My first Philharmonic concert of the 25/26 season. A fantastic Polish themed concert with Leila Josefowicz and David Robertson substituting at the last minute.

My first time at the Philharmonic this season. John Adams conducting two short 20th century pieces and two long 21st century ones. The Gabriella Smith Cello Concerto "Lost Coast" was better was better than Adams's own City Noir. And I found out you can name a row!

Seeing the Julliard Symphony at Alice Tully, just like the LED sign says. Both Falletta and the orchestra were excellent. 12 Feb 2024.

In the Philharmonic's new lobby for David Geffen Hall for a premiere of a well-performed oratorio full of banally trite dialogue. Deeply disappointing. "Emigre" by composer Aaron Zigman.

At the second of the NY Philharmonic Ligeti concerts. The Ligeti piano concerto was somewhat baffling to the mostly full house, but some like me were very intrigued. And so many new names in the David Geffen Hall.

The new hall has Wu Tsai's name plastered everywhere. Here from the orchestra to see the "Black History program." I don't love Oratorios in general, and nothing tonight changed my mind. Though it was cool to see Simon Estes. Still's Symphony #2 was much more interesting.

Back again to the Philharmonic to see Susanna Mälkki conduct Petrouchka, Ives and a new concerto by Lara. And this time showing the inverse view of Peggy of the Third Tier from house right instead.

The new David Geffen hall is going to offer us a lot of new names. And in new fonts! Tonight was Ruth Reinhardt conducting the Philharmonic in Bacewicz, Adès and Dvořák. An excellent first time in the new hall, so we get two pics tonight. 18 February 2023

At the Met for a very well sung "Peter Grimes" with a very drab, dull production. I've never seen the balcony this empty.

At the final Juilliard Focus 2020 concert in Alice Tully Hall. An excellent program of Gubaidulina, Bacewicz, Musgrave, and several other 20th century women composers.

Most seats at Alice Tully are named, but this is the first one I've ever seen that's dedicated to a woodworker.

The crowd was much bigger than this at tonight's highly entertaining N.Y. Philharmonic concert at the now David Geffen Hall. David Robertson is highly expressive and immensely fun to watch on the podium, and his The Planets was as good as one could hope. Thankfully it was a brashly entertaining, even excessive American version, not a restrained British one (see Boult). Parts of it even reminded me of Bernstein's recording.
