okay for those of you who weren't in the fandom in 2019 and haven't gone back to watch it since, the original darrington brigade one shot was the cr episode above all others that most felt like a fever dream the whole way through (seriously i remember when it came out the general vibe was being mildly drunk/high in someone else's bathroom at 2am but like in a good way)

the cast of the darrington brigade were as follows:

sam as the titular character, his secondary c1 pc world renowned author and artificer taryon gary darrington

laura as an air genasi monk who only just left the monastery and the most normal person here just by process of elimination

ashley as an underground crime boss

marisha as the dwarf who just invented audio recording and is so enthusiastically testing it out in recording a live commentary of all of their adventures 1920s radio host style

liam and travis as iconic duo buddy the ogre with an entire 5 intelligence and his best friend tiny angry halfling cleric macaroni samsonite

taliesin as batman-parody-so-ridiculous-it-surpasses-spider-noir "the owlbear"

and of course jon heder reprising his c1 role of lionel gayheart, bardbarian who's actually a duck that scanlan true polymorphed into a half orc several years back

the final boss was quackthulu

and you're telling me that, in what i have to assume from context is going to be the first livestreamed cr episode since covid started? in the place of a regular cr episode this week, we're getting a part 2 of that, DMed by a sam riegel who hasn't slept in over 24 hours and is coming straight off the charity auction

they've called the episode hubris.

finally finished a painting i've been cooking in my mind for a few years! shadowgast as The Devil, one of my favorite tarot cards and one of the three cards i associate with their relationship

i'm not much for divination but i love the story-telling aspect of tarot, and one of my favorite visual metaphors of The Devil is how loose the chains around the two figures' necks are. they're not kept bound. it's that possibility to choose that i find so significant, and so fitting for the story of these two wizards. to say you're not defined by your past is to say you're born with all the choices you make; but to say you are forever defined by it is to deny yourself the right to change. the chains around your neck might be very heavy, but the choice to shrug them off is always yours to take.
