As I’m going over Punk Hazard, Law’s and Vergo’s fight piqued my interest. During the fight Vergo holds and squeezes Law’s heart, inflicting severe damage (as one would expect when their heart is squeezed). While Vergo pummels him, Law gets a moment to use his Counter Shock on Vergo, while Vergo still has his heart in his right hand. 

Keep in mind that Law places both of his thumbs onto his opponent and releases a strong electrical surge like a defibrillator. He released so much electricity Vergo was smoking like an over-fried chicken.

And it did nothing to Law! Even if Law was somehow able to control the electrical current, it would still get transferred to his heart through Vergo, especially with such electrical surge. 

Yes, Vergo wore gloves, I assume they’re leather and not rubber (unless all stars align for Law) and leather gloves won’t protect anyone from such current. They’re not a good insulator. So I’m not really sure how Law wasn’t in the slightest affected by his own ability. In the next panel Vergo squeezes his heart again and that affects him. 

Or is it that his own attacks don’t work on him?

One of the most famous scenes in Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote is Alonso Quixano’s fight with the windmills. He sees windmills and believes they are giants. When he rides to fight with them, he is knocked off his horse.

In One Piece, Luffy is from Foosha village (“Windmill village”), a windmill standing in Doflamingo’s way. The Donquixote doesn’t win here either.
