Stop Rhino Poaching.com , utilising funding donated by CTM, is proud to have organised and sponsored the first-ever workshop on Air Support for Counter-Poaching Operations. The workshop, initiated by Jack Greeff of Ntomeni Ranger Services, was supported by SANParks (Kruger National Park,) Game Reserves United, and conducted in proud collaboration with the CSIR and Logtra Solutions. Operational pilots, reserve managers, security managers and rangers from State, Provincial and Private rhino reserves attended. Also in attendance was Captain Harry Wales, who’s active participation and strategic thinking contributed greatly towards reaching the objectives of the workshop. Prince Harry has an excellent grasp of the complex poaching crisis and his personal involvement and sincere interest in finding solutions for the rhino cause comes at a time when rhinos and their rangers need it most. Thank you Harry!

“The Forgotten Kingdom,” which started out as a private video diary, chronicles a 19 year old Prince Harry’s eight-week visit to Lesotho in February and March 2004. This TV documentary helped raise approximately $2 million for the British Red Cross Lesotho Fund.

Author Appreciation Week - Prince Harry edition!

Fanfiction writers spend a lot of time and effort on creating amazing content for all of us to enjoy, taking time out of often busy schedules to plot and to research, to write and to post, as well as interacting with readers and creating additional content. And they do it for free, with no promise of any return on their investment. It takes a lot of courage to share writing that they’ve been working hard on and often times new writers struggle to get feedback on their work, which can be dissuading and at times frustrating, especially when there is one negative message that seems to somehow outweigh all the positive ones.

At the same time, this community is flourishing right now, with fabulous new stories being announced every day, brand new fics being posted, and some of the best and most creative ideas out there being turned into wonderful stories for us to enjoy. It’s the perfect time to celebrate the talent we have in this community, promote new content that’s just starting out, and show our fic writers how much we value them for giving so much so we have something lovely to read at the end of the day.

From Monday 10th August - Sunday 17th August, let’s show our appreciation for fic writers in the community and spread some love and positivity. How can you participate? Here are some suggestions:

Each day, pick a writer and send them a message (or a review). Tell them what you love about their writing: talk about your favourite character, pick a quote you really love, let them know why their story stands out. Or even just say hi so they know that you’re there. If you’re a silent reader, now is the time to speak up.

Reblog fic posts instead of just liking them; spread around the stories you love so other people can see them and give them a try. And if you see a new story that you haven’t tried yet that needs a bit of love, reblog that too.

Make fic rec posts with some of your favourites and tell everyone why you love them so much. And let’s show our under-appreciated gems some real love.

Or, you know, just do you.

Honestly, just small things like this can motivate a writer to keep going when things are tough.

I think this is such an incredible idea and I want to thank bioluminescentwriting for alerting me to the idea and letting me use it for our fandom! But it can only really work if you guys all join in; it’s worked so well over in other fandoms and I’m sure it’d be amazing here too! So thanks and I’m going to reblog the hell out of this so as many people see it as possible. Feel free to do the same and we can have an amazing week!

Last year, we held the first ever Invictus Games here in London. It was an event which focused the recovery of hundreds of wounded servicemen and women through sport, but more significantly it inspired many hundreds more. The amazing British public embraced these Games and its competitors as only they can; thanking them and the Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifice. Over 400 competitors from 13 nations entertained thousands of spectators over four incredible and unforgettable days. It was an event that captured hearts, challenged minds and changed lives. The competitors showed grit, determination and humour: an absolute refusal to be beaten or be defined by their injuries - the Invictus spirit was born. As I’ve continued to work with wounded servicemen and women, I regularly see the power of the soldiers’ stories to inspire others. For every competitor last September, there are hundreds of others around the world who would benefit from having the same opportunity. I had always hoped that last year’s games would be more than a one off. For me, the 2014 Games were just the beginning of the Invictus story. I wanted other cities and countries to look at the competition - what it meant to those taking part and those who saw it - and take up the challenge for the next Invictus Games. So today, I am absolutely delighted to announce that the United States has taken up that challenge and will host the next Invictus Games in Orlando, Florida from the 8th to the 12th May 2016. I have no doubt that Ken Fisher and his team will set the bar even higher than London did and that the USA will put on a great show. No pressure. I can’t wait to see the American public supporting these inspirational men and women at the next games. And what better place to host such a great family event than Orlando. There will be plenty of exciting developments over the coming months so make sure you follow the Invictus story and join me for the next chapter of this remarkable sporting event.
