I just learned about this recently from a Viking reenactor! Indigo dye isn't blue until it oxidizes, so when you dye with indigo your cloth or thread doesn't come out of the water blue, it comes out and then reacts with the oxygen in the air and seems to spontaneously turn blue in front of your eyes. It's a really cool process to witness.

Fun fact, the reason that Nova Scotia looks like a solid white blob is because at one time we had 187 lighthouses. Each had a unique light (colour, flash/solid pattern, etc.) and unique fog horn, so that fishermen could know where they were in the dark or the fog without other navigation aids.

As an archaeologist in Nova Scotia, I’ve even done work on multiple historic lighthouses, some on uninhabited islands, where a boat dropped me and a construction crew off each day!

A note, because not everyone knows this: if you're driving and another driver flashes their brights at you, this is a signal to be on alert and slow down. There may be debris in the road, a cop out of sight, or an animal crossing ahead of you. (Or, alternatively, your brights are on and they're getting blinded.) Whatever the reason, it's a signal that you need to focus and reduce speed. And possibly turn your own brights off.

for real though, if you don't translate it, you should transcribe the original language. if a bilingual viewer can understand what they're saying just from listening, then a bilingual viewer who relies on subtitles should also be able to understand those lines.
