Evolution of Gorga
Forty-four years of chaos, bad decisions, emotional damage, and increasingly better linework. Gorga started as a little gremlin doodle and somehow became my spirit animal. The ears got bigger. The attitude stayed the same. Some people outgrow imaginary friends. I gave mine character development.
My process.
People sometimes assume character art starts with some grand master plan. In reality, it usually begins with me drawing an egg shape and aggressively negotiating with anatomy until a person appears. Here’s the progression from rough construction sketch to final cleanup - featuring mechanical pencils, a random pen I found on the floor, finger-smudged shading like it’s still 1998, and the eternal ritual of staring at the eyes until they stare back.

When I was 12 years old in the 7th grade, we had Metal Shop and Wood Shop. We learned how to operate metal lathes that could shave aluminum or steel like butter. We melted lead ingots and poured molten lead into sand-cast molds to make stuff. We welded with acetylene gas & oxygen tanks, and we arc welded - all with very little supervision. We ran wood lathes, high-speed disk sanders that could take your thumb off, drill presses, band saws, and sheet metal benders. We used just about every hand tool there was, including razor blades and ultility knives for leathercrafting in wood shop. No one got hurt. We learned great skills and made some awesome stuff. Seventh grade! Later years found us in Auto Shop learning how to replace brakes or rebuild an engine. At ages 10 to 17 years old, we would grab our shotguns on Saturdays and go rabbit or pheasant hunting with friends. We never took our guns to school. It never occurred to us. We were usually outside in the sunshine, riding our bikes a distance 12 miles just to go fishing. We would cook the fish over a wood fire on the riverbank and eat them. Everyone knew how to repair a bicycle tire or fix a broken bike chain on the roadside. We carried hand tools in bike bags. Sundays were for church and family. No one took Prozac, Zoloft, Lexapro, or Ritalin. We were happy and healthy.

John 8:12
12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

my most sick and twisted fantasy
I was honestly a bit nervous to draw and post this one, because it's such a deep rooted and genuine issue I struggle with. It's a thing I wish could be fixed in some way, but I feel pretty comforted it resonated with so many others too
