I hate how forgotten Rogue One is. It’s genuinely one of the best Star Wars movies to date. The lead characters all manage to stand out as individuals with stories of their own and the ending is an emotional roller coaster. This movie took a semi-plothole from way back in ANH and spun a story that enriched the franchise incredibly. R1 is how a “dark” SW movie should be done, taking a twist to the classic format and making it more grounded in the true perils of war while retaining the core messages of hope and (found) family.
Spoilers, spoilers, spoilers ahead! So if you haven’t seen it yet, please, please, please stop reading!
Okay, you’ve been warned.
This what we know so far:
1. We know that the First Order’s army isn’t clones this time around, and we know that they were taken as children.
Stormtroopers in The Force Awakens are women and men. We heard Phasma mention that they have trained them since children and taught how to fight in the army. Finn also says he was taken from his parents at a young age.
2. We know that when Finn’s conscience is awakened that Kylo Ren takes notice (presumably through the Force), and Phasma also questions Finn after he gets back sensing a change in him.
We see Kylo stop as he is marching across the field and look directly at Finn. Later, when Kylo Ren is told that one of the Stormtroopers defected, he immediately knows which one it is. Phasma stops and questions Finn after he gets back. She says that this is his first “infraction”, which implies that other Stormtroopers have defected and that it is an ongoing issue for the First Order.
3. We know that when Rey (who we later learned is very strong with the Force) was placed on the planet of Jakku as a young child, presumably by her family, who have never returned.
4. We also know that there was something that happened at Luke’s Jedi Academy prior to the movie beginning, and Luke himself is referred to as “the last Jedi” in the rolling open.
This leads me to believe that the Stormtroopers in the First Order Army were in fact children who were Force-sensitive. I believe they were taken from their parents and rather than sending them to the Jedi Academy, which was destroyed at some point, they were drafted into the First Order Army. Rey’s parents, whoever they were (that I’m still undecided), hid her on Jakku to make sure she was not taken. This would also indicate to me that they knew she was very strong with the Force. This would also ensure that Luke could not take a padawan and train more Jedi.
I think this is also how Finn is awakened and that Kylo (and possibly Phasma to some extent) can sense the change and development of his conscience. This might also explain the fact that he can actually hit things when shooting a blaster or the guns on Millennium Falcon. (He is pretty excited when this happens.) This might also be why feels such a connection to Rey, as they are probably both drawn to the Lightside of the Force.
Every girl has had the experience where a creepy guy asks for our number and we don’t want to give it to him, but we also don’t want to get gutted in a back alley. “Give him a fake number!” I hear you call, okay and then he says “okay let me call you real quick!” Because they are learning. “Give them your number and then block them!” Okay and then they can plug it into something like Spokeo, pay $10 and know everything about you. So what do you do?
First pick a fake name, I use Jessica, then download the Google Voice app, hook it up to your email, pick a number, and set up a fake greeting with your fake name. You can set it to ring your actual phone like a normal call or text but they don’t have real info on you.

Vampires, Scones and Edmund Herondale (Bane) set in 1857. It’s how Will’s parents met and it gives a lot of insight into the Herondale family and the way their men behave when in love.
The Midnight Heir (Bane) set in 1903 (the year that Chain of Gold takes place in), starring Wessa, Jamie, Tatiana, Grace, and Magnus. It’s the most important in my opinion because it hints at the story’s main emotional conflict.

For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and ‘earn’ one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in. I walked away because I knew once I signed that contract, Scott Borchetta would sell the label, thereby selling me and my future. I had to make the excruciating choice to leave behind my past. Music I wrote on my bedroom floor and videos I dreamed up and paid for from the money I earned playing in bars, then clubs, then arenas, then stadiums.
Some fun facts about today’s news: I learned about Scooter Braun’s purchase of my masters as it was announced to the world. All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years.
Like when Kim Kardashian orchestrated an illegally recorded snippet of a phone call to be leaked and then Scooter got his two clients together to bully me online about it. (See photo) Or when his client, Kanye West, organized a revenge porn music video which strips my body naked. Now Scooter has stripped me of my life’s work, that I wasn’t given an opportunity to buy. Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.
This is my worst case scenario. This is what happens when you sign a deal at fifteen to someone for whom the term ‘loyalty’ is clearly just a contractual concept. And when that man says ‘Music has value’, he means its value is beholden to men who had no part in creating it.
When I left my masters in Scott’s hands, I made peace with the fact that eventually he would sell them. Never in my worst nightmares did I imagine the buyer would be Scooter. Any time Scott Borchetta has heard the words ‘Scooter Braun’ escape my lips, it was when I was either crying or trying not to. He knew what he was doing; they both did. Controlling a woman who didn’t want to be associated with them. In perpetuity. That means forever.
Thankfully, I am now signed to a label that believes I should own anything I create. Thankfully, I left my past in Scott’s hands and not my future. And hopefully, young artists or kids with musical dreams will read this and learn about how to better protect themselves in a negotiation. You deserve to own the art you make.
I will always be proud of my past work. But for a healthier option, Lover will be out August 23.
Imo the “bad boy who’s only nice secretly/after you get through his layers” trope in media functions as propaganda designed to get you to second guess yourself and your experiences in order to give bad men a chance. Some things need to be taken at face value and if he treats people like shit he is in fact a bad person even if he’s nice to you sometimes. Stop looking for hidden meaning and depth in his actions. He’s not misunderstood he’s just an asshole and it’s not your job to shovel through the shit to get to the disappointing “good” parts
