Like genuinely, if I see one more person, but especially one more queer person, whipping out "Lady G" or photoshopping big tits on Graham or making the most fucking boring-ass poppers jokes, I'm gonna fucking lose it.

You can talk about the fact that it's really fucked up that his frequenting of gay sex workers was an "open secret," as was his sexuality full stop, without making jokes that boil down to "hahaha look at the faggot."

If your "joke" can be distilled down to "Haha, you're GAY", then it's a homophobic joke.

'These homophobes are actually kissing/gay' = "Haha, they're gay(derogatory)"

Crossdressing/actualy a man/woman jokes = "Haha, they're trans(derogatory)"

'[man] should go eat a dick' = "Haha, he's gay(derogatory, because gay sex is bad)"

It's only a joke. Which relies on a worldview where queer people are bad and something insulting to be labelled. And miss me with the 'I'm only saying it because they would be insulted'. By using it as an insult, you're reinforcing their opinion. If being queer is a good or even neutral thing, then it's still a good or neutral thing around people you don't like.

It makes me extremely frustrated and sad when talking about antisemitism that I've personally experienced is treated like a nefarious trick that I'm using to push some political goal. I've been told that I'm "weaponizing" being Jewish to "argue the point" that there's antisemitism on the left, when I'm literally just sharing the objective reality that I've experienced antisemitism from the left. The phases of grief I go through are like: I wish they believed me -> it's terrifying that they reflexively refuse to believe me -> I'm so furiously angry that they never believe me -> no other minority group would be treated with so much disrespect and indignity in these spaces -> god I'm tired.

Arguing about antisemitism on non-Jewish parts of the internet is just throwing my life force down a bottomless well. There is no winning, there is only more pain to be had there. The only victories against antisemitism are brought forth through real-life action, and the ultimate victory against antisemitism is to live a joyful Jewish life.

A lot of leftist men who thought backlash against feminism had changed things enough that they didn’t have to pretend to care about any of the horrible things Platner has done to women (and for whom part of the appeal was likely the thought of sticking it to “dem hr lady woke scold politics”) frantically deleting posts today and beginning an intense campaign of “we’re all trying to find who did this” gaslighting. I hope they all continue to be confronted with the receipts we have of all the disgusting things they’ve said and done throughout this mess for the rest of their miserable lives and careers.

I made this post in October. Since then, it came out that Graham Platner fully knew about his Nazi tattoo and playfully referred to it as "his totenkopf." It came out that he has a history of slurs and prejudice against gay men. It came out that he joined the military specifically because he wanted to kill people. It came out that he is a serial cheater. Today, it has come out that he is a physical abuser.

I am begging the democratic primary voters of Maine to stop this. As liberals and progressives, we have to be the first to shut down awful men like this, not the last.
