NYFW BACKSTAGE BEAUTY REPORT: MILLY FALL 2016 

Get a headstart on the beauty look you’ll want to copy this fall... 

HAIR

To temper the feminine silhouettes of the collection, Creative Director Bob Recine led a team of experts to create an understated look. Simple and textured with a definitive middle part, models wore their hair slightly tousled and loosely tied for a sexy, undone look.

MAKE-UP

Makeup master Romy Soleimani created a minimalist look featuring a pop of pastels.

NAILS

Nails polished off the look with understated flair in a neutral shade.

BACKSTAGE REPORT: MILLY FALL ‘16 

Curious what it’s like backstage at the MILLY FALL ‘16 Fashion Show? We’ve got you covered.

9:30 AM: My production team, Dizon Inc., arrives on-site first. They have produced MILLY fashion shows for years so they’re total pros - I’m in good hands. They oversee load-in and the set direction.

11:45 AM: Backstage catering arrives. 

12:00 PM: The models, makeup, hair and nail teams arrive at Pier 59 Studios.It’s organized chaos! Hair, makeup, and nails are hugely important to my show - every detail matters, so it takes a lot of time to perfect the look on each model. 

12:30 PM: I quickly get my hair and makeup done Romy and Bob while I prep for backstage interviews. This season, I was inspired by the intimacy of winter.

1:30 PM: Backstage interviews start–I have a full schedule, but I love walking everyone through the collection personally. It’s the first time anyone outside of my own team has seen it, a big moment.

2:00 PM: Time for  rehearsal. The models walk in custom-made Manolo Blahniks with hundreds of people watching–you can imagine why we need a rehearsal…

2:15 PM.: The models are dressed in their first looks, and I can’t wait to see the collection come to life.

3:00 PM: SHOW TIME!

RUNWAY REPORT: FALL 2016 COLLECTION

The MILLY Fall ‘16 ready-to-wear, evening and handbag collection made its Runway debut this week for #NYFW to a full house made up of the New York fashion insiders, from global buyers and fashion editors to influencers, bloggers and street style stars.

THE COLLECTION:

Inspired by the intimacy of winter, MILLY founder and designer Michelle Smith created a rich, layered collection that played with proportion - masculine/feminine, intricate/streamlined, luxurious/utilitarian. 

Color: Metallics, jewel tones such as ruby reds, emeralds, petal, powder blue and navy.

Fabric: Smith conceptualized and custom designed textiles and bonded fabrics using luxurious duchess satin and cutting-edge embossed neoprene.  

Silhouette: With the use of refined draping techniques and precise minimalist tailoring, the collection featured dramatic, sculptural cascading silhouettes.
