“I just remember that if young children got colicky, the nursemaids usually gave them goat milk. Its easier to digest or something like that.” She shrugged a little but seemed pleased with his response.
“I wouldn’t even ask for that very reason and because its unlikely you’d find what we were looking for. It might not be obvious enough to recognize even if you came across it. A lot of the books are purposefully vague or encoded.” She sighed a little but a small smile followed after.
“Well I suppose should I uncover the exact cause.. its not impossible.” Adelaide gestured dismissively even if she was offering that slight hope.
“Though she is quite a cute little thing.” She smushed the infant’s cheeks gently to pucker her chubby little face. “Aren’t you darling?” Ava just cooed at her mother and made little grabby hands at her face. That slight smile tugged at the corner of her lips again and she pressed a kiss to her daughter’s forehead.
“Its time for her nap, do you mind putting her to bed Jack?” She ran her nails over his shoulder. “You were suggesting we try for more weren’t you?” She laughed softly and walked in the direction of the bedroom.
Watching Adelaide with the baby fascinated him. Bonding. There was no other word for it. He’d expected her to take a distant, ‘for science!’ approach to the whole thing, but it was gratifying to be wrong. That was so Addy, though, twisting his expectations into new shapes. Just when he had something figured out about her, he was wrong. Sometimes it was fun, sometimes scary.
“Yeah, I’ll put her in for a nap. But that was subtle of me, huh? Figured since Ava was a one in a million chance, we’d need to try a lot to do it again. Five, six times a day, maybe.”
His voice was raised slightly because he was walking behind her – intentionally. It was one of those ‘hate to see you go, love to watch you leave’ things. She about killed him with her backside as much as with her front.
Jack detoured to get the baby settled for her nap, which did nothing to stop him thinking about her ass. If he couldn’t see her, he thought about her. How she smelled, how she felt beneath his fingertips, how she looked. Everything from his nipples to his genitals tingled with blood.
Once Ava was comfortable and safe, he left for the bedroom. It wasn’t like this was their first time (although that had taken him no longer than an hour from laying eyes on her), but he still got giddy as a kid about it. He didn’t know if she or the blood had some kind of intoxicating effect on him, but if they did, it wasn’t much. Jack would want her anyway.
The door attested to his enthusiasm. There was a crack in the wood, several gouges, and one of the hinges was wobbly. Sometimes he opened the door too hard when he was excited.
“Addy, I–” He caught the door before it slammed open. The price was forgetting what he meant to say, but demonstration was better. Eyes fixed on her, he moved closer.
“Why are you still wearing something? We’ve gotta fix that.”
Without preamble or permission, he reached out cat-quick and lifted her in his arms, sneaking in a kiss. The pressure of her body against his got more blood pumping. North and south of Jack’s waist, heat sparked.
He tossed her onto the bed. Playfully, of course. She could stop him if she chose, and he knew damn well she could punish him, but that was a worry for when he could think past his hard-on. It was engorged with blood and straining to get at her.
Skin like cream, he loved it and reached for it. His fingers touched her face before moving down to grope for her breasts, rolling a cloth-covered nipple between his thumb and forefinger.
“Yeah, this isn’t working.” He yanked off all his garments, letting them fly wherever, then reached out with rough, greedy hands to work at hers.
“You’ll be the death of me someday, Adelaide. I’ll die of priaprism because I won’t get you out of your clothes in time.”
His comment of how many times a day might be needed to achieve another miracle made her laugh. He was quite a ridiculous man sometimes. She waited patiently while he put Ava down. Her eyebrow quirking up at his attempt to not break the door further. The question had her laughing again until she was drawn up into his arms and against the warmth of his body.
Jack seemed to run so much hotter than other people, but then he ate like a horse. The man was clearly more than human. She reminded herself that she wanted a sample of his blood to do some tests on it later. Definitely later.
She was tossed onto the bed and her hair pooled out around her. A little grin on her lips as she looked up at him, taking note of the way his pants were already straining and looking as though they were about to rip. He wasted no time before leaning over her and touching her. His fingers feeling almost like fire against her skin. A fire that burned in a pleasing way.
Adelaide leaned into the touches to her face, her lips brushing against his skin before his hands traveled down her body. A soft chuckle leaving her lips as he got more impatient. She enjoyed watching him hurry out of his clothing. Admiring his almost perfect body. She wondered briefly how many other soldiers came out of that program like this. The thought was forgotten when he commented on her clothing being in his way.
“Jack, I’m quite sure that won’t be the way I kill you.” There was mirth in her voice and she reached up to pull him down over her, pressing her lips against his and digging her nails into his shoulders. “Shhh.. just kiss me you brawny idiot.”
