The 'Mothers' of the country
“This country worships women.”
Yes, this country does worship women, as goddesses, mothers, sisters, wives.
“No, don’t hurt them, they are somebody’s mother, sister, or daughter,”
but never simply a human being with a body and a mind.
This country respects the titles, not the people who live with them.
It respects an idea of women, one shaped by patriarchy.
This country 'promises' protection,
yet she still clutches her keys while walking alone.
She still lets others walk ahead at night,
just to feel a little safer.
At every corner, every turn,
she doesn’t know where danger lies.
This country will burn a million candles for a victim
after turning a blind eye to every perpetrator.
Women are seen as idols,
until she steps out of the kitchen,
until she raises her voice,
until she speaks for herself .
This country worships women,
but not as humans.
Never as humans.
