Okay so maybe this was a bit of a stretch for today’s peachtober prompt, “strawberry” …but I had this goofy idea stewing in my brain for a while and figured this was my excuse to finally draw it lmao

I would not be able to tell you what possessed me to make art of my dumb shitpost but here's more Regular Man Mega Starmie. He works a 9-5 job to provide for his baby Staryu and the Fidough he picked up from the streets. He works by Octodad rules. Just a normal regular man.

So...I see a lot of people hating on the Mega Starmie design. It's goofy, but the reference is going over our heads. The design is probably a reference to a 1956 Tokatsu Science Fiction film (think Godzilla era of practical affects and kaijus). It was called "Warning from Space" and was directed by Koji Shima. You can see in the flavor text in plza the extraterrestrial inference/allusion. That's because the film it was inspired by was a Space invasion movie essentially. I think there is also a 1960 DC villain (Starro) with a similar motif/is a reference to this film too?

So in short, this design wasn't made for you. That's ok. It was a reference to Japanese media that went over most of our heads. That is all. I'm curious to look into that else they referenced with the new mega evolutions.
