Sometimes coordinating with other teams is so frustrating. There's this woman who can't access an SQL database, and there's an AD group that will grant her that access. I keep trying to run proper security checks, I'm not going to circumvent policy, but I keep reaching out to like our security and engineering teams to be like "can I add this woman to this group, is that okay?" And they keep misinterpreting me asking that as "will this fix the issue," and we can't get past that.

This will fix the issue, but I just need you to verbally say its okay to add her to this security group.

There's this other guy having issues with an FTP platform, and I have very well documented that it is not the FTP client, its server misconfiguration, and they keep saying "well install WinSCP"

Its not the client! And even if it were, WinSCP costs money, we have no licenses, we have no ability to procure licenses, you have to fix your server misconfiguration.

The "guy who died from being forcefemmed" thing is probably a reference to David Reimer, a (cis) boy who was "raised as a girl" following a botched circumcision.

He eventually rejected the assignment as female, showing dysphoria much like a trans man. Even after reverting to his desired gender, he continued to be (understandably) troubled, and eventually completed suicide at age 38.

His story established that gender is (at least for some of us) internal, inherent, and unchangeable. Not purely learned.

This shows why trans people like myself NEED transition to live. Living as a man was never really an option for me, just as living as a woman wasn't for Reimer.

Unfortunately, transphobes somehow take exactly the wrong lesson from such episodes.

In case it isn’t clear- the circumcision was so botched that John Money, who was a psychologist working in the field of coercive assignment of sex at birth in the context of intersex kids and believed that gender is inherently neutral until socially enforced, was able to convince the parents it would be easier for David to grow up as a visually “normal” girl than a boy with a disability. He was in part motivated by the fact that David had an identical twin, Brian, who could serve as a control in his experiment. He made the brothers rehearse sexual performances from a young age in order to reinforce David’s “girlhood”. David would find out the truth and make use of the same resources available to trans men - T, double mastectomy, and phalloplasty - to transition away from the neovagina and E that were forced upon him as a kid. Both brothers would eventually commit suicide due to the psychological and sexual trauma of their childhood, and their story being publicized helped intersex advocacy groups fight back against coercive surgery on the next generation of our brethren.

All this to say that gender autonomy is something we all deserve. We have the medical knowledge to undo nearly all the physical changes of transition, resources that intersex adults have utilized the same way David did. If someone transitioned and regrets it, they can transition again. Making surgery & hormones less accessible makes people feel they must go all or nothing, forces them to rush in and then regret that they didn’t control the pace of their progress. Cutting us off entirely to lock people in gender closets will cause far more suicides than the small percentage of people who regret transitioning entirely.
