I have the utmost respect for Manizeh, and perhaps, I admire her even more than I do my own flesh and blood. For some time, I had wished us to be friends. I wonder whether her aspirations prevent her from accessing such simple pleasures, as they have done for me.”

“... Ah, Lady Luxelen Larkspur; I used to be in awe of this woman and her pretentious grandeur. I sought after her prestige, her delightful frivolity and the respect she ‘supposedly’ demanded from everyone and she did so with a smile and perhaps, false politeness. However, I have since realised that Luxelen does not warrant respect at all. She is as flawed and imperfect as every nobleman and woman, and commoner alike. And frankly, while I have committed some unforgivable acts and have made some heinous decisions...- I dare say that I command more respect than she.”

Is your character more concerned with defending their honor, or protecting their status?

“I have no status,” she answered. “Therefore, I cannot possibly be concerned with protecting something that does not exist.” Evelyne drooped her head and brushed her chin against the ironed collar pressed down against her buttoned jacket. Her chestnut waves caressed her cheek as she strolled through Beetletun’s bustling town square. 

She carried a woven wicker basket filled to the brim with wildflowers and locally procured fruit. Occasionally, Evelyne grasped her friend’s wrist and drew her companion to a nearby stall to peruse the Wintersday gifts. Papa would like that, she thought and plucked a few pieces of coin from her purse to enact an exchange with the vendor. She delicately placed the handmade figurine, poignantly carved and fashioned into a farmer, within her basket between the daises and helleborus’. 

“How do you define honor?” She asked and strolled slowly beside her friend. “For me,” she chimed, “honor is about integrity. I would certainly rather defend my own honor and the honor of others, especially when they are morally right because that is right, is it not?” Evelyne’s companion bat her lids rapidly and quirked her brow, glaring at the young woman with a curious glower. Evelyne laughed and cupped her mouth. 

“You know what I mean! I could not bare to be accused of being or daring to do something morally wrong. It goes against the very sanctity of what I believe in.”

What is/was your character’s relationship with their mother like?

Dearest Mother,

I hope that you are relishing in your extended stay in Elona. I know how you have so longed to reinvigorate the Aelos silk trade, particularly in Vabbi. In the absence of Palawa Joko (the God-King), I imagine that the Domain of Vabbi and its royal citizenry are more than willing to welcome your products and pursue business ventures with yourself and our relatives. How riveting. Do tell father that I miss his company and our regular afternoon engagements at Sagehaven. However, I am glad that he has joined you in Elona after such a prolonged separation. I am sure that you both ‘reacquainted’ by now. 

On a serious note, I do not wish to alarm you; however, cousin Mallory has taken it upon herself to designate herself as ‘Matriarch’ of House Valen in both my absence and father’s preoccupation in Elona. As delighted as I am that you’ve both been able to rekindle your marriage, father is needed to contend with this ridiculous brood we call ‘family’. 

I should love to update you further with my own antics, but you would hardly be proud, so I shall not bother. 

Talk with father or at least encourage him to write to me personally.

Joined by her husband, Enia opened her daughter’s letter with her painted nail and scanned the cursive lettering printed on the parchment with black ink. In parts, black smudges and grey blemishes soiled the letter. Enia scowled and shook her head, massaging her thumb against the inside of her taut palm. As she read through Viola’s letter, she rolled her eyes and idly caressed her husband’s thigh. Enia’s brows furrowed as she raised the letter to her nose and fixated obsessively on a few distinct lines. She huffed and crumpled the paper within her palm. 

“What is it?” He asked. 

“Our daughter would see you return to Kryta without me,” she admitted, having spun Viola’s words. “Little Mallory has taken ‘reign’ and Viola (of course) is not pleased.” 

Enia paused, shaking her head before continuing, “I thought we raised a bright child, my darling?”
