[Fiction in 5] Tommy Town
They were a group of "thrill seekers". At least that's how they referred to themselves instead of punk ass kids who were terrible human beings. The later doesn't quite have the same ring as the first one. They'd already killed one person. Whether they "had to" or not doesn't matter at this point, at the very least the 5 who didn't directly do the killing are tied in as accomplices and could at least be charged with assault and battery with a deadly weapon if not attempted murder, never mind all the robbery and Larson charges they could face. But now they were bound. No one could rat out the other without getting themselves into trouble. The leader, Blaine, like to make sure everyone knew and understood that because tonight, they were going after the house of the richest man in their area.
He lived a town over and owned a ton of land. His name was Thomas Townsend. His property was about 150 acres of Forest with about 20 acres cleared for his yard and massive home. The locals referred to it as Tommy Town. He generally keeps to himself. He retired early, he's in his 40s now, after making a fortune on a couple small companies that sold off to giant corporations. He's generally liked and respected in the community. He owns the sports fields and makes sure they are always in tip top shape and hosts parties and gatherings on holidays for the locals. You know, things like haunted houses and hay rides at Halloween, Christmas lights, etc. Even though he's not always there, he does it to make people happy.
These kids though. All in their mid to late teens, won't be happy until they steal some riches for themselves and maybe take a couple of lives in the process. Some of The Six, which they now call themselves, in originally I might add, are still hesitant about the killing and really unhappy with the death that came at their hands. However, they liked the easy money that comes with stealing so they figured it must be part of the territory. Or at least they kept telling themselves that.
So tonight, they decide is the night. They'll sneak on the property, make sure there aren't too many people at Tom's house, you know, no parties or anything. Then just straight up smash the glass of his giant back door and essentially raid the place.
They never stopped to consider the alternative possibilities of what might happen though. As most kids don't. You know, things like, he's rich and might have surveillance and be ready for the attack? They thought he might have cameras, but figured at the very worst, he'd call the cops and they'd have to piece out before the cops got to them. Maybe they'd still have time to kill him before the cops got there Blaine would say. Anyway...
Sarah, the youngest of the group, was deemed the one who would throw the first rock through the window. She didn't want to though. Something didn't feel right. She didn't mind breaking the window. But she kept saying how nervous she was and how she thought they should back out becuase something would go wrong. Eventually, her older brother Matt grabbed the rock and hummed it at the window. Shattering the glass.
The kids all laughed as it rained down. Ladies first, Johnny said to Megan as he motioned for her to be the first to walk through the now shattered glass door.
She did, but once all were inside they waited a couple minutes. To listen. They decided no one was home.
"Okay. Groups of two." Blaine said. "Me and Megan, Johnny and Fred, and Matt and Sarah. We'll go upstairs." He grabbed Megan's hand and they ran up the stairs laughing and giggling. Johnny and Fred found a door too the basement. Matt and Sarah checked out the first floor.
Blaine and Megan found the bed room and decided to fool around. They were laughing and joking about how they would kill him if he came home. He being Tom. But they didn't realize, he was home. He was waiting for them.
Out of the corner of his eye Blaine saw a large shadow dart out of the corner of the dark room then heard a horrible smashing, cracking, smooshing sound, heard Sarah go silent, and then felt a warm wetness all over hit face. He looked up and could see blood covering her face in the moonlight. He flipped her off of him and saw the hatchet in the back of her head. Then he saw Tom and screamed.
"I know a lot about you. I knew you would come eventually because I know what you do. I know what you have already done. I know all of it. How you might ask? I am the reason visitors to this town had been disappearing for years. But see, I never messed with the locals. You don't do that. You don't. And, now you'll pay."
Blaine leaped off the bed at him, but Tom dodged him and instead caused him to fly face first into a bureau. Blaine got up slowly and when he turned around Tom was gone, but Sarah and Matt were standing right there. Horrified.
"WHAT THE FUCK MAN!?!" Matt screamed. "YOU KILLED HER?! WHY?!" He started attacking Blaine. He pulled his knife, but was too slow with it, as soon as Blaine saw the knife he pulled his own and shoved it right into Matt's gut.
"I didn't kill her you IDIOT! FUCK!" Realizing what he had done. He started to freak out. "Matt, MATT," screaming as he jumped over to Matt's side. Matt now on the ground just looks at him. "Matt, I'm sorry man. I don't know what the fuck I was doing. I'm an idiot. I'm sorry let's get out of here. I'm just freaking out becau..."
He's stopped short by the blade entering his neck, "Fuck you. And your bull shit, Blaine." Matt said as he pushed the remainder of the blade into Blaine's neck then pushing Blaine onto the floor as his wide eyes of shock stared into Matt's as his body lay there. Covered in blood, both his own and Blaine's, Matt stood up, or tried.
Now hunched over in pain and bleeding heavily from his abdomen, he looked to his sister, who's face was twisted in shock and terror, "Look. Sis. We gotta go. This whole thing is fucked. Blaine clearly went off the deep end. Who knows if the other two are sane or not. I know it seems like I didn't need to do that, but I did. I was afraid he might go after you next. I mean he fucking killed Megan. KILLED HER!"
"Okay..." She croaked in a low voice, clearly choking back her sobs and trying to stop herself from crying although tears were already streaming down her face. Matt took her hand and led her out of the room and down the stairs.
“Johnny, Fred, we gotta go guys. Come on. Get up. Weren’t you two supposed to be in the basement anyway?” Matt asked as he and Sarah headed toward the two who were sitting at a round glass table looking out the broke glass door at the back of the house. “Guys, come… Fuck. FUCK! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?!?” Johnny and Fred were both sitting there. Gutted. Intestines in their laps.
Matt started to try running and tripped. “Matt come on!”, Sarah yelled. “Get up!” Matt tried to stand, but stumbled. He held an arm up and Sarah got under it. Together they hobbled along as quickly as they could. Sarah kept looking back towards the house trying to make sense of it all, and trying to make sure that whoever killed Johnny and Fred was not following them. The coast was clear.
“Sarah. Slow. Sar… Slow down. Please.” Matt said. “I dunno. I umm…"
“What Matt? What? Please, we just need to keep going.” Sarah pleaded.
“Just give me a minute. I’m so dizzy. I’ll crawl. We need, you need. You need to get out of here. Okay… okay… Let’s go.” Matt stood up again with Sarah’s help.
“He won’t make it, you know. He’s lost too much blood.” As Sarah looked up, she realized the voice was coming from Tom. From Thomas Townsend. Arms and shirt covered in blood. Splatter on his face. He smiled, seeing the fear in Sarah’s eyes as he moved towards them.
