Confidently Incorrect:

This is a running list of times creatives have been so overconfident they understood something they didn't even bother googling it.

(This post is just about the confidently incorrect aspect and has nothing to do with the media itself.)

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (2009), in this movie the script writer is so confident that a Wolverine is a kind of wolf (instead of a weasel) they write the following line.

Kayla Silverfox: "... but Kuekuatsu didn't know that once you leave the Spirit World, you can never go back. And every night, he looks up at the sky, sees the moon and *howls* her name. But... he can never touch her again.

Logan: Wow. Koo-koo-ka-choo got screwed.

Kayla Silverfox: "Kuekuatsu, ... it means the Wolverine."

Black Widow (2021): In this film the script writer thinks that if you can fly under the radar you should be able to fly above the radar. Clearly not understanding that radar works in simple teams like a bubble with flying under the radar means there is so much being picked up you can get lost in the noise. Whereas being above the radar would mean you are even more visible (this is an over simplification of how radar works). They were so sure their rule of cool was right they didn't even bother googling it in a time of smartphones.

Peaky Blinders (2013-2022-26): Now this one I am taking the word of those on the internet who say they speak Romanian (I do not). It has been reported that in the first few season of Peaky Blinders they use Romanian when the characters are speaking their in-group language, when in fact they are supposed to be speaking a form of Romani. It was assumed, apparently, that Romanian and Romani are the same, when in fact they are not.

One thing I really liked about this scene in Superman 2025 was when arguing with Lois, David Corenswet gives a performance where Clark can show his emotions without being threatening to Lois or aggressive while still showing his aggravation.

Some reasons the 1955 series The Adventures of Robin Hood starring Richard Greene is the best Robin Hood

Robin is smart and sassy and occasionally dresses in drag

Maid Marian is brave and intelligent and anytime someone tells her she can't do something she says "who's going to stop me" and does it anyway and the story doesn't punish her for doing that

Maid Marian is also a great archer and her skill level is compared to Robin's

The Sheriff of Nottingham is cruel and tyrannical but also practical and he often wear glorious thigh high boots

Little John is big and strong but also quite intelligent despite not having any formal education

Friar Tuck loves good food and good wine and has en evil twin brother

The anti-McCarthyism messaging

The pro-community, anti-tyranny messaging

Robbing the rich to feed the poor

Everyone who is in love is a bit dim because of it, leading to hilarity

Robin and Marian are together early on and don't make us suffer through an annoying and ultimately pointless will-they/won't-they

That theme song

All the men wear tights

Robin's dimples

The women in this show are generally awesome

The writing in this show often cleverly subverts common tropes that are still in plenty of shows today

The writers were literally blackballed for by Hollywood for having communist sympathies

Some real introspection on the role of class and power in society

Educational episodes about medieval life and society

The good guys always win and tyranny won't last forever

There was literally no chemistry, I thought the obligatory sex scene would be between raven and Hank (bc homophobia) but like what!?! This literally makes no sense

I love cherik! but don't worry, I can also explain what's going on here. First Raven is 28, when they are talking about her aging they are saying aspects of her genes will still be young but she isn't. A.k.a. wrighters trying to explain why Raven is X-Men 2000 movie looks 30s and this Raven also looks young but no one else does. I have a post about the ages in the movie. But I can assure you she is 28 years old, not 15. (In a nut shell, they were going to set the movie in the 50s, change their minds to the 60s, and forget to fix the credits, 1944 Raven is 10 years old. 1962 Raven is 28)

You see, First Class is a prequel/reboot. They never committed to either why fully, and most of the strange story choices come from this.

The kiss comes entirely as a reference to the flirty nature of their relationship in the 2000 X-Men film. It's not my favorite moment, but it's supposed to be a reference, that's all.

Raven's story here with the kiss is a quick way to show Erik acceptance her as she really is and helps her see herself as beautiful too. It also supposed to show why she'd choose to go with Erik at the end, given that they don't talk at any point in the movie really before that.

best believe as soon as i read frankenstein i'll be back to psychoanalyze erik saying "let's just say i'm frankenstein's monster ... and i'm looking for my creator" in first class

So I did read Frankenstein's Monster, and aside from being a complete waist of time (the book is boring and poorly written, sorry Mrs. SHELLY 😕 I wanted to like it!) the only significant character insight at all are that these lines are exactly what they say, the Monster, having been created then abandoned by Frankenstein and then also removing the possibility for family from the Monster swears he'll make Frankenstein suffer. That's it, it's on the nose, and I fully regret not just reading the wiki because that book was tedious at best. (not hating on those who like this book, but boy, was I expecting more.)
