One more Scarborough Festival post - highlights from the bird show!
The other weekend I went to the Scarborough Renaissance Festival in Waxahachie, TX! First time visiting, had a blast and got some great photos!
Shoutouts to: Last Chance Forever Bird Conservatory Queen Chikamharida for Tales of African Tradition Cirque du Sewer Schrodinger the cat (for being the subject of one of the best photos i got all day lol)
Bald Eagles!
This is a nesting pair by White Rock Lake in Dallas and one of their babies - the babies are about ready to take flight!
A majestic Great Blue Heron!
Been getting a lot of amazing photos recently, and finally been getting through my backlog of editing. More photos soon.
Green Heron from last year.
I have been getting more photos, got some good ones during the big freeze. But I wanted to wait because things got... rough, broadly speaking. Posting as usual didn't feel right.
Call a friend today. New photos coming soon.
@todaysbird what kind of bird is this??
the wonderful Anhinga, also known as the snakebird (I can’t imagine why)
I'm still alive! Just haven't been able to get out with my camera recently - more photos coming soon-ish!

Red-headed Woodpeckers have a somewhat disagreeable nature. More often than not, they’re squabbling and chasing off birds of a similar size, from grosbeaks to jays to kingbirds. The birds here at Cedar Creek are particularly aggressive around their nest cavities, but they’ll fly clear across a field to harass a distant “intruder.” Share the space, dudes!

Do you ever feel like a wattle-necked softshell turtle (Palea steindachneri)? You are not alone. Found in parts of Southeastern China and Vietnam, this rare reptile’s carapace, or shell, can grow up to 17 in (43.2 cm) long. It inhabits freshwater pools and feeds on fish, insects, and small invertebrates. Unfortunately, this critically endangered species is threatened due in part to habitat degradation and being hunted for the food trade.
