"No! Well I mean, yes it was. But it's for practicality, of course. You know, given that it's quicker and more efficient to do that then walk down all the stairs."

Snapping the book shut irritably, Lance scowled at his brother. “What is it?” he demanded. “Learning about your ancestors isn’t gripping enough for you? Is it too boring for poor little Liam’s ears to hear the fascinating ways in which they hunted down muggles? Even the last one,” he added incredulously, “were the purebloods set off dung bombs to round the muggles up? That held no interest for you whatsoever?”
"No, Lance, I swear it isn't like that at all! Of course I appreciate reading this! There are few pieces of great literature that could even come close to rivaling the intensity on this book. I just asked if we could be finished for the day. You see, each one of the stories of our ancestors is packed with just so much knowledge that we could learn from I just thought it would be beneficial to stop here so I could spend the rest of the day processing all that I have to learn from them. It wouldn't do me any good to read through the whole book and not get anything from it. I just wanted to make sure I'm getting it's full impact."
The wrong door? Are you kidding with me? You need password to get in here, that’s why it’s called the prefects’ bathroom, you  can’t just walz in here whenever you please.
Liam feels his cheeks heating with embarrassment at the idiocy of his excuse and while his find his looking for an reasonable one his mouth starts spilling out the truth. "I know! And I'm sorry for being here and I'm sorry for lying, I just, well it's rather complicated. I had just finished potions and Professor Slughorn asked if I'd bring the calming draughts he brewed to Mrs. Pomfrey and I did and Greta- Greta Catchlove, she's in hufflepuff and she's a prefect- she was there because she's sick, you see  and she's upset because she's missing her recipe book- apparently, she has this little recipe book that she likes to carry around. She thought she had left it in the prefects bathroom but Mrs. Pomfrey won't let her leave the infirmary to check so she'd ask if I'd go do it for her. And I was going to say no, I really was, but she coughed and she sounded so sick and looked so pitiful and I guess I said yes. And then she gave me the password and now I'm here..." He pauses to catch his breath after the quickly breathed explanation, "Please don't tell Lance." He pleas with wide eyes.
"What?"
"Sorry, just... Do you think we could be done with this reading for the day?"
What the hell are you doing here?
"Oh God, Emma, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to just walk in on you like this! And this certainly isn't where I was trying to get. I've been lost in my head all day, I must have walked through the wrong door. I'm sorry."
Oh, I’m fine thanks… I should go and see her.
"If you're sure... She was in her classroom when I last saw her."
"No. I don’t even want to move."
"Right, well, sometimes we have to do things we don't want to?" He offers rather unsurely before adding, "And it's not as if you'd have to travel far."
"You're Lily Evans, yes? Ms. McGonagall was looking for you- something about prefect duties, I believe... Though you look a bit ill. I could tell her you aren't well enough to come right now, if you wish?"
When Liam shows up for his Transfigurations class he's a bit surprised to see the disowned Black heir still sitting in his seat. He doesn't think Sirius realizes the class has ended and most of the other 6th years have already filed out of the room, and he's quite convinced Sirius isn't actually addressing him but ranting aloud. "Oh. Well, um, that is a rather unfavorable situation... Still, may I have my seat?"
...
"I’m glad my house isn’t playing in Quidditch, I really don’t like having to pick a side."
"What will you do when it is our house's turn to play?"
"What the hell did you do?"
"I didn't want to do it... I wanted to say no. I really did... You can't tell them no, Emma. You can't..."
"How do I do this?"
"It's simple, really. The tasks themselves aren't hard as long as you do them in the right order. Here let me write the instructions down for you and I'm sure you'll be set."
"I’m pretty sure I like you."
"I think a declaration of this sort would be far less uncomfortable if you had more clothes on for it."
In which Gideon may be really drunk and maybe semi naked and Liam is very flustered?
"I hope we do." she nodded, then frowned a little at his question. "Hm, come to think of, definitely not. Your brother is truly great and I’m sure he’ll rise as an incredible figure in society, but it’s not him I’m really interested in." she sighed, wondering if she should even mention Lucius. "I just think it would be very presentable to go with him and he certainly looks like a fun date for the night."
"Most presentable, indeed." He agrees easily. The Selwyn heir walking in arm and arm with one of the Black daughters would be a welcomed sight among pureblood eyes, and it's not that Liam objects to any of the black sisters, even if he is a little intimidated by Bellatrix, but he finds himself relieved that Narcissa isn't seeking a permanent spot by Lance's side, even if it's for no other reason than trusting Lance to be dedicated enough to stick to wooing one woman at a time even if she hasn't immediately thrown herself in his arms. "I trust Lance will be a gracious host and outstanding date to make sure you have the best time possible. I'm sure he'd even be accommodating and spare a dance or two so you may have a moment without whoever it is that you are interested in." Normally Liam wouldn't have assumed Lance to do something like that since he has a slight possessive streak but he's sure if it's Odette keeping him company while Narcissa is away, everyone will remain quite satisfied.
I need to know...
"And yet we try ceaselessly to turn them off. Nevertheless, my father used to say that the ocean ceaeslessly tries to kiss the shore and that I should take my lessons from that. And if the ocean never gives in that why should we?"
"Fine, but you must let me buy you an extravagant christmas gift to make up for it."
"But are they the same lesson? The ocean works endlessly to try and make its actions match the love it feels for the shore but we as humans use actions to try and hide the emotions that lie beneath our surface. Not to mention the ocean has all the time in the world to seek what it wants, we as humans aren't limited with our own time constraints."
"Would you settle for getting me something practical over something extravagant?"
"Your brother asked me to go with him to the Pre-Christmas Ball at family’s manor." she smiled proudly.
"Really?" Liam's eyebrows knit together because he had been sure that Lance was planning on asking Odette to the ball. He quickly changes his expression though, afraid Narcissa will be offended at his surprise. "That's wonderful, Narcissa! He'll be honored to have you by his side and I'm sure you'll both have a lovely time." He hesitates, licking his lips, before asking, "Please forgive me for prying, but if you don't mind me asking, are you hoping for something between you and Lance that goes beyond a night of dancing?"
