I don't have that many close female friendships, and book clubs are the worst. So I just thought this could be something fun to share.

Hey yall I just wanted to come on here and bring some attention to what’s happening at the detention center (really a concentration camp) Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey. There is a hunger strike going on right now to protest the abhorrent conditions within the camp (allegations of torture, maggots and other bugs in the food, etc) and protests happening outside the camp. ICE is not allowing any politicians to come in (as is their right) to see the conditions of the camp. I would urge yall to do your own research, but if you want videos of some people who are actually there, here are some tik tok accounts you can go follow: @ bethanyquilter/ @ whoiskingtrivv/ @ Status Coup News/ @ L.A. TACO
And here is a video explaining what’s going on in more detail than I provided.
With everything else going on in the world, it can be hard to keep up with stuff going on at home, but ICE is still out here terrorizing innocent people. We must keep our eyes on them, and keep fighting.
Feel free to add more sources or info to this post, should you have any.
I found this linktree here that has a master list of ways to help the detainees inside Delaney Hall: https://linktr.ee/SupportOurFamilies
Please support immigrant families by donating to the GoFundMe's below and purchasing supplies via Amazon Wishlist to support detainee visito
I have heard that protestors outside need medical supplies, but I can’t find the best way to provide that if you are not nearby.
their needs are changing rapidly, they mostly need Sudecon wipes and gas masks, last I heard, but the only way is to bring them directly there. for the most part they are asking people to join them there and hold the line, if possible. next best thing is to donate and call NJ reps to demand an end to the detention and torture!
i kinda need to know what the ending of euphoria would have been had angus not died and sam changed the ending because of that.
because i think it's important to remember that rue is supposed to be him. rue is him with his addiction when he was an addict, and he did to her what would have happened to him if he was still using: taken laced pills he used to have an addiction to from an unreliable source.
granted, as someone with a rue currently in their family, who has seen them act exactly like rue did in 2x05, he did a wonderful job showcasing the complexities of addiction, how some addicts turn towards religion to find their purpose, how rue placed her being sober on jules in the first season and even in the third thinking marriage and kids would fix everything.
and I understand why he killed her off. I know a lot of people predicted this show would end in her death from an OD. but considering my rue does watch the show, i kinda wish they'd gone with the second chance at life. or that this version is a wake up call.
i also didn't know there were kits to test for fentanyl
I’m not in the dc fandom fr but I do find it a little strange if you write about the batboys or batfam in general but just straight up exclude Duke….I wonder why 🤔

More than half of time someone saying that the teen wolf fanon is better than canon is a red flag to me becuase most fanon interpretations make scott out to be the devil to push an agenda that favors stiles as he proceeds to fuck either child abuser #1(derek) and child abuser #2(peter) who allegededly treats stiles better scott.

starfire & born sexy yesterday
So what is born sexy yesterday? This trope was introduced to the internet by essayist Pop Culture Detective as a lens through which to analyze adult women in science fiction media who are typically extremely attractive but are oblivious to both their sex appeal and to the ways of the world. This naivete is either intrinsic to their personality or a result of these characters literally being born yesterday (an example of this would be the Fifth Element’s Leeloo). To keep it short, born sexy yesterday means a character with specialized intelligence but with the experience, mind, and personality of a child in the body of (most often) a grown woman who is usually highly sexualized and objectified. It’s a trope that crops up in science fiction with an alarming frequency. Almost always, there is a man (typically ordinary in every way except for the fact that our Born Sexy Yesterday character falls for him) that guides the Born Sexy Yesterday through the ways of a world that are completely new to her. Seeming to possess an abundance of knowledge and intelligence, the Born Sexy Yesterday finds him irresistable and falls in love with him.
At a glance, Starfire’s character seems to fulfil some of the basic characteristics of this trope. As a literal alien to Earth, Koriand'r meets a handful of these requirements:
Innocent of the ways of our world?
yes.
A scene where she’s innocently naked in front of others and requires an explanation of why western culture finds nudity wrong and/or inappropriate?
That’s there, too.
However, for all this innocence surrounding Earth culture, Koriand'r is rarely seen acting like with the innocence of a child and displays deep knowledge of a variety of subjects that are both intellectual and physical. Her innocence and naivete in social situations on Earth comes not from having the mind of a child but from a cultural dissonance. Despite suffering for years in enslavement and having no formal education (or what we as an audience would define as a formal education) she intuitively understands how to operate a starship and makes a flawless escape from her captors in a ship we as an audience may assume she has never flown before as she was a mere child when she was enslaved:
This is a skill that seems to come naturally to her and belies a greater understanding of technology than her Earth counterparts could boast of.
It’s not just her technical knowledge that interests me, however, but her analytical skills as well. In New Teen Titans #33, during her search for answers about Dick’s current whereabouts, she solves the team’s problem regarding their villain of the week:
She listens to the team’s descriptions of their individual conflicts with the villain Trident (previously thought to have been dead) and comes to the correct conclusion that there are multiple people masquerading as him. The scene is cut short by Tara insulting Kory’s intelligence as she has interpreted Kory’s beauty as being her only defining trait. Much like many comics fans, Tara has mistaken Kory’s general kindness and cultural naivete for a lack of intelligence that Kory herself has never displayed. In the following scene, Kory’s emotional competence is used to smooth over the situation and make clear that she won’t tolerate being insulted:
While Kory is not formally educated, she is analytically minded, extremely emotionally competent, and maintains a set of skills that the other Titans had to cultivate later in life as her culture and the other cultures she grew up exposed to are more technologically advanced than Earth.
While she did fall in love with the first man she met on Earth, she didn’t idolize him or love him because she thought he was the most intelligent man she had met. Kory repeatedly stands up to Dick both for herself and for what she believes he himself needs. When he lashes out at her, she tempers both his and her emotions to ensure the outcome best for both of them and when he talks down to her she refuses to let it go unnoticed:
There are countless examples of the ways in which her character has been proved to be someone who doesn’t require hand holding and is equally as smart and capable (if not more) than her teammates. Her character is one that is established to have a strong sense of her own needs, wants, and personal character regardless of the situation.
In addition to her subversion of the emotional and intellectual facets of this trope, Kory also has a variety of relationships outside of her romantic relationship. Unlike the traditional Born Sexy Yesterday, Kory isn’t limited to having only one relationship and her scope of the world isn’t limited to just Dick Grayson and their romantic relationship - her friendships with Garfield Logan, Victor Stone, and Joey Wilson are as deep and meaningful as her relationship with Dick (this is referring to how Born Sexies are often only allowed to have a relationship/friendship with the male hero of their story and no other men, this is not discounting her deep friendships with both Donna Troy, Raven, and Lilith):
While Kory isn’t a perfect subversion of this trope, she is the subversion of it that stands the test of time as a character who is both deep feeling and deeply intelligent which offsets any naivete she may have in regards to Earth and the wide and varied cultures that exist on our planet. I believe that her character represents how this trope can be subverted and how it can be eliminated from the science fiction media landscape as creators work toward creating media that is inclusive of women with actual wants, desires, and personalities.
this post is an updated and heavily edited version of a post originally uploaded here.
i haven't been seeing very many people talking about Lynx Illustration (@/little-lynx) on tumblr, and those i have been seeing talking about her are defending her racism. for those unfamiliar, i recommend checking thgtwt if you have twitter. i alr talked about this a bit in a reblog, but those don't tend to get as much visibility as original posts, so i will be doing a little bit more in-depth about why everyone who is defending lynx is wrong.
people seem to be defending lynx by saying that her depictions of the hunger games characters are just meant to be book-accurate, and that is why she whitewashed lenore dove. her own statement is here:
This artwork was created as my personal interpretation of the book description, not as commentary on or rejection of the actress cast in the film adaptation. I have absolutely nothing against the actress, I think she is lovely and I understand why many people now associate the character with the movie version. As an illustrator, I always base my designs on the books themselves and not on adaptation casting choices. That approach stays the same for me regardless of the character or adaptation. That’s why you will never see my Katniss being white because of Jlaw or Haymich being blonde because of Woody.
while i completely agree that katniss, haymitch, and gale, among other characters, should've been portrayed by people of color in the film adaptations, this is not a sufficient defense of her whitewashing of lenore dove, ampert, and rue (the latter two, people seem to be forgetting about). lynx may be correct in her depictions of the seam characters, but she is specifically anti-black and this is very obvious with the way she deliberately depicts the black characters.
this is how rue is described in the first BOOK:
based on this description, you can absolutely make the argument that amandla stenberg was also miscast, due to book!rue being dark-skinned. however, lynx, who allegedly "always bases her designs on the books" drew rue like this:
this design is obviously based on amandla stenberg's rue, and not the book. so why is she going with the lighter-skinned of the two if she's always drawing the book versions? why would she not draw lenore dove and ampert as black characters when they've been long-cast as black in the film?
either she is deliberately whitewashing book!rue, or her defense that she "always draws the book versions" is a bullshit excuse to justify whitewashing lenore dove.
moving onto ampert, neither he nor beetee have a canon race in the books. their skin is described as "ashen" (which anyone regardless of race can have), as-is a typical trait likely resulting from the weather and other conditions in district 3. that being said, beetee latier has been a black character since 2013. beetee latier has been a black character for 13 years. there is absolutely no excuse to make him or his son white.
(mind you, beetee is also portrayed as a black man in the illustrated version of catching fire. if you're really that concerned about book accuracy)
side note: i'd been seeing people mention that book!beetee is described as pale, but this is not true. anyone can have ashen skin, it just means that your tone has taken on a pale gray ("ashy") appearance.
if you want to use the book-accuracy defense here, maybe ask yourself the question: "why do you default to assuming this character is white?" because, again, this character has been black for more than a decade.
here is lynx's "ampert," if you're not familiar:
back to lenore dove, there is nothing in the book that denotes her skin color, hair texture, or race. she is not seam (that we know of), she is covey. here are the only things that are used to describe lenore dove in the book:
first of all, i would like to establish that lenore dove is not a ginger. this was a really big point of discourse last summer, but let's just be done with it. she is described as having a hint of red. if suzanne collins meant for her to be a ginger, she would've said her hair is red. whitney peak's lenore dove matches this description. she has a hint of red in her hair.
additionally, as someone who has green eyes, the phrasing "dappled green" makes me think her eyes are hazel, which still does not denote lenore dove's race. she can be black and have hazel eyes. lynx's lenore dove was just a tan white girl with freckles, green eyes, and straight auburn hair. tell me, what's book accurate about that? nothing.
i am aware that lenore dove does not have a canon race in the books. that is not the point. the point is the fact that people are so eager to ignore the casting of black actors and justify it with "book accuracy" when we all know that's nonsense. white is not the default.
if you feel inclined to send me or anyone else hate for talking about how lynx is anti-black, maybe take a second to think about why people calling out whitewashing makes you upset. maybe think about why you feel it is okay to erase black characters from the hunger games. because this is something that lynx has shown a repeat pattern of doing, and it will never be okay. maybe take a second to listen to the dozens of poc on twitter that are telling you that you are wrong.
