The thing that I love most about Dita Von Teese, is that I can see a close up of some random piece of her attire in an extremely cropped photo, and yet I’m still able to instantly recognize that it’s her. Pointed toe Christian Louboutin heels with black seamed stockings? Definitely Dita. A single cocktail ring with red half moon manicured nails? That has to be Dita. And that’s the very definition of what a fashion icon should be- instantly recognizable and trend setting to the point that you’d almost mistake a person for a brand. Dita didn’t just recycle vintage fashion from one era and call it a day. She mixed goth culture with vintage pieces from the 20s-60s, and she did it so remarkably well, that to this day the pin up girls who came after her are still dying their hair black and keeping their skin pale with hopes of recreating the perfect vintage look (when in reality that’s a Dita look, and not required for vintage looks in general). In a sea of tattooed gals with Bettie haircuts and leather jackets, Dita has always managed to find the perfect balance of individuality, while still paying ode to Old Hollywood.
