It’s all fun and games laughing about Haymitch over sharing and Katniss under sharing in comparison until you realize Haymitch is trying to remember all the fine details of everyone he will never see again and Katniss is trying to protect her remaining autonomy by keeping those details private

The difference in their trauma responses being shown from the very start of their narratives guts me

This YouTube comment has been on my mind since I finished SOTR so this is what I came up with:

Lucy Gray was the mockingbird, living on the outskirts of district 12 and was there at the wrong time when they were forced to stay there after the Dark Days. They were subjected to the Capitol’s politics despite not being a part of Panem, technically speaking. Lucy Gray became part of the Games and, likewise, the mockingbird became affiliated with the Capitol through the jabberjay’s release into the woods, but it still continued to sing its own song.

Haymitch was the jabberjay, a Capitol tool that did what it had to in order to survive. The Capitol thought they could control them, but they retaliated in the form of rebellion. Haymitch refused to be a piece in their game and tried to end it, and the jabberjay, in the eyes of the Capitol, created a freak of nature that showed the Capitol’s lack of complete control.

Katniss was the mockingjay, a slap in the face of the Capitol, something that was never meant to exist. Together, the song of the mockingbird that lived on for generations and the stubbornness of the jabberjay that refused to die, the mockingjay had the best of both worlds. It was a symbol of rebellion and unity.

"Clove!" I hear Cato's answer, but he's too far away, I can tell that much, to do her any good. What was he doing? Trying to get to Foxface or Peeta? Or had he been lying in wait for Thresh and just badly misjudged his location?

do you ever think about how haymitch sent katniss gifts with every bit of sponsor money he could scrape up and never sent peeta anything. and katniss assumes it’s because she can understand what he’s saying to her. and peeta thinks it’s because he has no chance of winning anyway. and nobody ever considers that maybe haymitch just couldn’t bear to watch his best friend’s daughter suffer without at least trying to help her. maybe he couldn’t watch his sweetheart die again

I’m confident that if Katniss truly hadn’t wanted kids Peeta would have gotten a vasectomy like very early on in their relationship. He canonically only cares about getting to be with Katniss, so he wasn’t gonna break up with her over this. That never would have happened, this is not a deal breaker to him. Peeta doesn’t even express an interest in children beyond basic human empathy. We know he cares about protecting the innocent, but that doesn’t mean he even pictured himself as a dad. That’s all Katniss. She was the one who always not-so-secretly wanted to have a family with him but kept telling us it was about what Peeta wanted. Remember, the only things Peeta actually expresses are 1. Wondering if Katniss likes him back. 2. Worrying that Katniss likes Gale more. 3. Deciding that Katniss and Gale make more sense together (based on literally nothing) and actively wanting them to get together 😭 4. Wanting to die so he ‘fixes’ all of Katniss’s problems (LOL fat chance). 5. Wanting Katniss to get mad at him so ‘it’s easier’ when he goes (LOL coach Peeta had the exact opposite effect). Bro never says anything about what their future would even look like beyond just hanging out with Haymitch and ‘being normal’ (which to him is silently doing crafts together). Katniss is the only one dreaming about Peeta’s babies and fantasizing about how tender he’d be with them. Give me a BREAK anti-everlark-family people. Girl literally said she wouldn’t have minded being a teen mom as long as the hunger games got cancelled forever.

Perhaps I'm in the minority here but as someone with extensive horse experience I'm not really in support of the theory that the chariot horses in the original trilogy are mutts due to what occurred during the opening ceremonies of the 50th games. I wouldn't put them being aced (drugged) past the gamemakers but why would they waste so much time and resources creating a mutt thats job was just to be a well trained horse?
