One of these nudis is not like the other…

Even though nudibranchs are used to baring it all, there are still plenty of mysteries hiding in plain sight! Nudibranch species are often “cryptic”—nearly identical to the eye, but genetically distinct. These two beautiful slugs found in Monterey Bay were discovered to be two separate species just last year: Cockerell’s dorid on top (📷 Michael Alyono), and McDonald’s dorid on the bottom (📷 JR Sosky). Named after Dr. Gary McDonald from UC Santa Cruz, Limacia mcdonaldi joins the ranks of species for nudibranch fans to track down. A good tell you’ve found McDonald’s dorid? The racing stripe of dark orange bumps running down the middle of its backside. Time to update the nudie guest list!

Rise and shine little bees! ☀️🐝

This little bee hatchling is one of the several leaf cutter bee species that are native to the UK. They’re valuable pollinators in the garden and a gardener’s friend 😀 Signs of their presence can be seen in plants that have had elliptical shapes cut from their leaves, particularly on roses.

Print it out about 3 feet on edge and then you will really enjoy the armor this Amazon sports. 

Her glossy ebony plates have arrays of machined divots, each uniquely sized, but in relationship with the surrounding pits such that spacing and sizes array in flowering topographies of power functions that mates art and form in a perfect union. Add bands of thick ermine hairs, accenting strands of hair with a well pool of a black eye so removed from our reality that you now know that aliens commingle. Oh, this little being was found outside the sound stage of Wolf Trap Park in Virginia.
