Episode #1
"Getting Involved in Your Local Japanese Community"
It’s the debut episode for the JAPAN + the WORLD podcast! This podcast features Japan and the effects of its culture reaching across the globe.
In this episode, I spoke with Colette Fozard, Director of Operations for Sakura Matsuri Japanese Street Festival located in Washington DC and organized by the Japan-America Society of Washington DC. Colette not only keeps all of our Committee Chairs and the festival organization in top condition, but she is also heavily involved in the operations of a number of pop cultural conventions. We discuss ways in which you can get involved with your local Japanese community through education, organizations, events, conventions, and more!

An ask spurred this little post, because I've been mia a lot recently on this tumblr, and it's not because I've lost interest. Quite the opposite actually.
It's become a bit of a challenge for me to make the posts I want to make on here, just because what I want to do is very time consuming.
A lot of Japan tumblrs are very artsy, pretty, or hipster photo types. Nothing against them, but that doesn't offer any real information on Japan. That is what I want to post mainly on my blog, the informative stuff. That being said, the challenge I face is having the time to generate those kinds of educational posts, because if you've noticed, there aren't that many out there to reblog from (with exception to a few I follow that are language focused). Reblogging gives me a break, and it keeps the tumblr active when I don't have time to post something original.
Looking past a lot of fandom/otaku posts I reblog, I want to make the time to put out educational posts more often. I will try to do that more often as I get my time management under control again (new job, new projects, more active recently in J-community stuff, etc).
I will be churning out the podcast soon, which is a surreal thing, because I've been talking about it for almost a year. But I finally took one step and then another and I'm finally getting it out there. :)
That will help generate some more original posts on here too.
Look forward to it!
Miyajima Deer The deer are a symbol of Miyajima and you can see them elegantly wandering the island everywhere. The deer are sacred and believed to be a messenger of the gods in Shinto. They are treated very well by the locals and aren’t afraid of people.
Hello ~ First of all, I love your blog, it's one of the most Japan-centered blogs I have seen here on Tumblr and I also think the stuff you post is more interesting when compared to what you posted before. Anyway, I wanted to ask you, and I'm sure many have already asked you this before, but who are some of the J-Pop artists you listen to? Who are your favorites? Do you prefer idols or non-idols?
Yo,
Thanks! I'm so mia recently on the posting, because of other projects taking up my time. There is also a challenge I face in shaping the content I provide here, which I'm going to comment on in a post soon.
Artists - I haven't been listening to any sole release/album/single. I've mostly had anime openings/endings running in the bg recently. However, some of my old time favorites were Mr. Children or Kimeru. Just out of nostalgia, but also I genuinely like their lyrics.
A little fun advice for anyone (like me) who leaves music running in the bg everyday, I often will leave a stream of anime episodes on. I can practice my Japanese listening skills, while getting other work done. I recommend a series you are really into, or even something simple like a children's show (such as Kogepan or Ochaken, etc).

The question was the root of the problem. It's asinine to assume that anyone who is associated with anime is an "otaku". Within the realm of anime viewers, there are otaku, but are all viewers otaku? No.
