OP I'm afraid you've unleashed the rambling beast inside of me, so I'm very sorry for the very, very long post I'm gonna make.
Also!!! My Ibispaint X is in Spanish, so the names of settings won't match the images themselves.
HERE'S EVERYTHING I KNOW ABOUT MAKING DIVIDERS.
1) how do I get stuff to make dividers in the first place?
Well, there's some on tumblr, but Ibispaint X has it's own library of (to my knowledge) f2u images and drawings, as to help artists optimize their work.
You just have to look up at the uppermost right corner, and touch the icon that looks like a picture.
That's the library of images and drawings. If you're like me, you'll probably end up using the "lace and frills" section the most, if not the "frames" section.
As for how big your canvas should be, I'd recommend either 1280x720 or 1500x500.
2) how do I actually do the dividers?
The thing about dividers is.... There isn't a wright or wrong way to go about them. However, since you want to make dividers like this:
I might as well show you some tips, or rather my process. Let's begin with...
Stroke is one of the multiple options you can choose in the "effects" tool on Ibispaint X. To access it, simply click your brush/eraser and the tool section should come up.
Then, click on the "effects" tool. It will display the multiple effects you can use
Note: the options that are for premium users only are differentiated with a small yellow circle with a P in the middle of it. Also, the effects tool and effect layers are different things! Do not get them mixed up!
As you can see, the lovely people who made Ibispaint separated these by different categories, with Stroke being in the "Style" category so it's easier to find.
There's two different Stroke options, Both (sides) Stroke and External Stroke.
Stroke (Both sides) will, as it says, add a stroke too both sides of your image; to the exterior of it, and to the inside of it.
As you can see, you can modify both the width of the inner stroke, and the width of the outer stroke. Antialias makes it so the stroke sorta looks softer
Antialias at 1.0px VS at 3.0px.
You can also change the color to whatever you like.
VERY IMPORTANT!! Stroke (Both Sides) can either affect the current layer, or the layer under it. Keep this in mind while working with it.
Outer Stroke, on the other hand, will only add a stroke to the exterior of your image.
As you can see, you can only modify the width, and it's antialias.
VERY IMPORTANT!! It can either affect it's current layer, or the layer above it. Please keep this in mind while working with it.
Glow is another good way to make all the parts of your divider stand out. It can also be found on the "Style" category, and like Stroke, there's two versions of it; Glow (Inner), and Glow (Outer).
Glow (Inner) will add some glow to your image.
Similar to Stroke, Glow (Inner) will affect either it's current layer, or the one under it. Meanwhile, Glow (Outer) will affect either it's current layer, or the one under it.
But, how do I make it blur out? Or how do it make it bend? well buddy, get ready for...
3) How do I make my dividers more complex?
(and give myself a headache in the process)
Technically speaking, you could just use stroke and glow and call it a day. Maybe add your watermark, or a silly image, and that's that.
... But you wanna be the Cool Guy with the Cool Dividers. So, it is my obligation to teach you.
A) How do I make it blur out?
Make a new layer under your divider (and effects, if you have them), and make a wide line under it, like so:
2. Pick the "effects" tool and click on the "Blur" category. You can either pick "Gaussian Blur" or "Movement Blur", however for this tutorial we'll be using the "Movement Blur". Make it so it's at 90 degrees.
3. Make a new layer over this blurred line one, and go to the Ibispaint image library like shown earlier, and pick the Geometry patterns section, as these will repeat indefinitely. Modify to your liking.
4. Make the pattern layer clip over the blurred line layer, then merge then together. Clean anything extra with your eraser
5. You're done. YAY!!!!!!
B) How do i make it bend?
For this, you'll be using the move option at the side bar. I'd also recommend that, if you have your stroke / glown and divider layers separate from each other, that you merge them together.
While in here, you will be using the mesh funtion, the last one in the line.
As you can see, our image already comes divided into three sections both horizontally and vertically. You'll basically have to drag these blue dots up or down to give it that curved effect.
You should aim for it to look something like this:
And that's pretty much it! That was... A very long post, wasn't it?
Nevertheless, I tried my best explaining what I know. Of course, you are allowed to ask questions in my inbox, I'll be willing to explain to the best of my abilities!
Also here's the finished product, in case you're curios
It's definitely not by best work, but hopefully this tutorial is usefull!
Again, if anyone has any questions, feel free to send them in my inbox for this blog, or in my main account (@adamofapple)
