//Whelp! Here we are–this is the new home for InnocentManWithABounty, TheMostPowerfulEditor, and IWillMakeMyStandHere. Drafts and the queue are going to be moved over during the course of today. As I go, I MAY clean out some really old drafts or I may keep everything. We’ll see!!
//These blogs are not dead!! I’ve just decided that its WAY easier using multis grouped by characters SO over the weekend I’ll be moving Vin, Mary, and Inez into a single blog. I’ll probably also be adding Judge Travis, and Billy as regular characters instead of just NPCs. Whether I add more of the guys or not, we’ll see. Once I get a new URL for the blog, I will be posting that and moving everything over there!

Finding a Mermaid in the West--Elizabeth and Billy Travis
Elizabeth rubbed her lips together and looked tensely between the two. If she had to go alone, she would. But she feared that she wouldn’t find it in time, and she may end up going back to the fairground and staying in the tank anyway… Locke certainly knew how to make things harder for her. And he did love punishment…
“Oh, um… Well… I, I’m not used to such dry places, you see.” She began. “Where I come from, it’s a lot wetter. And I suppose my lungs aren’t used to such arid climates. I thought taking a swim might help.”
It wasn’t exactly the truth, but it was the most Elizabeth could give. Otherwise, they’d both be looking at her with that same horrified expression; like she were a monster. And Locke was angry enough with her. She didn’t need to bring down more of his ire on her.
“I can try to find it myself, I just… I don’t know the way. And I certainly don’t want to get lost. That’s all.”
Vin narrowed his eyes, clearly not buying the answer Elizabeth had given him. It was a bit too vague for his tastes—too many questions existed in the margins that she was obviously trying to dance around. Something in her manner though made him think of…time limits…as if she was racing against something he was not aware of. Beside him, Billy bounced impatiently on the balls of his feet but resisted the urge to repeat his plea. He knew he could not rush Vin any more then he could rush Chris. Only Buck and JD could be rushed into quick actions—it was kind of bad luck he had found the cautious tracker rather than one of them. When she suggested that she could find it on her own, he shook his head. The last thing they needed was some Easterner wandering off into the desert and getting herself in trouble. Finally, he looked toward Billy and smiled a bit, “Go tell your Ma I’m taking you fishin’ for a while. We’ll be back ‘round supper time.” Emitting a triumphant whoop, Billy tore down the street to the Clarion, stuck his head inside the half-open door long enough to shout his news to Mary and her acknowledgement before he raced back to them. Shaking his head as he laughed, Vin inclined his head. “Come on…River’s this way. Don’t go runnin’ ‘head this time Billy—I don’t want you runnin’ into a big cat or somethin’. Same thing for you ma’am.” He tipped his hat toward Elizabeth as they started walking. “Don’t need any new folk in town gettin’ lost and in trouble.” =====
The walk to the river was quiet and fairly brief. It was not an incredibly long trip, especially for someone like Vin who knew all the best shortcuts. Reaching the river, Vin drew in a deep breath of the moist air and stepped aside to give Elizabeth access to the water. Giving the woman some privacy, he crouched down in front of Billy and distracted him. “Now what’d I teach you last time about knowing if the water’s safe or not?” Dutifully, the boy began reciting everything Vin had taught him about reading currents, how to tell if the water level was too high and might be flooding, and how the water was often much colder under the surface then people would think. Deeply focused, he paid no attention to what Elizabeth might be doing while she prepared for her swim.
A Listening Ear--Ashencreature
“Is it selling yourself short to be honest?” Ella chuckled softly. “Mary, I was so lost… If I hadn’t had you and Belle, I don’t think I’d have survived a year. Whether it was Madam or myself that ended it, the result would still be the same. But because I had you and Belle, I knew I wasn’t alone. I knew that as long as there were people who cared, even if only 2 of them, then I had a reason to live. I couldn’t leave the two of you when you had problems of your own that you needed me to be there for.”
When one was so desperate and standing on the edge of the metaphorical cliff, it seemed like any hand to hold, was a precious gift. And everything good that happened after seemed due solely to that hand being offered.
“Besides. If you two hadn’t shown me that I wasn’t some hideous wretch like they would have had me believe, I never would have had the courage to even talk to Kit. I remember well… When you forced me in front of that mirror… It was the first time in my life I actually felt pretty for myself, Mary. When my mother was alive, I lived in her shadow. Not that she meant it to be that way, but she was always so beautiful and so perfect. And I wanted so badly to be just like her, but I never could. And it made me feel like a failure. Then Madam and the girls… Well, they’d have done or said anything to destroy me and make me feel as ugly as they were inside.”
@moretreasurewithin
Mary listened to Ella quietly, smiling softly as the girl extolled the many ways she and Belle had helped her, giving her a new view on herself after all the cruel things her step-mother and step-siblings put her through. As her friend reached the end of her speech, Mary reached across to take Ella’s hand and squeeze it lightly. “We might have given you the self-confidence to talk with Kit but it was your own charms that won him over and stole his heart.” Mary smiled. “Never forget that. You are a charming, beautiful kind woman and that is what has carried you so far. Belle and I just provided some support and encouragement.” Squeezing her hand again, Mary then leaned back in her chair. “Now, tell me all of the exciting things that you and Kit have been up too since we last spoke. How is restoring your father’s house going? What kind of progress are you making with it?” Restoring the old manor would be a long job but Mary was sure Ella and Kit would complete it. Ella was so passionate about it that her force of will would be enough to see the project through if nothing else. Mary was sure though that Kit was equally as excited—he loved Ella so much that any project which brought her joy would bring him joy as well.
//The on-going saga of the laptop continues. So….we are still waiting for parts. The shop ordered the new keyboard and the one they got was the wrong one. The proper one IS coming but it’ll probably take about four weeks to get here. HOWEVER there is some good news. I’ve basically nicked my mom’s laptop to use in the interim since she’s not using it right now. I still won’t have icons since I’m not clogging my mom’s laptop up with that BUT we can get some writing going again and that’s the important part. Expect some threads to update tonight now that I can actually work and type in a more comfortable fashion again!
All GOOD things leave too QUICKLY and all BAD things last too LONG.
