THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF EXTREME SHIPPING: The ES are setting themselves up for the lows of the next iceburg

I’m beginning to think that many of the extreme shippers (ES) are in it for the drama. They go from ridiculous highs (created by their deliberately choosing to misread the things that Sam and Cait are doing) to ridiculous lows because they refuse to see the warning signs 

When they are on a high they feel that everything is right with the world. Sam and Cait are truly wonderful people. The ES trust that they are “special” in Sam’s and Cait’s eyes because they are the ones S & C send “breadcrumbs” to. Their joy knows no bounds.

And then the ship hits another iceberg (which it must because the ship isn’t real). Suddenly the ES are in the depths of despair or aflame with anger. They lash out at Sam and Cait for “leading them on” and they take their anger out on their probable SOs by calling them all sorts of names and spreading terrible rumors about them. They threaten to boycott the show and its products.

And then something happens that they interpret as a shipper “breadcrumb” and they are back sailing high again, as if nothing had happened.

It is a fascinating process that I have watched now for nearly two years.

They are on a self-created high now composed of blurry screenshots and slowed down and carefully framed gifs from the T2 premiere whose interpretations we NSTs have thoroughly debunked but which the ES cling to nonetheless. They are also reading into Sam’s retweet of the Popsugar article despite the fact that Sam is famous for giving fanservice with the assumption that it is “ridiculous” for any fan to “read into” his doing so. 

In the process of creating this fanfiction high for themselves by misreading everything, the ES are not paying attention to the warning signs of icebergs all around them. 

It makes me think they must like the highs and lows of the ship. 

I have no other explanation for it.
