Phase: Day Seven
Phase: Day Seven
Christian didnāt know what to say to Reg that hadnāt already been said. Or that he would accept in his usual āelite broā way. āIām sorry, mon complice. Consider founding an art movement. It worked for Tzara.ā
He sighed. āI thought I said that already.ā Pretentiousness and aristocracy went hand in hand. āPosh pretension, then.ā
āYouāve always had far moreā¦ā endurance āā¦tolerance for those things than me.ā A severe understatement, even with the correction. āWeāll have to try, you know, meaningful connection. And not just with pretty girls.ā He gave Reg a small elbow. āPretty people, excuse me. But that is the trouble. I think you may have to be seen doing it.ā
Christian groaned, letting his frustration fully out for once. āYouād think, but he actually encouraged them to form a union. Naive little psychopath. You might think you can control that shit with goodwill, but you canāt.ā He shook his head at Regās caution. āNo, no, he offed his dad. Seems like the org is happy about it though. Theyāre on their way to IPO.ā
"No way in Hell, dude. Back when Tali was dating Mia, she brought her over a few times. Everything that Mia showed me did not look comprehensible, but I googled a few of the pieces and they were worth millions." He'd been polite, but he really didn't get it. Owning art as an asset was easy to understand, but actually liking that shit? Not for him.
He chuckled. "It was implied, but I like stating it. Not everyday you meet former aristocracy in America." His father knew more than his fair share of royals in England, but none of them were as fun as Christian.
Ah, so Christian had been paying attention to things. Even when he played the aloof layabout he was still keeping his eye on stuff. "Yeah, well, it might be easier to scope things out in the next few days. I thought I was going to make a real run at being a boyfriend but," She seemed more into his best friend, "This doesn't seem like the right place to test that out." Not wanting to dwell on his lack of viable alternatives, he changed tactics. "What does meaningful mean here? Blackmail material or, like, actually trying to be a friend to these people."
Reg tried to puzzle through Christian's revelations in his head. Caleb was pro-union and pro-patricide. There was something a little strange about being in both camps, but who was he to judge? "Good for them, sometimes it's the easiest option in business." He'd never had confirmation that his family had gone that far, but it wasn't out of the realm of possibility.
