just remembered all over again how this happened and then seemingly had no impact on their relationship because mike went on to ignore and dismiss Will for the next 2 seasons and they didn't even have the decency to put this moment into Mike's trauma montage that played when Vecna was being killed

Byler and Jennifer Hayes

Is it just me or did Jennifer Hayes already hint to Byler in season 1? Beyond her ironically being named Hayes (maybe a reference to the Hays Code) her supposed grief for Will parallels Mike's. Mike cries for Will in the night after seeing the (fake) body, running off and only crying in front of Karen. But Jennifer, this random girl, cries openly at his funeral when he's hidden in the coffin and had barely talked to Will, if at all. It's like she's the censor for everyone to cover up how intimate Mike's grief was, as grief for Will becomes a comedic point from the boys POV after discovering Will is still alive.

Will being an Observer

Since the show started from Will being missing and carries on through him constantly dealing with more and more because of the Mindflayer and Vecna, I want to share a hc I have of Will! Will's an observer, he notices small details people tend to overlook. As an artist it's helpful in his work, but if he hadn't been taken etc. I feel he would've been a character who would step away from the bigger picture the rest of the group would work on an obsess or think about smaller things they've overlooked (when he wasn't experiencing the worst luck in the narrative). It's interesting to think about Will finding more about Henry by prying into his past when everyone else focuses just on what Vecna's future plan is; Will would have gone alone/ initiated searching to see if any hints in Henry's past and records would be helpful. He might have gone to find Patty Newby for information, using Bob being with his mother to get closer to her (and consequently bring her up to Vecna when he finds out they were romantically involved, or finding out how similarly he and Henry were treated in Hawkins).

Cleradin AU where the party thinks Will’s healing only works via kisses.

Anytime anyone gets banged up in a fight, Will gives them a little smooch on the afflicted area and bam, heals right up.

Until one day where Max gets real hurt in a scuffle and Will is just kinda cradling her in his arms. Somehow, despite only muttering the incantations, all her wounds close. No kisses required.

Turns out, Will just heals people by touching them. Dumbasses never figured it out because Will kissed all Mike’s boo-boos to heal them when they were kids and everyone just went along with it.

Bonus points if Mike DID figure out the truth at some point but hid it so he could still get kisses from Will, despite his inner rage when Will had to kiss anyone else.
