Lotus feels he has to be kept together, but sometimes that mask slips. Usually when they're alone and no one is there to see it, maybe that's why they seek a way to create the archives. It's a place of refuge where Lotus can often find solitude to let the composure fall. To let the panic or the stress or the hurt or trauma of things in the past have their way. Lotus can find peace, but sometimes it just happens. Maybe when it's been a long streak of staying up, pacing in their room or in the living room, worried that a moment of sleep could mean death. Could mean harm to the people he cares so deeply about. Maybe it's in a moment of high stress where these fears are realized but not in the way they thought. But no matter the cause, the mask slips. He feels like an animal, trapped in an enclosure, people staring and watching. Like he's being pulled at the dark rigged seams that hold them together, and Lotus can't tell you what hurts the most. Their eyes on him, or the pity he knows is soon to follow. It's easier to let people think he doesn't care, to let them think he's always deadpanned and serious. The facade of composure gives him peace of mind.

#I'd say the only people who Lotus will ever let willingly see the mask slip is probably Rurik and maybe Dante.#no one else. Rurik's already seen it. knows why Lotus struggles alone and why they don't seek comfort #he knows why Lotus stays up most nights eye trained on the door anxiously awaiting a threat that may never come.#Dante's aware but won't pry. He knows that Rurik only knows all that stuff because there wasn't much of a choice #and Dante may sometimes be a bit of an ass but there's boundaries in place for a reason.#though if Lotus ever let Dante in on all of that he'd let them.#anyway Lotus makes me sick j hate them so much like omg your trauma brother please please talk to SOMEONE 😭#LITERALLY TALK TO YOUR BOYFRIENDS WHO ARE RIGHHHTTT THERE #none of them are ones to pry any information 😔#unless it was dire and very important to know #besides Dante kinda gets the vibe of it from what little Rurik has said and all the visual context Lotus carries

#so much to yap about but no knowledge as to where I start

I feel so Lotus core rn (dressed like an off brand Edward Scissor Hands, drinking dr pepper instead of alcohol and scrolling on Tumblr.)

I think about Drutus more than what is considered normal and I really think their dynamic is sooo silly. Like yeah neither of them are very good at Vulnerability and more often than not you'll catch them bantering with one another but what you don't see are those vulnerable moments. They might not be the most outwardly affectionate couples but they do care, there are moments of affection. At some point in their lives they've learned to keep all of it under lock and key so that no one can use it in an attempt to harm them or the people around them. Idk I just like thinking of how quietly and carefully the three of them love one another and that's what makes them special to me. Also cuz they're freaks and good for them

Rurik is the only one between the three of them who doesn't have bad eyesight....

#yes I do think Lotus and Dante joke that Rurik stole their vision so his can be the best #yes I do think that despite his good vision Rurik is often running into things not cuz he can't see but because he's not paying attention #and yes Dante and Lotus do bully him for this every time it happens

Thinking about Lotus and his one eye again. Like the eye patch is less of a fashion statement and more of a necessity. In like context of him being a skeleton I can see it as the bone around the eye is fragile as it doesn't necessarily scar, so the eye patch essentially serves as a cushion to keep it from being further damaged. In a human context, it's a lot. Given people drawing Lotus with a scar over that eye, this is assuming he LOST the eye at some point. Aside from the effects of a traumatic injury, the eye socket itself would likely be very sensitive. If he has the eye still, it could be sensitive to the light or even the slightest of debris. Also there's the issue of it drying out, and when it does it'd hurt a lot or feel very uncomfortable. So covering it with an eye patch is functional. I do think when he's older and has better access to things, they probably switch to the adhesive ones as they're lighter and less of a hassle. Also fully customizable. I also think about how sensitive it'd be to light, and just how sensitive Lotus is to light in general cuz the good eye has to strain to do twice the work. And there are things he'd get used to, the depth perception or the light adjustment, but the balance or READING. like I imagine Lotus holds the books close to his face or has to have books where the print is larger or spaced out more. Anyway I love thinking about the way characters adapt to their disabilities or what those disabilities look like.

I can go on about the other sillies and the way their disabilities would likely impact their day to day lives. I don't see enough talk about it so I gotta be the one to yap I suppose 😌 besides I think talking about it also gives some ideas for lil one shots or art, I don't see nearly enough of it (though this is with the expectation that it's treated right and not as a "we have to help you cuz your helpless" way)

#in his defense he's a science guy not a magic guy #but also that's exactly why he shouldn't be like all up in the tomes y'know?#grimoires are often protected by magic to keep prying eyes off them usually protected through means of harmful dark magic #which we know Lotus dabbles a lot in so 😭😭#it's a semi serious fic but it is just very funny

#I thought too long about how Freyja spent a lot of her childhood in and out of the hospital and how she tried to be strong like her dad #I think even into her teens she tried to put on a brave face but like sometimes you're a 13 year old girl celebrating your birthday in #a hospital room and your friends get to spend theirs at home or somewhere else and idk #I think Freyja sometimes reminds Rurik of himself when she's clearly upset but tries to not be because she thinks it's unfair or something #I have thought a lot about Freyja feeling like a burden and do you know how devastating that was to hear???#more wholesomely though I do think Freyja bullies Rurik a lot but that's ok cuz at least his kid feels safe enough to banter and joke #no one calls Rurik chopped more than his own daughter 🥺🥺#“you're chopped and elderly this is devastating for the nursing home :(”
