So, here's another drawing that has been rotting in a drawer for some time (I think since 2024 😅)

I really enjoyed the costume design and visual cinematography of Poor Things. Yet, after having read the novel by Alasdair Gray, I was truly sad that Lanthimos' adaptation lost a lot of the emotional depth of the original story. Especially the original story's ending changes how one interprets the entire plot.

I'd truly recommend giving Gray's novel a chance. During the last semester I lent my personal copy to one of my English lecturers and she was truly delighted. Additionally, I'd once again recommend watching the video essay by @finalgirldigital as I truly enjoyed her interpretation of the story. Mind you that the essay contains spoilers for the movie adaptation as well as the ending of the novel.

I do not want to engage in shipping wars here. This drawing has been rotting in a sketch book for two years now and posting it is long overdue. When I drew this only the first season was out.

I also haven't had time to watch season three yet, so my apologies 😓

The reference pictures for the dresses are both taken from Pinterest. I did change the arms of Alicent's dress because I really suck at drawing folds on clothes.

I also struggled with Alicent's facial expression, which is why I had to redraw it. Unfortunately, the finished lineart I did with a black fine liner turned blue ?!

Poetry: Longing

There are few things as prevalent to me as the urge to injure. Never to injure other people, not animals either, not plants if I can avert it.

The urge that surges through my veins, that seizes every last neurone in my body, until it is all I can think about. I do not perform this act with the intention to terminate my puny existence, since if I wanted to do this my approach would be a different one.

I act upon my urges, these all consuming notions, because I think I truly deserve it. I believe more in this underlying principle than I do in any prayer I ever heard spoken in sermons, than in any hymn I ever read in sacred texts.

In desperation I cling to this belief that every drop of blood I shed, every hoarse cry that escapes my cracked lips, every self-inflicted ache that I endure will suffice to prevail over my transgressions.

Poetry: Heresy

I do not fancy myself a believer of God, and even when I did, it was half-hearted at best.

When I was a child, I was sold the idea of a merciful god, a father I could come to with all my problems. There was no father for me when I came home, and there was no father for me in the heaven's above.

Sometimes I question whether he created me the way I am out of spite, Whether I was given this body, this mind so I would resent the world for what it had made of me. So that I could become a God of my own creation, reshaping my flesh.

Poetry: Womb of solitude

Whenever I feel overwhelmed by the currents of life, I can always find solace in this thought:

If all else fails, if everything becomes too much I can escape into the cool embrace of death.

I can then carve myself a hole in her womb of solitude and leave the remains behind me.

Ever since watching Hannibal, I couldn't get the idea of the person suit out of my head. In the show, profiler Will Graham uses the term to describe Hannibal Lecter's mimicry of human behavior to hide his sociopathic tendencies.

For me, the idea of the person suit encapsulates struggles I face daily: my feeble attempts to uphold an image constructed by those around me and partially myself. During the last few weeks these attempts have become more difficult which led to the creation of this image.

I just think skeleton bones expresses a feeling that is all too familiar to me. At certain points I can't help but wonder why I keep pushing through with things. In the end my body will dissolve into nothingness and what remains of me is an image each person had of me, an image that just adds to their own collection of memories that they carry around.

A Series: Greek Gods

Nyx is the Greek personification of the night. She is part of the primordial deities mentioned in Hesiod's Theogony. Together with Erebos, personification of darkness, she gave birth to Hemera, the personification of the day, and Aether, personification of the bright sky.

Her other children included Nemesis, goddess of retribution, Hypnos, god of sleep, Thanatos, god of death, Eris, goddess of discord, and several others.

In Orphic literature she delivers prophecies to Zeus and is often called nurse of the gods; that is where he epithet trophos comes from. Apart from that there is little known about her appearance as well as her cult. Her symbols include black animals such as roosters, bulls and sheep.

I watched ”Poor Things" with my mother earlier this year and it was quite interesting. While my mother found it to be disturbing and crazy at certain points, I fell in love with the imagery and costume design of the movie as well as the outstanding performance by Emma Stone. I know the movie itself is highly controversial and I myself am still unsure exactly what I personally think of it. For a deeper perspective into the movie and it's characters, I'd recommend the video done by @finalgirlstudios on youtube.

My parents convinced me last year to watch

”Dune” with them, after they had already watched it once, and even my dad, who is usually not super keen on fantasy (or sci-fi in this case), loved it.

I was at awe at the costume design and style of both Arrakis as well as Caladan. Trying to recreate the dessert suits of the Fremen was difficult on account of all the little details, but it was still a lot of fun to draw this.
