Plot #31

Inspired by “If I Stay.”

MUSE A and MUSE B have never met before. They’ve lived in the same town for years now, but have never crossed paths. That’s about to change.

One snowy, icy day, both MUSE A and MUSE B are in the car with their family or friends. Through no fault of either of the drivers, the cars skid on the ice and collide in a bloody, violent car wreck. MUSE A's entire car, except for MUSE A themselves, are dead by the time the ambulance get there. Most of MUSE B's car is dead as well, except for MUSE B and one other person, who is in critical condition. MUSE A and MUSE B both find themselves having an out-of-body experience. Their bodies teeter between life and death, while their spirits, visible to no one but each other, watch the scene.

MUSE A and MUSE B both follow their bodies to the hospital. The other survivor in MUSE B's car is taken to a different hospital, leaving MUSE B in the dark as to what’s happening to them. Both MUSE A and MUSE B have other relatives and friends show up to the hospital, and can only watch and listen to them worry, and discuss what will happen—including what’s happening to the other survivor in MUSE B's car. 

MUSE A and MUSE B realize they have a choice—whether to join their loved ones in death or live with their grief. MUSE A, devastated by their loss of their loved ones, is considering just letting go and dying. MUSE B, still hopeful that their one remaining loved one is still alive, is determined to hold on and live.

Visible to only one another, the two are forced to decide: do they leave, or do they stay?

Options:

MUSE B finds out that the other person in their car has also died, and then considers giving up. 

MUSE A finally finds the will to keep living.

They both stay.

One stays, the other leaves.

They leave, and decide to go into the light together.

you could be sad about your otp but consider:

one making awful breakfast for the other and the other eating it because they appreciate it that much

one putting their ridiculous music on in the car and singing along while the other sits in the passenger seat with their head in their hands

the two of them going down to the beach and one getting sunburned really badly so the other slathers them with aloe gel when they get home

one getting home from work later than the other and stretching out on top of them like a big lazy cat while they sit on the couch in front of the tv

one inexplicably bringing home an animal and refusing to drop it at the shelter so they and the other have to take care of it

the both of them going out to a park and getting ice cream to sit with and eat on a bench

one sending memes to the other while they’re at work so much they turn their phone off in exasperation

one giving the other their jacket and not getting it back from the other until it stops smelling like them
