusion that his life could still bear meaning outside of the pack, and in the process, he'd somehow forgotten that he could actually have fun. Reed looked at her, hesitating a moment. "I don't know, Mab..are you sure you want to pour your efforts into me?" Not for nothing, but he was way old..er than her, and she had to have a sea of options out there; men who weren't as haunted or as tired as a rogue wolf. The wolf waited for her answer, bracing himself for her to tell him he was being ridiculous. Then, against all odds, he managed to surprise himself. "Okay." he blurted, curious as hell to explore whatever 'fixing' she had in mind. "Forget what I said -let's fix it."
"Does it? Ten months doesn't seem that long given how old we both are. Or how old we can get," Caleb said lightly, even if these ten months with Naz had been some of the best in his otherwise drama-filled life.
"I am. She's good to me. I only hope I can be the same for her," he added with a nod. "The pack is not particularly about it happy though." Those words tumbled out of his mouth unthinkingly before Caleb realised he'd said them out loud, the back and forth with Jax reminiscent of how easy things used to be between them. "Ah, I mean..." Oh, great. Caleb had said too much.
"It is you we're talkin' about, isn't it? No offense, but ten months is definitely a long time." In all their time together, Jax had not known the young alpha to show interest in anyone, let alone announced it like this. Could things be changing? Could he..? There was a brief moment where the beta considered it, his mind flashing back to the much younger, rule abiding version of Caleb he had helped rise, but the thought seem to vanish just as quickly as it'd come. There it was. The pack's precious approval. Jax leaned back, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth as he watched Caleb stumble over his own words. "I know exactly what you mean. Talk to me, Caleb. How do you feel about that?" The irony of the moment was rather priceless but he wasn't there to gloat.

Jaxon adores Max and not just because they make Gwen happy, but because of who they are as a person. He knows he does not have to worry about them or question their trust, ever. At this point, if they ever need him, he's got them.

The best way to define how Jaxon feels about Mabile is 'it's complicated'. She intrigues him and there is unmistakable chemistry, but it is hard to tell whether they really know each other or it's all about the versions of themselves during the Zombie AU. If that were the case, he'd like to change that.
