Remember when the other toys from Toy Story were actually included in the plot and learned to work as a team with each movie?

Crazy how the only relevant plot point to come out of Vaggie being revealed as a former Exorcist angel is Alastor being able to make a deal with Charlie when she’s in a vulnerable position and it could’ve easily been rewritten so that she wanted to be left alone after the Heaven court hearing went haywire and ended with Adam threatening to go after her and the hotel next so the only revenant thing to come of that plot twist and it wouldn’t be hard to write around it.

They only bring up Vaggie being an exorcist when it's convenient or when they need drama between her and Charlie.

And doing it this way doesn't make Alastor look smart in being able to turn the tides in his favor, it was just right place and right time. I would expect Alastor to be able to manipulate people on his own and NOT through the help of some outside source.

It’s so embarrassing to see these ADULT characters act more like immature teenagers in high school rather than the fully grown adults they’re supposed to be.

Like the whole smear campaign in Season 2 was LITERAL high school bullshit you see in Degrassi!

I stopped watching Alex Meyers for a while now because the amount of jokes he’d make about stalking women has gotten to a point where it just felt weird, I wouldn’t have minded if he did it once or twice but the sheer amount started feeling like they were no longer just jokes so the recent Obsession drama and learning that he has been divorced twice doesn’t surprise me one bit.

Oh and I was JUST thinking of coming on here to talk about that.

In preparation for this, I actually went ahead and watched the movie for myself. And it was pretty good. The acting was good, the suspense and scary moments were good. And Bear is an Incel POS that deserved every bad thing that happened to him in the movie. Nikki has my full sympathy as she was a victim to Bear's selfishness and now her life is ruined because of it.

With that being said, I highly recommend seeing this movie for yourself as it is that good of a movie. And to see just how utter bullshit Alex's review on it is.

Now as of writing this both his review and apology video got taken down, but luckily there IS a reupload so I can be able to talk it.

But before we get into this. I'm laying this out real quick that just because Alex's actions are wrong, that doesn't mean you should go and harass him for it. There have been reports of people sending him death threats and such and that is not okay to do. What you can do is just don't engage with him or his content, and again, don't go harass the guy.

"Warning, this video is an attempt at a good faith, nuanced look at the fictional movie Obsession and the characters there in. Which will probably upset some of you... for some reason."

Uh huh, yeah sure. Upset is one way of putting it given the things you say in this video.

"Bear, get out while you still can. But then again, Nikki is a hot Latina, so one can only remain strong for so long."

"So, here we get a look who Nikki is. And she seems like she's kind of one of those girls who's like those like ballbuster types, you know? She's always like, "Heh! Bet you can't handle all this. I've never met a guy who can keep up with me." And then they just lay there like Spongebob."

"So Bear's choices are crystal mommy and septum girl. So this dude never stood a chance. Like you might as well put that Chasity Belt in your Amazon cart right now, my dude."

"Oh, crystal mommy and the writer. Well, something tells me this movie would have gone the same way for Bear, whether he made the wish or not."

Just hearing him say these things about these girls, KNOWING what happens to them in the movie is just pretty gross. Also the way he draws the female characters compared to the male characters is also very telling.

Oh but it gets worse...

"So, as you can see, Nikki is starting to act a little out of character. She's saying things that don't make sense. She also demands to go over to his house to spend the night."

"And you know, to Bear's credit, he's not immediately jumping at the chance to take advantage of her or whatever. Like, he gives her privacy in space. He doesn't want to make it weird. He turns around when she takes her shirt off. And like, based on what people were saying about this movie online, I expected Bear to be this like horribly angry, misogynistic incel dude, right? But like up until this point, he's just some super socially awkward loser who has a crush on a girl and he uses a $7 wishing toy that he assumes is not going to work. And then when Nikki starts acting like this, he's very confused and put off by it."

That's what the movie WANTS you to think, but as it goes on it starts to get obvious that Bear is not as this "socially awkward but well meaning guy" as he appears to be.

"I don't know why you're making this face. You wanted the Crystal Mommy Latina experience, and you got the Crystal Mommy Latina experience."

Uhh, what the fuck Alex? You should know that by this point the way Nikki's behaving is because of the wish. Why the fuck are you saying this other than to be the "haha funny content reviewer"?

And then he goes on this yap fest of trying to give Bear "plausible deniability" and just overall trying to rationalize Bear's actions. So instead of putting all of it in one sentence, we're gonna tackle it piece by piece.

"Now, okay, up to this point, I feel like Bear has plausible deniability. I mean, there's no way he would have known the cheap toy would work, he was genuinely concerned for Nikki the day after it started and he refused to take advantage of her even when it was like presented to him, right? I mean, she kissed him after all, right?"

Alex, what the fuck are you talking about? That's literally the bare minimum, why're you giving credit for bare minimum?

And she kissed him? Buddy, you DO know that she was under control of the wish this whole time right? You say Bear refused to take advantage of the situation but since Nikki was out of it because of the wish taking control of her, acting akin to someone under the influence or high or having mental problems. If he really didn't want to take advantage of the situation, he would've backed off from any advances she makes and go to sleep on the couch. End of story.

How can you say he refused to take advantage of her and say she kissed him NOW KNOWING that she was under the wish's influence?

"Now, right here though, at the halfway point of the movie, he does finally start to realize that the wish actually worked. But like even then, like literally every romcom is about trying to find a way to get the other person to like you or you manufacture a meet cute or whatever, right? Like it seems a bit of common threads where it's like "He only saw her as an object and wanted to remove her autonomy. That's why he made that wish!" But like like he didn't wish that she would do whatever he wanted or "I wish that she would become obsessed with me and me only." He specifically wish that Nikki would love him more than anyone which is literally what everyone who's ever had a crush on wants. Like every single fanfic about like "Golly gee I sure wish One Direction would kidnap me and fall in love with me all at the same time." Like as if half the girls who saw this movie haven't wished the exact same thing before."

Alex. This movie isn't a fucking romcom. It's a movie meant to represent how the nice guy mentality can be dangerous for women.

Regardless if he didn't know the wish would actually work or not, that doesn't change the fact that it gets revealed that he didn't know she wanted to be a writer or has an estranged relationship with her dad. That shows he doesn't even know anything about Nikki and reinforces the fact that he was only in love with the Nikki he imagined her to be and not the real Nikki.

And as for the "girls who saw this movie haven't wished the exact same thing before." There's a difference between wanting someone to like you and making someone like you. People who wish to have their crush reciprocated WOULDN'T wish for them to love them more than anyone else, they still have family and people they care for. So for you to say this to make the people that watch this movie seem hypocritical is... a choice.

"Like you have to look at the context. Okay. If Bear had gone to the store specifically and be like "Hey do you have something that'll force a girl to fall in love with me?" Or if he like search on the internet for some kind of like weird ritual that's going to make anyone fall in love with you then yeah that's some funky funky stuff man. Or like later on we find out that maybe Ian and Nikki have been hooking up, right? But Bear doesn't learn this until the very end of the movie. So like for example, if he found this out at the beginning of the movie and he was like, "Oh, so Nick is just some slut that bangs every guy except me, huh? Well, I'll show you." Then yeah, he'd be like some misogynistic incel."

"But for at least half of the movie, he has no idea that this would work. And in fact, he's concerned for Nikki when she does change. To me at least, it totally seems like a fanfic or whatever that he thinks would have no way of actually coming true. I'm not saying Bear is a blameless innocent victim, okay? But I think some of you are a little too quick to attach motivation and subtext to this character that is not based on the movie. Like it really seems like some of you want him to be a horrible, incel, intentionally malicious guy regardless of what actually happens in the movie."

No, there is no maybe that Ian and Nikki were hooking up. It was literally confirmed by Serah. Were you even paying attention to the movie?

"I'm not saying Bear is a blameless innocent victim" Okay, then why're you spending so much time trying to defend him then? Like if you actually paid attention to the "subtext" of the movie you brushed off, you would start to see that Bear is not that good of a guy to begin with. He left the pills out for his cat Sandy to get into, he didn't even bother trying to learn more about Nikki despite claiming to love her, and even after learning that the wish worked and that was why Nikki was acting so strange, he still took advantage of the situation as long as it still benefitted him. To which you suspiciously left out the rape scene that happens after the dinner.

"Even the guy who played Bear himself said this about the character."

To which he ends up quoting what Bear's actor says during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

I never thought of Bear as a villain, but what really drew me to this story was the gray morals of it all. Bear has good in him and he has bad in him, like all of us. I do think that he leans more toward the bad in a lot of ways. Fully, the antagonist, though? I don’t think I would say fully, because the key thing is he didn’t know that the wish was going to work. Sure, his desires were incredibly selfish. Totally, 100 percent, but he didn’t know the wish was gonna work.

"And you have to assume that this guy was in close talks with the writer director of the movie the whole time. So basically, both of them are saying that Bear is meant to be ambiguous and you all are just over here like "no!" Like are you all equally upset about the Disney Channel original movie Zapped or 16 wishes? Because fundamentally, these are all the same movie. Like remember Descendants one Mal cast a spell that made Ben fall in love with her. Where's all the Red Threads about that? I don't see no 2-hour video essays."

There is so much wrong with this.

Okay first off. You're using that interview to support your take that Bear isn't a bad guy, yet when looking at OTHER interviews he was in, he says this.

There was even a fact about the movie that was revealed that the director of Obsession, Curry Baker, was offered and declined 2 million dollars to rewrite Bear into being the hero of the story. You basically took the only interview that supports your take and assume the director also thinks the same.

BOTH OF WHICH HAVE CONFIRMED THAT BEAR IS NOT A GOOD PERSON!

And woooow, way to throw shade at Disney movies, movies that were made for children and preteens while the movie we're talking about is rated R. And the motives and intent between Bear and Mal are COMPLETELY different when you think about it for more than five seconds.

Mal is the daughter of a villain, she was tasked to find Fairy Godmother's wand and learned that a way to obtain it is if she's with Ben. So she conjures up a love spell to make him fall for her, but as Mal gets development, she learns that what she did to him was not okay and made the brownie to free him. It's definitely more selfless than Bear has ever been in this movie.

Like fuck off with those bullshit comparisons.

"I found this comment in a Reddit thread that puts it so perfectly, so I'm just going to read part of it."

But remember, this sub attracts the most obsessed fans of the movie. They flex about watching it at the theater like 10 times already. They make several posts a day about it. They make crazy overanalysis and theories that have no ground in the reality of the film, etc. It's not just a movie for them. They're incredibly emotionally invested and attached to an unhealthy degree. It's almost cultish at this point, and people who are crowdedly online or addicted to a piece of media aren't the most emotionally stable or media literate to begin with. So, a lot of it comes from an emotional standpoint. Hence the refusal to engage with the material in good faith and just making it say what they want the movie to say in an over the top sanctimonious dogmatic way. It's like a ritual for them, a catharsis.

Well I wouldn't call that reading part of it but go off I guess.

But seriously? You sourced Reddit for your thesis? WHY?! And yes, there are people that are like that, I've seen the TADC fandom. But this movie isn't part of it. I don't wanna sound parasocial or anything, but it seems to me that you're hung-up on a breakup and are kind of projecting onto Bear a little too much that's preventing you from seeing the perspective of women that has dealt with a Bear in their lives.

The fact that you're trying so hard to give Bear benefit of the doubt and how long you spent trying to say otherwise is kind of off-putting.

"Now, just to be clear, I'm not defending all of Bear's actions, okay? Because at this point in the movie, he knows the wish and he knows the real Nikki's soul is like trapped or whatever. But he keeps on dating her and tries to like continue on as if this isn't the most horrible situation anyone could imagine. Although, to be fair, what is he supposed to do? Cuz if he breaks up with her, she's going to hunt him down. And the only other choice, as we learned, is that the spell will break if he dies."

And there's also the other option of killing Nikki.

"Now, this is another part I've seen so many posts about that I find so baffling. Like I've literally seen people say like if Bear truly loved Nikki, he would have killed her when she asked cuz like it's just that easy, you know? And then what? He goes to prison for life. Obviously, he doesn't want to do that. Also, it's well established in this movie that he's like a low self-esteem, probably depressed loser guy. So, of course, he's not going to suddenly do this completely out of character thing. Now, that being said, his reaction to this is very telling, though."

Bear: What would be so bad? What's so bad about being with me?

"Okay, there. See, I was trying to be fair, okay? And then you go and you say that like like maybe everyone's right about you, you know. And this is further solidified when he knows it's not the real Nikki and he knows the real Nikki is trapped, but he still keeps going on like this. But this also brings up another interesting thematic element of the movie, I guess, which is like people are saying, you know, if he truly loved Nikki, then he would do this incredibly selfless thing for her. But remember, his wish was not that Nikki would become obsessed with him. He wished that she would love him. So why isn't her love for him as selfless as you're claiming that his love for her should be? You know what I'm saying?"

No, I don't, because what you're saying isn't making any sense. So to cover a few things.

At this point in the movie he's seen just how much Nikki is suffering because of the wish he made, how scared she is when she gains control for a short time. If he really DID love her, he would've gone through with one of those options especially after seeing just how much distress the wish was causing her. If he really did love her, he would've done whatever means necessary to free her REGARDLESS of the consequences. But he doesn't, because he's an insecure incel who would rather try to make this craziness work than be alone.

Also, that last part you said. Are you literally implying that Nikki should've killed herself so Bear wouldn't have to make the sacrifice? Did you even read the script before keeping it in the video? Did you not once think how this could sound like to other people?

Now don't get me wrong, I hope this isn't what he's probably saying at all, but goddamn did you needed to do a double take on that as that sounds like the case.

"Again, I'm not saying Nikki is the bad guy or Bear is some like blameless victim or whatever. I'm just saying there's many ways you could look at this movie."

What other ways? The director made it pretty clear as to how this movie is supposed to be seen. It's meant to be a way of showing how detrimental the nice guy mentality can be to women, how men are more than okay with taking away their autonomy as long as they can get the girl at the end of the day. There are also subtle hints in the movie to show that Bear was not all that great that you either missed, or intentionally left out so you can try to paint Bear as a better person than he actually is.

"So the very end of the movie, Nikki has killed Sarah and Ian. Bear realizes that there's no way out of this unless he dies. So he eats all the rest of his grandma's Flintstone vitamins by Zoom and dies in the arms of Nikki, who is finally freed from the spell."

That. Is literally incorrect in terms of why he chose to do that.

He decided to overdose on the pills because the wish was at a point where he was no longer benefitting from it. He would've kept this shit going if he could actually control Nikki. And even when he had the gun and took the pills, he STILL wanted to live as he's still a spineless wimp that doesn't wanna die of loneliness.

And the only reason he didn't threw up the pills was because Nikki made a wish with the last Wish Willow for Bear to love her, which allowed the pills to take effect and kill him... Leaving Nikki to deal with the consequences of her friends being dead around her.

"Now, again, I need to be very clear here, okay? Ultimately, Bear is the bad guy. He doesn't know what he did until late in the movie, but when he figures it out, he just keeps on rationalizing to himself because like he wants Nikki and he doesn't seem to really care that she's being tortured the whole time, but rather he wants the demon to just act like Nikki so that he can pretend that he's actually dating Nikki. You know, like this is a bad dude. Yes, absolutely. Nikki is completely innocent. Her life is forever ruined because of some depressed, selfish loser guy. Okay. Yes. Like like that's the outcome of the movie. But how we get to that point, I think, is a lot more nuanced than a lot of you were giving the movie credit for."

As much as I wanna believe you saying this Alex, you saying this feels more like a copout considering how you spent a good portion of your video basically saying "Bear isn't a bad guy, he didn't assault her immediately after making the wish, he's just an socially awkward loser!"

Overall... this was a horrible take on Obsession. From the constant coddling of Bear, to the weird and sexual remarks he makes about NIkki, to just flat-out altering scenes to make Bear look better. Yeah this video deserved every ounce of backlash it got.

Now he DID make an apology video regarding his review, I didn't watch it because I had a feeling the apology wasn't all that good. But when I went to check on his channel, both videos are now gone.

I hope he takes this as a big learning experience on being more careful about choosing the movies he reviews, change the way he tells jokes and finding better ways to review things. But only time will tell and if his public reputation will ever recover from this.

But it seems like the damage has already been done...

What make characters like Jax work while Stolas doesn't work to you?

Well you see it's very simple.

The reason why I personally believe Jax works is that it's easy to see the show DOESN'T coddle and woobify Jax, the narrative doesn't absolve them of their mistakes and makes it clear that the way she acts is destructive and unhealthy not only to her, but to those around her as well. And unlike Stolas, Jax DOES receive consequences when he acts up. Such as getting tied up in the Haunted House episode, becoming a vegan, getting punished in the fast food episode, being left alone by the others. And when he does act out of line, the other characters call him out on it.

And her backstory is more of a way to humanize Jax rather than to make us feel bad for him or say he was always a good person. It gives us insight of how and why they turned out how we see them now, it doesn't justify or excuse her. It doesn't have the characters forgiving Jax.

Jax's story is a cautionary tale, and how he ends up in the end is symbolic of how not allowing yourself to heal and open up can destroy you.

But the way Stolas is handled, yeah he's way worse.

Helluva Boss shields Stolas from taking any form of accountability or realization that he's a horrible person. He doesn't really change at all throughout Season 1 and 2 and is treated as the one whose had it the hardest out of the cast. (He really didn't up until Sinsmas but even that is debatable with how he actually kind of benefits from it.)

And when we get to his backstory, it was clearly written to make us feel bad for him and to lay blame on other characters for how he turned out as an adult. It was all a contrived way to explain away how Stolas and Blitz met and hook up to where it feels more like a cringy Wattpad fanfic than anything.

And as the show goes on, it becomes abundantly clear that Stolas is a Writer's Pet in how the writers never let him be in the wrong, have the other characters apologize to HIM, His misery always being the fault of someone else and not from his own hand, and how he's just magically given everything he wanted without needing to actually sacrifice anything or work for it. And we all know Octavia is going to forgive him so once again Stolas doesn't have to really own up to anything.

In conclusion, I say Jax is better written compared to Stolas since he actually faces consequences for how she acts throughout the show and giving us a legitimate backstory that doesn't excuse him. While Stolas doesn't face any consequences and his backstory was obviously included for pity points and to have people think Stolitz was always meant to be.

Okay I know I said I wasn’t gonna talk about Sai anymore, but… this is just pathetic.

This is almost as worse as her dogging on Arteice for 8 hours and that one Helluva Boss video about how the female characters are written and treated. Does she really just see any video criticizing these shows as just hate with no substance?

Don’t take this post as a sign for a full google doc on covering this stream, but Imma just say this.

Charlie is essentially the most wasted and useless main character I’ve ever seen for any show, there are SERIOUS problems with how the writers treat her and how her actions makes her come across as performative, disingenuous, and self serving because she wants her mom to come back with the milk.

She COULD have been a compelling and endearing MC if the writers cared enough to have her be more involved instead of being sidelined in her OWN SHOW! She could’ve been the shining example for her people if the writers didn’t have her be just as bad. The way they wrote her makes her look like an immature woman baby who’s so out of touch with her surroundings that I’m surprised she even still has people in her life.

So Spindlehorse had enacted a new policy that prevents its employees from selling their own Helluverse merch. Though I’m not sure if this also includes fan merch from non-employees as well.

But regardless, like… are they TRYING to tank their studio at this point? This is especially shitty considering how these employees are also underpaid so with this new policy in place, that’s just leaves one less option for them to even make ends meat.

Viv made alistor black retroactively I think just to shut up people saying its racist over him using voodoo. When she could have just reminded people he's a serial killer cannibal who sold his soul to a evil demon for purely self serving reasons. He's evil. He's in hell. He's from the south during the jim crow era. He's not gonna give a shit about the moral or ethical concerns over using vodou. He sees a potential source of power he can exploit and that's all he cares about. But doing so would make it harder for people to justify liking him or whatever. Kinda like how angel dust in the pilot was clearly a selfish a hole and a terrible person instead of a pure victim he is now.

You see, THAT would help reinforce to people how vile this character is supposed to be and someone who CLEARLY deserves to be in Hell. And him getting knocked down a peg would feel more earned and satisfying.

Vivzie refusing to go all out on making these characters absolutely horrible people learning to be better is what's holding the premise of the show back, they're more soft-bad. We're TOLD they're horrible people but we never get any that isn't cringy, forced, corny, or eventually woobified because the writers got attached to certain characters.

If you're going to write a show placed in Hell, make the citizens and the more antagonistic characters the evil and horrible people they are instead of just soft-edgy.

I never got how Alastor was black/black coded, he never did as a black woman myself. Never watched any of Vivzie’s garbage but her “black” characters always felt like she just called them black for easy brownie points and not cause she actually cares and bothers to make a good black character.

Alastor always read to me as a white man, him being black felt forced to me. Nothing about him feels black/black coded.

A while back during one of Vivzie's streams she DID draw a human alastor.

Definitely not a good look considering what she's done to this character in Season 2, and like you said, feeling like she only made him black for brownie points. Not because him being black would add on to his character and provide more nuance and depth to his story, but because people got onto her for having him use voodoo magic even though it's a closed practice.

Now him being black CAN work, it's just the way Vivzie and the writers wrote and handled it is what ruins it in the show.

I’m not a show runner, nor am I a writer for TV shows, but I would think you’d want to come prepared regarding your show’s overall plot. Like even if you think you won’t make it past one season, you still have some more material on standby just in case you DO get greenlit for more seasons.

Viv really should’ve had a plan going in so that it doesn’t seem like she’s constantly pulling stuff out of her ass when it comes to her shows.

This is why I believe she had nothing planned even though she had spent five years trying to get it off the ground.

You would think she would've had the story figured out by then, and you would think even if she only got one season, she would try to make it the best season ever and not just put all her eggs in the basket.

Shows like TADC, Gravity Falls, and Avatar are able to stand as great shows because the story feels planned out. There was foreshadowing and moments that made sense, and when it got to the ending it felt earned.

And whatever ending Hazbin Hotel has, it most likely won't feel earned or satisfying.

With Vaggie being the hotel’s protector and Lucifer mending things with Charlie in “More Than Anything” Alastor’s existence has become so obsolete that season two has to bend over backwards by making everyone dumb so Vox can be a threat to justify Alastor being important in the finale of the season because he’s no longer the reason Husk and Niffty want to stay and work at the hotel as evidenced by them wanting to stay behind and protect it in season 1, episode 7 despite Vaggie giving them an out before she came back with the angelic steel weapons, he now feels like those memes you see about people trying to shoehorn their OCs in a series they don’t fit in.

This perfectly explains how I felt after seeing Episode 4 of Season 2, at this point Alastor's purpose and role in the story is now null because of Lucifer coming into the picture. Vaggie is so-so since he was the one protecting the hotel more than she ever did.

At this point, considering they didn't even bother to try and rescue him from Vox if they're supposed to be a found family, he should've been like "Fuck all y'all" and become a full villain.

He could be a villain to call out the cast on their hypocrisy and double standards on things, have them realize they're not as close as they act and how often they fail each other. Just something to give him that bite back that's been missing since the Pilot days.

Pans in Helluva, a rapist, annoying character that should stay dead, and Blitz.

As someone who used to identify as Pan before realizing I was actually Demi, it is annoying to see.

Vivzie for some reason sees being Pan as the same as being hypersexual, which is NOT even close to what being Pan is actually like. Now I am not saying that Pan people can't experience hypersexuality, but the way it's portrayed in these shows just comes off as in poor taste in how often it happens.

The following characters that are Pan are: Blitz, Valentino, Verosika, Ozzie, and of course Chaz. And what do these characters have in common? They're sex fiends or someone whose occupation revolves around having a lot of sex.

Now to be fair, not ALL the Pan characters are like this (Husk, Lucifer and Bee aren't shown to be that overly sexual.) But it still doesn't erase how they're outnumbered by the characters who openly express how much they wanna bone people or are associated with the act.

And no, I'm not shaming anyone who happens to be Pan and are overtly sexual. I'm just saying in context of the Pan representation and how it portrays people who happen to be Pan, I think it's in poor taste to show Pan people this way and they deserve better than this.

... This synopsis has made me afraid for what direction they might take for Puzzles' character.

Because judging from what happened in WOTFI 2025, one would assume he succeeded in changing for the better at the end. But this relapse would make Mr. Puzzles' ENTIRE arc in SMG4 feel redundant and like it barely mattered at all.

Now I can see this relapse working if he's gonna be made into an Anti Hero of sorts. Someone who does bad things to be considered a villain to most people, but is doing them for the right reasons. That way you can have him and whoever joins him do villainous shenanigans without it feeling like you're resetting his character back to square one.

Maybe this feeling will change once a full trailer releases to get an understanding of what to expect, I just hope I'm wrong about this.
