When I compose

a brand new draft:

"I hope this finds you well"

I think of panicked searching

maybe something like

running, through

gnarly limbs and snatching roots

hungered growls and ghoulish sounds

running, calling out your

and then I find you.

Ghost Town

I wandered lonely as a cloud

o’er cracked walks and got the chills

For I knew a figure in the crowd

Head bowed, I ran for the hills

Head down, averted eyes,

My breath quickened, pace too

I thought it wise

to skip town, and become someone new.

but new ghosts I will accrue…

oh, will the body count cease?

all the bodies that I knew

that I betrayed, failed, policed?

oh, a place with no living ghosts, 

oh, a history-less paradise, 

it must be an island so remote

For now,

I’m coasting

on the current of my old personality,

old interactions.

I wonder

How long I can keep riding this wave.

I dread the crash:

The water frigid,

Lungs screaming for air

Heart thumping twice as fast

to beat as much as it can

before it ceases forever

and I’m only a corpse
