Never Have I Ever Season 2 Review:
So, today I’ll be reviewing Never Have I Ever Season 2. First off though, I’d like to start by saying that I did not finish watching Season 2 of Never Have I Ever because it was so bad and I got it on good authority from a couple friends that it only got worse from where I stopped at the beginning of 2x05. So, here we are!
Many of you may or may not be thinking, how is this woman supposed to review a show with any credibility if she didn’t even finish the season? Well, all I can tell you is my thoughts, both good and bad, on it, and leave it at that. Your opinion is up to you.
First off, why and where do Devi’s friends, Fabiola and Eleanor get off telling Devi to choose Paxton over Ben? I’ll admit I’m firmly Team Ben in this messed up two boyfriends situation, but Paxton wouldn’t make a bad friend, just not an attentive and good boyfriend. At least in my opinion.
I just don’t get how Fabiola and Eleanor are experts in this situation. Fabiola just got a girlfriend and she’s feeling insecure around her girlfriend’s friends because she doesn’t know the social ins and outs of being gay and Eleanor is almost as awkward as Devi when it comes to boys. What gives them the authority on helping Devi choose Paxton or Ben? Both girls are far too inexperienced to be giving dating advice to their definitely misguided friend, Devi.
Listen, I know it’s just a show and it’s supposed to be funny, but Devi’s whole boy situation comes off as annoying. At least to me. Why couldn’t Devi ask Kamala for advice on this? Especially since she’s been in a similar quandary. Trying to choose between her American boyfriend and Prashant.
Also, Dr. Ryan is so right when she tells Devi that she has 0 boyfriends instead of 2 because she’s not being open and honest with either of them.
Maybe I’m simply not the target audience for this particular show since I’m 30, but I still read a lot of YA Books and I’ve never seen a character come off as quite this annoying. Even Paxton with his annoying quirks isn’t as bad as Devi in this whole situation.
Okay, rant over. At least for now. Now, onto some of the few things I enjoyed about this season. My favorite character was definitely Paxton’s sister, Rebecca. She had some amazing one liners and advice to give to Paxton on his misguided academic and personal journey. She was definitely the star of the show for me.
I also thought Prashant and Kamala were so soft and beautiful. Him bringing a meal to her lab for her when she’s having a bad day was perfection.
I also loved the addition of Common, which my best friend actually pointed out to me as we were watching (and getting equally aggravated with Devi and her 2 boyfriends situation). I’ll be taking bets now on when his character and Devi’s mom will get together, because I don’t know about you, but I saw the tiniest bit of chemistry between them.
